I love Portuguese food and seafood so this place was perfect. Very fresh and delicious seafood. Big portions. They serve alcohol which is a plus.
Nice spot for a good healthy meal. Our car broke down in the area and we have a lot of fish eaters in the family. We ordered salmon, sea bass and cooked clams. The food was great. We ordered fish with cooked vegetables and they gave us a very good quality Portuguese olive oil for the veggies. The French fries and salad were good too. The service was also good. Staff was kind and patient, even with our loud kids. Overall, this place has the basics down. The food is simple and well made. Fish had salt and pepper and was cooked well. Decor is also simple and nice and everything was clean and reasonably priced. Much recommended for fish lovers.
It's not what I expected, but I'm pleasantly surprised! This place had it all cool vibes, ReSharper fish, and great service friendly staff. This place was tucked away within a neighborhood in NJ right by an industrial area. I expected it to be a dive, but found this place to be just warm and fun. Lots of choices. and nice meals. I went with the Bossa Fish sandwich, which was just delicious! Lightly fried flounder with lettuce and tomatoes picked onions and their lightly spicy sauce on fresh bun I went with a side of plantains and a thin based NE clam chowder, we went with the fried shrimp appetizer, just yummy! Wife had the crab cake sandwich she said it was good. had lots of interesting drinks to wash it down with. Fun, Fish, Fresh!
Absolutely LOVE Bossa Fish! My first visit was when I was interning for Yelp since they made the Top 100 Places to Eat in NJ list (#2) and ever since then, I've been hooked. I took my friend and sister here two separate times and found myself ordering the same meal since it was THAT good. Bossa fish has great variety! By the register, you can find different beers, sangrias, juices, etc. They also have a full bar in the back where they serve signature cocktails such as The OG Caipirinha. If you're visiting to pick up seafood to cook at home, they have it laid out fish market style which I thought was cool. And it doesn't smell fishy at all! By the full bar there is indoor seating and a nice size patio to enjoy during warmer weather. The one thing I would order every visit is their buffalo shrimp, UGH so good! The salt cod croquettes come in at a close second. I also tried their Charlie Baltimore Crab Cake sandwich and The Bossa Nova w/ flounder. Delicious! Service was great as well. Make sure you add Bossa Fish to your list to visit, especially during the summer to enjoy a drink and meal on the patio!
Randomly found this place while in the parking lot of jersey gardens outlet on my car map. Clicked on it and thought hmmm fish market I'm intrigued, and they sell food. We got there very easy to find street parking and it was less than 6 minute drive including the Christmas shopping traffic from the mall. As soon as I walked in I saw these two people eatting a giant tray of a whole fish and rice I was sold. Perfectly fried seafood just can't go wrong with that. And you better not sleep on that rice, so perfectly seasoned and while your eatting your fried fish and crumbles of batter fly into your rice just adds an amazing crunch to your rice also. Lastly the sauce let's just say we finished a 1/3 of that bottle they gave us.
So we came here on a whim. It was just a last minute look up. Its super small on a corner. This restaurant is super clean and very inviting. The guys working here were very nice. There is limited seating but it wasn't very crowded. The menu is seafood based. It's a twist on Brazilian and Portugal dishes. We started with fresh clams and salmon croquettes. They were absolutely amazing. The croquettes were fresh and had amazing flavor. For an entree we tried the crab cake sandwich I think may be the best out of everything. Super flavorful! With fries. Which were crunchy. The fried shrimp and fries also amazing. the salmon and garlic sauce over rice. It was a large portion. Super garlicky but just a little to salty. We stayed for coffee. Btw u must stay for coffee they have a beautifully balanced cortado and cappuccino. Overall if I'm in the area I will def come back to Bossa because the guys here are super accommodating and the food was great! The stand out was the crab cake sandwich! Parking on street.
Today is a sad day as we say goodbye to one of the best restaurants in town. For the past 4 years, I've been fortunate to dine here, always brought in by a chef friend who swore they never overcooked a fish. And he was right, every single time. It's hard to believe a place with food this good is closing its doors. The quality, the consistency, and the skill in every dish made it a standout. If you've eaten here, you know what a loss this is. If you hear where the chef is heading next, let me know because I'll be following.
It's funny I came here after I was waitlisted for a Yelp elite event and didn't get in. I had to check it out anyways since it got such great reviews. We were greeted right away and asked if we wanted to dine in or takeout and were told we could sit wherever we wanted. We were given menus and told about the specials which all sounded very good. I opted for the crab and sandwich and my date ordered the garlic shrimp with potatoes and a side of mixed vegetables. I read the reviews about the crab cake sandwich and how the roll was so soft. It really was and the picked onions, and avocado made the sandwich taste so yummy. My boyfriend's garlic shrimp were very tasty as well and he could t stop taking about the veggies. They were a great deal for $4, lol. The restaurant is only about 10 minutes from my job during the week and I can definitely see myself ordering there to go at lunch. Everything we had was very good.
Great fish shack near Newark Airport close to Port Elizabeth. Loved the cod croquets with the special Bossa sauce. Also great fried flounder sandwiches. Will definitely be back to try one of the dinner platters. Very casual and low key. It's even fun to watch the plains take off overhead when sitting outdoors.
This place is delicious!!!!!!!!! Service is quick and straight forward. Garlic chicken - 10/10 The sauce was perfectly seasoned and chicken perfectly cooked. Cheesesteak - 10/10 Also soooo good. I can't wait to come back and try new items!!
Found this gem on Yelp while waiting for someone at Newark Airport. It's only about a 10 min drive from the airport so this makes it a prime spot for everyone waiting to pick someone up/kill time after a delayed flight. It's a cute, unassuming seafood restaurant smack in the middle of a residential neighborhood. The interior is decorated just like you are at a coastal restaurant in New England. We were greeted immediately by who I assume was the owner. He told us to grab a seat, let us know of the specials, and then came to wait on us right after. Besides being a restaurant, you can also buy fish directly from them. Although I didn't buy any, I did look and the fish all looked great and the prices were really good compared to what I am used to seeing out in the Midwest. I ordered the Charlie Baltimore which was their special crab cake sandwich with French fries on the side. I lived in Baltimore for 5 years so I've had my fair share of amazing crab cakes, and this place fit right in there. The crab cakes were flavorful, crab heavy, and not dry. It was an excellent sandwich for the price, highly recommend. The owner insisted he give us his special sauce on the side as he firmly believed it was the best. I don't know what he put in it, but it was one of the best sauces I've had. Instantly leveled up both the sandwich and the crispy crinkle fries. My dad also ordered a cappuccino at the end of the meal and it came out beautiful, my dad also said it was just as good as it looks.
I've had dinner at Bossa fish twice with a little bit of mixed results. Siting outside is nice but unsurprisingly there is a fair amount of airplane traffic. The first time I had the salad with shrimp which I really liked the capers in the salad. I also really liked the clams in garlic and wine. The second visit i had fried shrimp and it was extremely over done. I can't remember if it was one or two of my dining companions, but they also said their shrimp was very over done. I would return again but I'd order fish or the crab cake.
Nice little gem! Friendly and fast service. The fried shrimp and honey dipping sauce was sooo good! Also have great dressing for salad the olive oil is extremely good. Place is very clean doesn't even smell of seafood when you walk in. Definitely will be back :)

Have been wanting to try Bossa Fish for a while and it did not disappoint! The fried fish here tastes so fresh. I got the Bossa Combo with fried shrimp and flounder and fries. It was phenomenal. It was very crispy as well. Only slight downside is the fries were good but not great. It lacked salt but was fine. The Bossa sauce, which is veryyyyyyy good, helped with that. I also got the crab cake burger which was WOW. So much flavor. Loved the additional of avocado into the crab cake and the bun was delightfully soft. One of my favorite burgers of all time. And just like the Bossa combo the crab cake tasted so fresh. The service was very good and it had many options to sit and enjoy your meal. Although it is cold, the outdoor space is nicely laid out and I look forward to enjoying my delicious fish there in the summer months. read more

Adorable spot. The flounder fish sandwich was good but I think less toppings and more sauce. The croquettes were delicious. These are a must get. My friends salad was HUGE. they also have a bar! Reasonably priced drinks. Nice staff. Very modest prices. Would come back in a heartbeat. read more
Simple small place. Fresh fish. Clean. Friendly. Need to order at the counter and then find a place to sit. Five tables and counter space. Wide selection of drinks (non alcoholic, beer and wine) for such a small place. Food is good. Great for a quick stop. read more

I absolutely loved this place! Thank you Yelpers!! I stayed in a hotel across from Garden Mills Mall where there was nothing exciting to eat, thanks to Yelp, I found bossa fish! Just about a 20 min walk. I was greeted prompted by the fish monger as I came through the door then was promptly seated on the patio. It was a beautiful day out to enjoy the fresh air on the adorable patio. John took my order and answered my questions, he was very personable. I ordered a Sauvignon Blanc it came immediately, in a can and I was pleasantly surprised it was very good. It was cold and just what I needed after my walk. I had the clam chowder, came with a crusty roll (I did not want but ate lol) I loved the clam chowder it's very tasty with bits of ham and pieces of clams. Also the Ipanema salad was fresh & beautiful with a large piece of salmon. The salmon was perfectly charred and juicy. Highly recommend. I'm not a potato person the only thing I prefer is bigger chunks of potato in my chowder so I can pick them out! Haha Also I put the core from my salad in the photo to show how fresh the salad is. It's not brown like the lettuce I buy at Publix. read more
If your craving seafood this is the place to be. You can purchase fresh fish or get a bite to eat. Friday night, I took the drive to get me a fish sandwich. I was greeted by friendly staff and a seafood menu that overwhelmed me. Decided on the big poppa (flounder) and salmon burger. The sandwiches were very tasty. Beware the bossa sauce is addictive. Pair one of the white wines with your meal. read more
My goodness, this place was absolutely delicious. Wish it was on my radar earlier. The weather has gotten warmer, and we were craving fried seafood platters and some ice cold sangria and this place did not disappoint. Food came out within minutes of sitting down. We got the salt cod croquettes, the crab cake, fried flounder and chips, and a pitcher of passion fruit sangria to wash it all down. Everything was amazing. The seafood was all nicely fried, so crispy, but not at all heavy or oily. Highly recommend the salt cod croquettes, which were perfectly seasoned, and so light and fluffy, despite being fried. The sangria was also fantastic, perfect for a warm day eating at the outside patio. We went on a late Sunday afternoon, and were seated immediately. No parking though so you have to find street parking. Absolutely one of my favorite NJ restaurants, and looking forward to our next visit. read more

What a gem we have discovered in Elizabeth! Looks like a resto you would find in Asbury Park with a cute beach vibe going on minus the crowds and wait. Family owned restaurant and you could feel their warmth the moment you step in. Walked in on an early Sat and had a wonderful meal. We are new parents and having recently got the courage to bring our baby around. Dining space is not huge but we had more than enough room for her. They also have some outdoor space but we were there during the heat wave. They have a liquor license with some craft beer in cans and many varieties of wine in cans. Ordered salted cod croquettes (definitely get these), octopus salad (daily special) and fried porgy with tomato rice (daily special). Our total with 2 alcoholic drinks was $60 which is not bad for a seafood feast. Had leftovers for a meal the next day as well. Daily specials posted on social media so be sure to follow them. We will be back many more times with baby in tow! read more

Discovered this lil gem in the star ledger n thought we'd try it on a hot Saturday evening. It's a small restaurant w a fish market. Few indoor seats n more outdoor seats. Glad to have gotten the indoor seats as it was a very hot day. Started out w the ipanema salad and salt cod croquettes. The salad was so refreshing w avocados, romaine lettuce, capers n palmettos w extra virgin oil. And it was generous portions more than enough for 2. Loved the salt cod croquettes. And we had the grilled branzino w bossa potatoes and bacalhaua a casa w rice for our entrees. They were so delicious n generous portions and we enjoyed every bit of it. Had plenty of leftovers to take home. The bossa potatoes were so good. The owner was very attentive n checked on customers. Will certainly come back again. Thanks again for a great Saturday dinner. read more
Cuisine: 9 Service: 8 Decor: 7 Value: 9 Overall: 9 Happen to be in the area and decided to pop into the restaurant for a snack. Noticed 5 stars rating, but only 29 reviews. Not expecting necessarily a 5 star experience, but what a surprise! First of all, walk in and you'll find fish and shellfish on ice. Then, one side is a counter to order food, with seating all around. Clean and relaxed atmosphere, with also some outdoor seating. The person taking our order at the counter and delivering to our table was very friendly. He gave us good explanations and food recommendations. We took his advice and ordered a few different apps to try. Flavors of the restaurant are Portuguese and Brazilian, with focus on seafood clearly. However, our dishes reflected a little bit of seafood from all over the world. Not a bad thing, just giving you a more accurate idea. Anyway, the Shrimp in Garlic Sauce was very good, with a touch of buffalo wing like sauce adding lots of garlic. Clams in White Wine Sauce took it up a notch and was heaven to dip bread in, albeit a tiny bit salty. Lastly, the Salt Cod Croquettes reminded me of the quality I had experienced in Spain. Wow! This is certainly out of the way for me, but no doubt in my mind that I'll be back as soon as possible to try more seafood with a larger group. I will share this discovery with all my friends and wish they find success. read more

We came in on an early Sunday afternoon. We saw the five star review on multiple sites and thought we should definitely check it out. Bossa Fish did not disappoint. There's no false hype about this place- this place delivered on all levels. We were greeted warmly by the young lady at the ordering register. She was so sweet & patient as she took our long order since we were a family group and it was our first time there. We often order multiple apps & staples when visiting a restaurant for the first time, so we got a little bit of everything. Their calamari was fresh, crisp and well seasoned, their fried shrimp was snappy and tasty. Their fish Francese was delicious. Everything was served hot, which was very nice. Their fried plantains were perfectly fried & plump, a refreshing sight since so many places often serve them too oily or mis-shapen. The owner or manager was a lovely host and made sure we always had everything we needed. We enjoyed our meal outside in their patio seating area surrounded by beautiful plants, colorful umbrellas and a great playlist. The cold beer, delicious fish dishes and fantastic vibes were the perfect fall afternoon for our family. I'm so happy we stopped here during our trip through NJ. In a time where customers are often under served and under appreciated, this places delivers on all cylinders. They deserve all the stars they get. Yes to Bossa Fish, all the way. read more

This is a little establishment there are only a few tables inside but they do have outside seating. We ordered c an cake sandwich, grilled salmon, salad, clam chowder soup. The crab cakes had good flavor and the side was slightly spicy but complemented well. The grilled salmon was really good and the boiled potatoes worked nicely. The soup had a different base than typical clam chowder. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad. The waitress seemed to forget about us. It took a long time to get the check but she was really nice. read more
Ordered: Water (~$1.25) Bossa Combo - Shrimp & Flounder (~$22): served with fries Passionfruit Mojito (~$12) Aya's take: I've heard great things about Bossa Fish particularly after it made the Top 100 Yelp list! Since I was in the area, I figured now was my chance to try them out. I decided to dine in and was asked if I wanted water to which I replied yes. I had no idea I was going to be charged for water as it is just a common, typical offering when dining in. While ordering, my waiter mentioned the Passionfruit Mojito as a new drink they added to their menu and said it was worth a try. I decided to listen to his recommendation and it was definitely good but 1) it was such a small quantity and 2) it was served in a plastic cup which I've never been served a cocktail in before. Both of these were already making this a disappointing experience. Luckily, the Bossa Combo saved the day. The Shrimp & Flounder were both well-seasoned, fresh, and filling. The Fries were crinkle-cut, crispy, and hot. The 2 sauces, Bossa Sauce & tartar sauce, paired well with the seafood and fries. Overall, I enjoyed the entree, I'd skip the mojito, and would prefer takeout to avoid additional fees. read more

One of the most outstanding restaurants I've ever been to. I ate here yesterday morning with my girlfriend and this place is clean, the staff is very friendly and the service is amazing, but more importantly the food is 5 stars. We started off with the salt cod croquettes and a pitcher of delicious home made sangria. As for our entrees we ordered the flounder fish and chips and the Charlie Baltimore crab cake sandwich. Their bossa sauce is creamy and spicy and goes good with anything that you put it on so you already know I had to order extra sauce. The owner was very nice and checked up on us a few times and even offered us a coffee on the way out. If you are looking for a phenomenal seafood restaurant with a nice ambiance and outdoor seating then this is the place to go, please check it out. read more
Bossa fish is on the rise! The service is was amazing, Phil and Gabriel were an honor to be serviced by, super nice guys. We had the calamari to start. It was crispy, seasoned to perfection and absolutely amazing. Some calamari can be rubbery and bland this was not that! The caipirinha was soooo refreshing. This is my go-to summer drink but I had the pleasure to get it in spring at Bossa fish, I recommend 10/10. The crab cake and fish sandwich were also 10/10. I'm happy I got to experience this service. I can't wait until the patio opens in the summer so I can have oysters and beers! 5/5 stars read more

Really had no expectations of the place and was pleasantly surprised: Place- clean, good use of the triangle shaped property. Outside seating area and inside areas for tables and counter spaces around the fish display. The servers and cashier were all friendly. Portuguese family. They had fresh and frozen fish for sale too along with seasonings/beer/wine etc which is always nice. Food- crab cake sandwich was nice. Soft/crunch/sweet/tangy. Love me some pickled onions. Came with plain kettle chips. The bossanova fish sandwich with whiting was nice too the sauce on top was real good. Local JC beer, happy hour specials, fancy sparkling waters and non-alcoholic drinks as well. Even left buying some fish for my mother in law and cookies to go. Noticed the Portuguese egg custards on the way out but would love to try that and a few other things on the menu next time. read more

Absolute winner. First of all the place looks and smells so good. It's clean. The people are friendly. Portions are generous. Ok, we started with the Ipenema Salad. It has Hearts of Palm, Avocado and capers. Just olive oil and salt and pepper. So refreshing. We ordered the Garlic Salmon and the Red Snapper Special. Both fish were so tender and well cooked. Bossa Fish is a hidden gem! The fish was delicious. We ordered grilled red snapper and a crab cake sandwich, the fish was grilled to perfections and the crab cake was spicy and delicious. Perfect spot! We were on a long drive down 95 and looking for a quick place to duck into for lunch. We found this gem; a casual little seafood market & eatery - bright, clean with beautiful decor; a charming family-run business. The food was good. We ended up getting the clams with white wine sauce, shrimp in garlic, a house salad with mashed avocado, the Upstream salmon burger and the Port Daddy fish sandwich. The service was attentive & cheerful - the staff is just lovely. read more

This was definitely a unique lunch adventure. My chum and I decided to meet up here for a midday repast this past Saturday. She at least has been to nearby Jersey Gardens, but my experience in this section of Elizabeth is pretty limited, especially now that I can locate Ikea mac and cheese much closer to me in Paramus. I wouldn't classify this necessarily as a terrible neighborhood but it's definitely industrial and not the best; I don't think I'd have a ton of fun frolicking around here at night - the lunch idea was the right one. The parking situation is based on timing/luck on nearby streets, but thankfully I secured a spot right next to a collection of broken dryers on the sidewalk about half a block away. Go me. The layout of Bossa Fish is fascinating. It's right on a narrow corner, so it's got almost a Flatiron feel to it, with tons of windows so on a sunny day (like ours) the lighting is amazing. I came in by the fish market area in the back, but was immediately directed by friendly staff to a giant laminated menu, seating toward the front/Flatiron section (that's just what I'm going to call it going forward), as well as a prominently displayed news article on the wall boasting a top NJ dish involving catfish, which I considered but ultimately declined because it seemed too adventurous for my palate on this particular day. Our orders were taken promptly by the waiter upon seating. We both opted for a bit of wine (I went with the Beach Juice Rose), which as you can sort of see in the attached photo, came in a can. I know - the adventure never stopped. Pretty tasty though. We ordered the shrimp with garlic sauce app to split, and I went with the fried salmon with garlic sauce from the specialty section as my entrée. It was pretty tasty though I felt like the rice really dominated the dish; in hindsight, I would have opted for a different side, perhaps the Spanish potatoes. The salmon was very fresh and tasty, and I was surprised at how subtle the garlic sauce was (not a complaint) - I'm probably unfairly comping it with the garlic sauce you'd encounter at a Chinese takeout place. The shrimp app was as advertised, and was probably my favorite part of the meal. We also split three chocolate chip cookies at the end, which were a pleasant palate cleanser. For what you're getting, the prices to me were pretty reasonable (it's basically fresh, high-end seafood in the low $20s), and the outside seating in front of the Flatiron section looked like a fun time in warmer weather. I'd come back but I'd probably opt for something else as my main dish, perhaps a scrumptious flounder. Worth a lunchtime trip for sure. read more
