We were up visiting a friend that recently moved to Sherill's Ford and he took us here for lunch. We loved it! I ordered a BBQ sandwich, corn nuggets and mac and cheese. My husband got a BBQ plate with 2 sides. We shared their *famous* banana pudding for dessert and it was fantastic. The BBQ wasn't too dry and they have 6 different sauces on the table to try along with the meats. The bun on my sandwich was huge and really dense so I actually just pulled the bread off to better enjoy the BBQ and slaw inside. The burgers and other sandwiches sounded good too! When I was here a year ago, I thought it was good but not great. This time, I realized why it's so popular. The atmosphere is awesome. It's a small place but that adds to the charm. The staff is also incredibly friendly. However, I sense if you start any stuff they will go right back at you (verbally, not physically). The half chicken is strong, the French fries are well above average, and the Mac n Cheese is superb. Definitely recommended. And the name is pretty freaking cool too. Nobody ever talks about the name. It deserves way more credit. If you don't show up here, then the road better be shut down tighter than a tick's ass! read more

I had the brisket burger that had some fried onion on it, bbq (not too much, just right) I added cheese. Well this certainly didn't disappoint. My husband got the brisket sandwich. Well, it's a nice little neighborhood place, the chopped barbecue pork has absolutely no smoky flavor to it. My guess is that they use gas instead of real wood to smoke the bbq. There are several different kinds of sauces on the table to give the pork some flavor. Otherwise, nothing special. Service was good. read more

Took a friend to my nearest BBQ PIT for lunch. Boss Hog's I'm Sherrills Ford is an everyman joint. Lots of labor stops through here for lunch which tells me two things. It's good food, consistent, and the price is right. This is the perfect place for a workday lunch, quick bite traveling Hwy 150, or to get takeout for the family when everyone wants something different. They have all flavors of BBQ, catfish, burger, cheesesteaks, and lots of sides to choose from. Here are my three things: 1) BBQ sandwich comes with a unique spread of catsup, onions, and pickles I think. Worked for me! 2) Ribs were ok fall of the bone but like they were cooked slow and low minus the smoke. 3) Sides were all good to me. Me, my brother, and my dad got off work looking for some good local barbecue and ended up finding the best spot around. The food was amazing, but what really made it stand out was how friendly everyone was. The owner even came out to talk with us, and he was super cool and down to earth. I would give them five stars. But it's very inconvenient that you cant order your food and then pick it up. They say it's because of so many people not showing up and sticking them with the order. Why cant they make you prepay and another thing im in a wheelchair and its hard to get in there rude they wont offer to help and told me to take my drink outside or leave one day because i wanted to place a go order. Drive by this place several times a week and have stopped for lunch before and actually that was fairly good and I left a review shortly thereafter. I have since deleted that review because today's experience was a disaster and should not be inflicted on anyone. Decided I was going to get take out and take it home so I could dine in peace. Placed an order for a BBQ Plate and two sides and paid for them and took a seat over by the door. 15 minutes comes and goes and still nothing. I'm hungry and I had things I needed to do at home so at this time I cut my losses and left without my order. Drove to another restaurant in the area where I did get seated and called the store back. The young lady who answered the phone said " well, your order is ready now and you can get it" BBQ is a bit different than ordered a burger because burger are generally not made ahead of time and are made to order. The BBQ would probably have been smoked overnight and as such was fully cooked except for the presentation. By that, the meat would have been cooked and chopped to the proper consistency. Since BBQ beans are cooked for a very long time, they too are not cooked to order. At this time, the young lady indicated that she did not see my problem because the order was ready for pickup. Told her I probably would not be a repeat customer and she said that was fine with her and she was disinviting me from the Restuarant. Sad because the time I did dine here, the food was pretty good but a customer should not have to put up with this lack of service. read more

We have had takeout here twice, and both times the food was delicious. I didn't care for their Cole slaw much but the brisket was awesome!

The dining room is very small and there were no seats available at 12:30 pm - lunch rush. The place was very busy which I took as a positive sign. I ordered two combination plates to go and a $4 half gallon of tea to eat in the truck. The Mac and cheese and slaw were very good. Ribs were meaty but dry. The BBQ pork had a peculiar taste that wasn't pleasant. The chicken was the best of the three meats we tried but not a lot of flavor. The bbq sauce provided was ketchup based and tasted store bought though they sell bottles of the sauce with their name on it. Not a fan but I much prefer vinegar based sauce so I may not be the best judge. I asked for a small cup of ice and was told "we don't do that" by the young lady behind the counter. So I spent nearly $40 including a generous tip and couldn't get a cup of ice? Won't ever see me there again. read more

Only reason this place gets a star is so I can tell everyone how piss poor their service is! I stopped by hoping for a hot dog to go at 7:55....5 mins before closing. I walk in and Samantha said per her boss they are closed...although it wasn't 8:00. Oh we are out of food! Really now you're gonna lie straight to my face?!? I frequent this place. not sure how long it's been here but the second owner is said to have worked for and bought it from the first. legend has it that Boss Hog has been a local fixture since Moses, tired of manna, parted Lake Norman looking for a mid-afternoon nosh and maybe hush puppies... I rolled in to get some lunch and wound up outside talking with one of the locals about the business and owners and such and how the lot was fairly busy with people coming and going and everyone was parking in the least annoying way possible and generally trying not be tools. really considerate customers except for being mostly un-masked. eventually got around to getting inside and ordering lunch; they've got a dozen types of dinner on the board and twice as many sandwiches to choose from so pick a column and just go with whatever the cashier suggests, it's easier that way and better for all concerned. really ;-) ...Boss Hog BBQ burger is big and comes dressed up with pulled porks, slaws, pickles, and a real ring of battered onion accompanied by a generous pile o' crinkle-cut fries (probably should come with a doctor's warning too but like the six-feet-and-a-mask-thing, nobody'd pay it any mind.) anyway, it took almost an hour to get across town (yea traffic!) so lunch was not so hot but still quite good when I got home: nicely balanced smokey flavor, neither meat was over-done - could have used a little hot-n-sweet red sauce on the porks but that's just me - slaw and pickles complimented the meats without trying to take over and the onion ring just added to the fun. yea onion! if you stay west of the lake or have a helicopter it's totally whirlable. read more

Drive 15 min West and go to any other BBQ place. We waited 45 minutes for 2 meals. I had the pulled chicken dinner with mac and cheese and coleslaw and my husband had pulled pork sandwich with hush puppies. The pulled chicken was flavorless and was clearly boiled. I smashed it with my fork and it oozed water. It also had a piece of bone (seen in the photo by my fork). No seasoning at all. The coleslaw was nothing special and the mac and cheese was similar to Stouffers frozen mac and cheese. My husbands pulled pork was flavorless and def did not taste smoked. The hush puppies were the same as every restaurant. I'd rather get pulled pork at Cookout next time I get BBQ. Really disappointed given all the reviews. We will not go back. read more

Nice atmosphere although I will say I have seen some rude customers usually over something as simple as being asked to take their cups back outside because they are not permitted. I mean c'mon folks they have signs posted and have had them for a year maybe longer. They are on both doors and another inside. Yummy, yummy, yummy! Great BBQ in a "hole in the wall" location. I know there are some 'cue purists who won't go to a "chain". You folks would love this place! I met some friends here for lunch and we were all very pleased. I had the sliced BBQ platter, which came on one of those three-section sytrofoam plates. The two smaller sections contained baked beans (which didn't seem home made but were still delicious) and a spicy slaw which had a home made texture and taste. The main course was a nicely sliced BBQ beef with a tangy and zesty sauce poured over it. These were accompanied by three fried cornbread sticks. I've never seen anything like this before and if I was headed home to a fridge, I might have gotten a bunch of them to go! The friends I met had the chopped BBQ platter, which was the same deal except that the meat was chopped up into very small pieces and already mixed with their tangy sauce. All three friends said that it was excellent! There's a soda fountain (Pepsi products) and a big urn of sweet tea. Not too sweet. With ice and a piece of lemon, it did not need extra sugar or extra water. It was simply excellent. They did have some desserts, including cherry and apple turnovers as well as chocolate cake. One cherry turnover was consumed and enjoyed. Boss Hog is a little hard to find - 7 miles west of I-77 over a few Lake Norman causeways and past intersections, but there it is. The picture I posted should help. It's a very small cinder block place with big windows and only a few tables inside. Not much parking, but the isolated location works against it being really crowded. From my seat, I could see into the kitchen area. It was very clean and organized. The girls working the place were very pleasant and welcoming. One overhead TV was tuned in to the Weather Channel. Would I come here again? If I am in the area, absolutely! Excellent! read more

Great BBQ! We got corn fritters, hush puppies, pulled pork sandwiches and fries and everything was so good! I do wish they had more options on bbq sauce.
