I'm not much of a coffee person, but most coffee shops have more to offer than just freshly brewed fresh ground coffee. And then some!
I'm currently on a matcha green tea latte phase and I've had the chance to try them from a few places - a few Starbucks spots (in the US) included. One of them gave me bad runs, so I kinda cleared off Starbucks for a minute...
I found myself running a few errands in the nearby CSI mall and had this sudden urge for the drink - just not from Starbucks. Fam suggested to check this place out as they might have it! Luckily, they did!
They also had Spanish sardine pasta. Although I was full from a meal not even a couple of hours prior, I was way too curious and had to try it. Staff was apologetic as the bread it normally comes with wasn't available but will sub it with something just as good. "No prob!"
As I waited for my goodies, I got the chance to learn about the franchise. Their beans come from different regions of the Philippines which, I think, is cool! That's some Pinoy pride right there. Big Bro even got all the different kinds of beans to bring back to as pasalubong to someone we know who prefers her brewed coffee from freshly ground beans. (The verdict on that is still out.) I also noticed an outdoor patio area for vapers and smokers alike. This is a pretty cool hangout place!
MATCHA GREEN TEA: Ice blended. What else is there to say about this drink? It IS refreshing and hit the spot most especially on a hot humid day. I also enjoyed the subtle sweetness that came with it which elevated the flavor of the matcha green tea. If you're an avid coffee drinker and feel like a change, I'd recommend this. If you're not a coffee drinker (like yours truly) I'd still recommend this - especially on a hot and humid day!
SPANISH SARDINE PASTA: I've had many different kinds of pasta dishes, but this would be a first for me. It's cooked aglio olio style with added olives and topped with the Spanish sardines. I expected it to be too fishy and/or too salty but there was a surprising balance of both. The pasta was cooked one level above al dente. The bread served as a good palate cleanser. It's a good savory dish - a far cry and welcoming change to the normal Pinoy spaghetti most are used to. Delicious!
FOOD: 5. So with the iced blended matcha green tea.
SERVICE: 5. Drinks and food came out quickly. Service with a smile!
VALUE: 5. Some may think that it's pricey, but I feel it's fair considering where the beans are coming from.
PARKING: Private lot. Not an issue.
OVERALL: 5.
I'm definitely keeping them on my radar and making multiple stops in the future - if only for the combo drink+food I had on this stop. So if you're a Starbucks fiend and would like to try something different, Bo's Coffee might just be the place! read more
