Borton Petrini willfully took thousands of dollars from an elderly person who was the subject of a conservatorship trial. Those funds were for legal fees to defend a third party who was fighting claims of elder abuse and undue influence. They took this money when the capacity of this individual to make responsible financial decisions was in question. Even after this individual was administered and failed multiple Mini-Cog examinations and was prescribed dementia medication did BP take his money. They even took a sizable payment AFTER a neuropsychologist confirmed the lack of capacity to be making financial decisions. BP eventually stopped taking this money directly and the funds ended up being be stolen from the proposed conservatee and ultimately paid to them via this third party whom they knew did not have the financial resources to pay them. They have ignored demands to make the situation right and will now ultimately answer for their actions in court. I will find every online resource on this planet to share this information with who might consider trusting Borton-Petrini. Please consider seeking legal counsel elsewhere. Particularly if this is for an elderly loved one. These folks will have their hands full in the near future. read more

I hired Tami Cummins as my divorce attorney. She started off strong and sounded great, but then all but disappeared. She told my ex and I that for an extra fee she would finalize divorce for us to save time and money of getting a 2nd attorney involved. She took the large sum of money and now 3 months later, hasn't solved anything and claims the money is gone. She not only wants a big balance paid off, but more money put into the account. She told me that my case was on hold until I paid her. She has gone through thousands of dollars and I'm no closer to being divorced. She did decent on my family court hearing, but that's about all. read more

Do not hire. They will just take your money. I used them for my divorce and Ms. Cummins could not have cared less that my ex was abusive and she failed to obtain the amount of child support he was supposed to pay. Ultimately the lawyer signed orders written by opposing counsel that were incorrect! Put down two 6k retainers and when I had to let her go even though my ex was taking me to trial. BP invoiced me $6700 AFTER I let them go and then got a default judgment when I couldn't pay them. In 3 years they upped the bill to $13k - AWFUL - THE WORST - WILL NOT CARE WHAT HAPPENS TO YOU OR IF THEY REPREESNTRED YOU FAIRLY. read more

I was VERY disappointed with the service I got from Jessica Dorn. The problem is, you don't know what you're going to get until it's too late. Jessica was VERY slow to respond to my emails, and often neglected to answer my questions. Many times, it took several emails before I got a reply. In the end, she neglected one very important detail, and instead of fixing it, she offered me a way to "work around" the issue that was unresolved. After that, she simply took the cowards way out, and just ignored my emails, even when I told her how important it was to my family. The day I called to set up my consultation with John J. Hollenback and spoke to the very kind and professional receptionist I thought that my prayers had been answered. She inquired about my case and was very caring and was sure to let me know what to bring and what to expect and I thought I had found the right lawyer. Plus the website is a confidence booster because the company has been around for thirty plus years and I'm sure there are other lawyers within the company with competence. Anyways I arrived for my consult and John J. Hollandback, my potential lawyer that I was "interviewing" began asking me questions about my case. I told him some financial stipulations to my case and he accused me to being all about money. Being a single mom going through a custody battle that has been being drug out for 9 months now , there are financial needs from the other party. It continued with John being unable to answer almost any of my family law questions. He cut me off almost every time I opened my mouth and said I needed to "slow down" and that he couldn't "keep up" with me. The last straw was when he got on his computer and was looking up legal information so that he could answer some of my questions. I understand that the laws change and lawyers need to brush up here and there but he was wasting my time on my dollar while I was bearing my heart and soul literally and literally crying. At that point I had had it and I told him "I don't mean to be rude by this but I can not imagine having you as my lawyer, are you seriously looking up information right now?" And he said "Every good lawyer does this" I was only in his office for 10-15 min tops and I begged for my money back. I don't think he deserved a dime and I hope nobody wastes a minute of their time there in the future. I highly recommend this Law Office. My family trust was being sued over a fire that happened on my parents property. When I called Borton and Petrini the receptionist Tim I believe was very professional and after explaining my situation he knew exactly which lawyer in their office to send me. He was able to schedule an appointment with Sarah Ornales I believe within a few days. We sat down and I explained all the circumstances and believe me their was a lot to this story I won't bore you with. Anyways Sarah listened to my case and looked over the documents I had. Sarah gave us some straight forward Information and told us she could help us. She was very personable and my wife and I felt like we had a friend representing us. If I could give John J. Hollenback of Modesto Barton and Petrini negative stars, I would. This law firm is a joke and showed nothing but total disorganization and misrepresentation! I hired them for my ongoing divorce. I hired them 3 months before my next settlement conference; I had already settled all underlying issues in my case except support. When I hired him, I told him that I needed someone to represent me in trial and that we weren't going to play that "hocus pocus game of, now you see your retainer and now you don't" by wasting time dancing with the other attorney! I told him that I had played that game before and if that was his M.O. then he should not take this case. I instructed him to make contact with the opposing attorney prior to the next court date (in 3 months) and that if nothing could be resolved prior to that, then he was to set a trial date. Hallenback not only didn't make any contact with the opposing attorney prior the hearing, but also failed to set the trial date at the next court hearing and instead put the next hearing off for another 3 more months. I sent emails to explain my extreme dissatisfaction, asked for specific documents and asked to be copied on correspondences; the emails went unanswered. He continued to respond to demands from opposition tardily and show up for a boondoggle meeting and the next court hearing late, all the while billing overly exonerate fees including $350 per hour for travel which he told me he would not do when I hired him. At the next hearing, (3 months later), he showed up to court over 30 minutes late for court. He then went into a closed room with the opposing attorney to confer without even communicating with me first. Upon my entrance into the meeting, the apposing attorney informed me that they had decided to re-structure part of the retirement. The restructuring was not in my favor and was had never been a point of contention or discussion prior. He then went on to thank my representative, Hollenback, for bringing it to his attention. The attorneys then went on to discuss how expensive it would be to go to trial and put off the next hearing for another 2 months. That is when I fired John J. Hollenback of BARTON PETRINI for malpractice; yes hindsight would have dictated to have done it much sooner. At this point he had burned through $7650 and now has the nerve to bill me for another $1700+. I am now worse off than when I hired them and have spent a third of my annual wages to do get there! The lack of customer service, communication and professionalism with this firm is overwhelming! read more
