I love coming to this restaurant. But this time traveling to Lancaster, I was sad to find out that…read morethey relocated to another spot not too far away from the old location. LOCATION: This new location sits on the second floor of a building. Steps are pretty narrow, so I can't imagine the elderly being able to climb a flight and a half of steps to enjoy such delicacies. So the new location is absolutely beautiful and more fancy than their old location. I love the ambiance. I went there on a Saturday at approximately 4:00 p.m. and there was Zero clientele. It seems like this place may have lost a lot of customers due to the location being on the second floor, but I could be wrong. I'll be honest, very clean, well lit with many slits of skyline above. I love the decor it still reminds me of Old San Juan, along with the Spanish music playing in the background. FOOD: amazing as always, even though I was struggling because they removed one of my favorite dishes from the menu, which was ropa Vieja. You get a lot of food on your plate, and all of the dishes are very flavorful and cook to order. CUSTOMER SERVICE: I love how attentive the staff were even though we were the only ones in the place. The waitress is very knowledgeable about the dishes and extremely accommodating. I wanted something simple to drink like a lemonade, and they made me some from scratch, so I was so thankful. I would definitely recommend coming to this place if you're looking for authentic San Juan dishes

Monfongo, bifongo, trifongo . . . Since it was our first time in, we tried a lot of different items. The Monfongo with chicharones de pollo was excellent. The pastillilo de carne was good. The papas locas (with carne) was really good. It was so big, we couldn't finish it. We ordered it for an appetizer but it really could be an entree. The arroz con gondules was good. It could have had a little more flavor, but it was fine. I ordered a side of the trifongo since only the monfongo came with the entrees. I really liked their trifongo. Hubby got the pina colada frappe and it was very good, very fresh. Definitely a good place to visit. Street parking. Service was a little scattered and it took a lot longer for our food than expected. Lots of families and lots of people taking out, in addition to almost packed tables. Go, enjoy the Boricua food and feel like you're on an island. :)

The chicken was pretty good. I think everything would've been better either in the store or just hotter. (The fries weren't warm). We will definitely be trying this place again.

Counter style eatery. The woman who served me was so sweet and walked me through all the options they had for the day. There were about 3 customers ahead of me getting their "usual" which was a good sign. The portions are pretty generous! I got the arroz con gandules, pernil, and biste for $16. PERFECTION! The tournament is again next year so I know where I will be coming to eat.

Note that if you aren't familiar with the location, you might miss it as there's no major signs from the road. But it's inside the same complex of a lightbulb store and hair salon, with plenty of parking! Though a small restaurant front, it's kept very clean with a humble but inviting ambiance. Food is almost served cafeteria style for their staples: arroz con guandules, pernil, carnitas, plantains, etc. Their deep fried foods (e.g. empanadas, yuca frita, etc) are in a little heater fridge. I've tried their weekend specials like chivo (goat stew), but my absolute favorite dish to get is the tres golpe! This they made fresh upon order! Though tres golpe is commonly had for breakfast, I love having it any time of the day given that it's savory and plentiful in portion! It includes two pieces of fried cheese, fried salami, fried egg, and the best mangu (mashed plantains) I've ever had! Pair it with a freshly made cup of morir soñando? You're set. This is my favorite Dominican spot and I highly recommend it! They do well with ordering for pickup and food keeps well even when you order delivery! Though my brother-in-law is Puerto Rican and not Dominican, he will sometimes crave food from the Caribbean. He argues this spot has food that is probably the closest thing you can get to eating directly on the island itself! Staff were very kind and, as a previous reviewer pointed out, fluent in both English and Spanish. When we visited in-person, the restaurant was clearly a popular spot for folks in the community to pick up food to-go for lunch! I highly recommend you try this place out and support this local business!
