We used soil from Boring Bark to fill all of our raised beds, planters, grow bags, and pots this year. We ended up hauling 6 truck loads to get it all done. We've also used them for gravel and bark in the past. So far we've been happy with all our purchases. Our veggies, flowers, trees and shrubs are thriving. Boring Bark is open seven days a week: from 8 to 5 Monday through Saturday, and 9 to 3 on Sunday. They've got everything you need for bark, wood chips, soil, compost, mulch, rock, sand, pavers, and they also have plants and seasonal decor. I am not sure how prices compare with elsewhere but their price list is on their website. A nice amenity is that they have free trailer use with a purchase of bark soil or rock pending availability. Of course they also deliver. It's nice to support a family owned business of this type. They've been open at this location since the 1970s. Besides that, it is incredibly charming that this location has a coffee shop! It used to be operated as Cat's Moon and now it appears to be Boring Bean. Either way, the interior smells absolutely delicious with coffee and pastries. And it's lovely to enjoy your coffee amongst the nursery trees and flowers. read more

I have been a customer of Boring Bark for years, purchasing hundreds of dollars of bark, cedar chips, compost and soil every year for our large yard and gardens. We won't be a customer again. Last year we purchased enough 7-way soil to fill five new above ground garden beds. The soil turned out to be a poor mix and possibly contaminated. I called and spoke to an owner at Boring Bark. I asked her to come look at what they sold me when my crops wouldn't grow and the soil turned to concrete after spring rains. I set two different appointments with her and she no-showed on both. All root crops failed, presumably because the roots couldn't expand, maybe compounded by poor soil nutrition or contamination, as there was poor plant health during all stages of development. The new garden beds produced poorly while my existing garden beds (without the new soil) performed beautifully. This isn't the first time I purchased poor soil or compost from Boring Bark, it was just the worst. I can forgive a mistake but I was told they don't test any of the soil they buy (from any construction company offering to sell dirt), they self-mix, and the owner showed how much she doesn't care about her customers by not showing up and not calling on both occasions when she no-showed. She didn't offer to replace the soil or suggest any other remedy such as compost to improve drainage. I spent over $400 dollars on their soil. This is a business that cares only about profits and is willing to sell low quality products to customers. The pictures of the plants and a video of the hard as rock soil won't upload. I have 30 years of gardening experience - this wasn't a case of not knowing the ropes. Buyer beware when doing business with them! read more

bought 24 yards of gravel and need it spread they said they would spread the gravel they did not spead the gravel and put it in a pile and said o well I will never buy from them again they are a very unprofessional business and they don't care about their customers. All they care about is taking your money once they have it if you have any problems. they basically they tell you to get screwed. We used to have prestine wetlands, untouched by humans for over a decade, teeming with life (including endangered species).... Until we made the mistake of getting a couple of yards of fine sand from Boring Bark resulting in a devistating environmental spill. When adding the fine sand from Boring Bark, there was a large amount of white froth given off which covered the wetlands. A slight oil slick too. The day after adding the fine sand we started to get 2-4 dead aquatic animals floating to the surface every day. I had never seen a single dead fish prior to adding this sand. I have called numerous times to find out what was in the sand, so I would better know how to deal with the toxins. The manager at Boring bark said they just resell the sand directly from the supplier, without cleaning it or doing any form of toxicology report. They also said the supplier dredges the sand up from somewhere and does not clean it or do any quality check on the product. I asked multiple times for a toxicology report on their sand and they have yet to provide it. They have now stopped returning my calls. This is neglegence in their supply chain which is yet to be rectified. They did not offer any help in providing information as to what kind of toxins are in their product, or any help dealing with the cleanup arising from the environmental spill from using their product. Our wetlands that were teeming with life is quickly diminishing, we have far fewer fish, and I am getting used to the process of disposing of floating dead fish every day. I am greatly concerned, not only of the environmental impact that Boring bark has had on our wetlands, but also what other impact could thos sand have if it was also sold to other people. If this is killing marine wildlife then surely it would also be hazardous to some innocent infants plating in a sand box with the same toxic sand. A report has been made with the EPA Fwd: NRC#1342952. Please refer to this if you have any health issues after using any of the products from Boring Bark. I wish businesses were more accountable for their actions and realize the drastic impact this can have on the environment and people's lives. I would avoid using boring bark sand for your sandpit/landscaping unless you want your child to end up like these fish. read more

I love the product we get from Boring and the delivery guys are amazing. What we hate is dealing with the front desk people. We need to have a flat-bed truck to deliver, because it's a smaller truck with a liftgate that allows the soil to be dumped where ever (instead of having to shovel it out of the back). But the ladies don't seem to understand that and they always want to know why we want it (why do they need to know that?). One time, they sent the wrong truck and had to turn around, reload it at their yard, and bring it back in the flatbed. We've heard them call it a "small truck," but if it's not a flat-bed with a liftgate, it won't work for us. I think management needs to have the front desk people tour the truck yard so they understand the difference and what customers are asking for. read more

There was this little Building that look like a nursery. To the right was lots of gravel and rock and bark. But when we walked inside where immediately greeted by the owners who took us around to look at everything. and explained the whole project that we were interested in.They also showed us their coffee roasting business. Cornell Farms recommended I get my high quality topsoil from Boring Bark. I then called them to buy the topsoil for my front yard. I was quoted a price that I felt was reasonable. After deciding this was the way to go in replacing my lawn, I called back and got Sue who quoted a slightly higher price. When I told her I had been quoted a little less she honored that price. She asked when I wanted delivery and I said when can you. I got delivery the very next day and the young man who made the delivery was awesome. He asked us where we wanted it put and was able to maneuver in a tight area easily. I can tell how amazing the sandy loam topsoil is as I spread it around. This place has a lot of great Christmas decorations. They had wreaths of all sizes from huge to tiny that had lots of greenery. I bought two big pieces of Christmas swag to hang in the apartment, They also had a lot of Christmas trees of varying heights including potted trees. we've used these guys for other projects in the past but never again. We're in the middle of a huge project (approximately $10K in landscaping supplies) and won't be using them for ANY of it. We picked up 1000 pounds of rock yesterday (that's all we had room to haul) and came back today to get another 1000 pounds and ask for the "per ton" price and we were denied. We were back within 18 hours and they wouldn't give us their regular ton price. It's nothing to them but it's everything to us. There's a lot of other places that sell exactly the same rock and most are less expensive. We're off to one of them now!! read more

I have been to Boring Bark many times. I appreciate their decorative rock collections. They have yards of boulders in massive rows, ready for a serious landscape landmark. Their plants are vibrant and healthy. They have vignettes set up in the yard to display a shady oasis or a tranquil conversation spot. The staff is friendly and engaged. The place has a great zen vibe--and Cat Moon Coffee shares the building and features full-flavored coffee and a satisfying selection of pastries and snacks. The staff on both sides have a great rapport, and it feels very much like a family company--and in a good way! I will say I have purchased products from the company in the past and been happy with the experiences, overall. Today I had the unfortunate experience of following one of their trucks for several miles and couldn't believe the volume of sawdust blowing out of the back. It was a continuous plume that covered both lanes and caused every hood to coast runner to turn their head or cover their face. I don't know if company policy is such that they don't care about the public impact of this sort of thing or if the driver was too lazy to be bothered covering the back of the truck. The folks at Boring Bark are great. My problem isn't with the people. It's the miserable quality of the firewood. I ordered a cord of pine/fir last year, and after my kids had it stacked realized that it was so unseasoned as to be nearly unburnable. I'd ordered from them in the last, and the wood had been fine. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I ordered another cord a couple of weeks ago. Before my son stacked it, I picked up a piece and it felt fine. Turns out, it was the huge exception. Most of the rest of the cord is heavy and slightly moist, extremely difficult to light and get going. It never sat in any rain at our home. Our wood stove is our heat source, so this is a huge deal. We've gotten tons of compost and 4-way from Boring Bark and we have never had any issues with quality. It's never been weedy and is also helped our yard tremendously. We've even had truck loads delivered and have found that their pricing on delivery is reasonable too. Beautiful fresh cut Christmas trees! December I redeemed a Groupon ($20 for a half pound of fresh roasted coffee & up to a 10' Christmas tree). We arrived as a group of guys unloaded a truck filled with Noble Firs newly cut from Boring Barks tree farm. As they set each tree down from the truck, shook out the needles and did some pruning to groom each tree to perfection-I knew we were in for a great day! We met friends & family (all with Groupons in hand) and selected three trees (one for our parents, another to be auctioned for a Festival of Trees event, and the last for ourselves). Their worst tree was better than the best trees at other lots! Fresh, full and beautifully shaped. They guys let us gather up the excess branches off the ground (gratis) greens for wreaths, center pieces & garland. Inside we choose our bags of coffee to take home and warmed up with sample cups of a few varieties of the coffee roasted on site. Service was welcoming, helpful & friendly- I will certainly be back! Oh, in case your wondering why it took so long to submit my review...we just took our tree down before Valentines Day!
