So!
Take one 16 year old varsity runner with shin splints and weak hips and place her in a medium size gym.
Set her lack of confidence to one side to deal with later.
Marinade liberally in sweat.
Gradually add weights, a sled, a kettlebell, and various other strengthening exercises.
Continue working for one month.
Add back in the lack of confidence, keep kneading and moulding and then step back and watch what happens.
The magic secret ingredient: Carl and his team.
My daughter went through half of her freshman season injured. Then she got better and excelled again. Then she twisted her ankle, compensated for it without resting enough and wound up with shin splints. Half a dozen sessions of physical therapy did nothing to help her and she was at her wits end, and sliding down fast mentally. Me too. No way could I face another season like her freshman year. We would both wind up at the funny farm.
Carl was recommended to me by the parent of a team mate who made a miraculous recovery from shin splints herself last season. I'll be forever grateful for that recommendation. In just a month, Carl and his team have corrected her form, fixed her problem, and are now rebuilding her into an athletic machine. She's no longer in pain, she's mentally in a great place, she is stronger and tougher and even LOOKS way different!
The difference with Carl and his team is that these people REALLY know what they are doing. They don't just look to heal, they look at why the problem happened in the first place, what needs to be done to correct it and prevent it happening again, and THEN they look at improving performance with strengthening and conditioning. They are athletes themselves. They didn't just learn all about kinesiology from a book. They have sweated and bled it themselves so they know an athlete physically, mentally, and most importantly empathetically - they really get it. They can take a holistic approach to getting that athlete back to the top of their game.
My daughter loves going to train here. She will be training here the rest of her high school career and beyond if she stays local for college. But I doubt she will. Thanks to Carl and his team we are predicting a huge Junior year season for her (assuming we get one!) and her dream of running for one of the Big Ones (Washington or Oregon) is now a possibility. Do not hesitate. Run (or hobble if you must) to this gym - you won't regret it. Mop read more
