Booty's is a hidden gem. Don't be fooled by the western theme decor Booty's is much more than a burger joint. Head chef Giani cooks up a mean burger as well as delicious Risotto. His chorizo and sweet plantain risotto was a perfect blend of sweet and salty. The creme-brulee was beautifully plated and tasted just as good as it looked. The only reason my family and I stopped in here was to escape the wicked heat while sightseeing in San Juan. Although we were trying to hunt down an authentic Puerto Rican meal, everyone was too hot and hungry to be picky. This was actually a surprisingly cute restaurant, considering the name. There is a heavy Country Western theme, and most of the food is stuff you'd find in any American restaurant. I could have done without the nonstop country music, personally. I ordered the Mamposteao because it was the only traditional item on the menu. It was very delicious and the flavors were true to the island. The rest of my family ordered burgers and appetizers. No one was thrilled about their meal. The best part of the restaurant was probably the waitress. Despite her thick accent, she was wearing a cowboy hat and cowboy boots and trying desperately hard to fit the theme of the place. This place is a gem that we stumbled upon in Old San Juan. The theme is an American "redneck" type bar - country music on the radio, sports on tv, and of course a huge bar. I loved this place! It was clean and modern. The drink menu was great - I had the "Booty Call" and it was great! Then there's the food. Oh the food... Giani and team made these mofungo balls with an American twist - bacon!!! This was tied for my favorite mofungo out of the dozen or so I've tried so far. Great find. We arrived around 10:15 pm to our home, and needed some food. Booty was the ONLY place still serving food past 10 on a Monday night. They let us in, though the kitchen was already starting to close. They served us Puerto Rican stew, rice and beans, sweet plantains and fried green plantains. All were great, especially the stew. This strangely named place is situated near the Hotel Convento in Old San Juan. It is oddly named because it is not the trashy or raunchy place that the name might portend. It is not the biggest scene or place to be seen. There are bars that are much older, trendier, hipper, and local within steps of this place. It is a clean, well-lit bar that offers a full compliment of beverages, as well as some food. When I came here it was winding down late in the evening. The bartender was very friendly. Maybe because I did not expect it, I had what I consider to be the best mojito I have had in a long time here. If you simply want a good mojito, a place to sit, and a good bartender that can serve a mix of drinks, this is a fine place. Don't let the Booty scare you. read more

Went to this bar for dessert and ended up having a great time! Not only was the chocolate cake delectable the owner of the bar "Chino" was extremely courteous and had the best customer service we've encountered. He went above and beyond our expectations and shared with us some of his off menu specialities. We tried their "naked wings", fresh baked bread, and pasta with meat balls (which were to die for!). We were the only ones in there when we came in so seriously no excuse. As soon as we walked in there, air got quiet and thick. Seemed as though the waitress was not wanting to be bothered or just "too cool" because it took her about 10 mins after we came in to 'greet us'- we were the only ones in there!! Ok we saw the four star rating and decided to give it a go. It was awful! I had a Caesar salad with mahi, my son had a cheese pizza and my husband had some empanadas. The fish was so dry and the lettuce brown on the edges. The pizza which was suppose to be on fresh dough tasted like frozen. The only good thing about it was the cheese. So the bartenders were super sweet! The music was awesome as well There were current songs like Beyoncé and Rihanna. I had a coors lite which was 2 for 6 which was not bad for a happy hour. My only complaint was that one of the workers darkened his face to look like bob Marley and wore fake dreads. It was very disturbing to see. The fact that he wore "black face" was to me very disrespectful and that should have been taken into consideration when choosing that type of costume. read more
