BrickHaus saved us on Christmas Eve. San Juan becomes a ghost town for the holiday and many businesses closed early to spend Christmas, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with their families. They were not going to be catering to tourists, but this place was open the night before when everyone else had already closed up. My daughter wanted a barbecue burger, but they had no more barbecue sauce, but they were able to accommodate her with something similar. I ordered chicken wings that were delicious and hit the spot. I then decided to order a steak quesadilla to go so that we would have some food for the next day in case we didn't find any open restaurants. Sure enough it came in handy. 1st timers. Walked into this "sports bar" to watch NFL football. We were greeted by an older dude with a ponytail yelling rudely "we only have 1 game on, and it's not yours" (we were wearing our teams). We said ok. We ordered bloody Mary's. Went to this restaurant since nothing was available in the area. My party was seated pretty quickly, which is a surprise these days since every restaurant has long wait time. The service is okay at this place. The guy up in front who seated us looked pretty tired, which is understandable since he was a one man show. The drink and food sucked here. Best night is Wednesday where they offer specials on wings and they're pretty legitime when it comes to wings! We came here after having dinner in a neighboring restaurant in Old San Juan. This place in some reviews is called a dive bar which is an accurate description especially since we were getting a drink at the bar and at the same time we had a clear view of the unisex toilet. I ordered a rum punch figuring you are in the Caribbean so when in Rome so to speak. I always enjoy the fact that one the rum is indigenous to the island but each bar has their own special recipe. This place more so they used alot of different rums. Not a place I wanted to stay for more than one drink. There was only two others in the place other than the bartender. Music was ok but kinda dead for a Thursday night. read more

Absolutely love this place! We hang out here and watch sports every time we make our way over to Old San Juan. It's owned and run by an awesome family who we manage to spend hours chatting with during our visits. This place is within walking distance of the Coast Guard base, so naturally my brother had found it and they welcomed him with open arms. When we visited him, he took us here and we also were welcomed with open arms, literally. We were getting hugs when we walked in. Staff is wonderful and Cesar knows anything and everything you need or want to know. Just remember that in PR, you need to allot at least an hour or two when going out because service on the island could be considered lax by non-native islanders. (It's just the way it is, so remember this tip when venturing around.) Oh, and they speak English! Food is delicious! I love the quesadillas. I was trying to remember what else I had tried, but I do remember it was all delicious. Restrooms are very clean in comparison to some on the island. They also have souvenirs to buy if you want. My fiance bought a black cowboy hat with the BrickHaus logo on it and I got one of their bottle openers. I'm glad I did; it always turns heads when we bust it our at parties. Awesome amount of variety of flavors for everyone. Drinks were great and they didn't lack alcohol (not diluted). Great prices as well..even for such a touristy spot. I loved it. The food was really good. My daughter got taquitos. So delicious. I got nachos with chicken and chorizo (I think) and my youngest just got chicken breast and fries. The chicken was so juicy and flavorful as bland as it may look in my photos. I can't believe that sweet tea isn't a thing in Puerto Rico. It's further south than Florida. I didn't have a sweet tea for a whole week. Nestea or fuse is not sweet tea. Don't insult me. Lol. I believe that it was fate for us to visit this particular bar first. Not only did we meet a seriously sweet staff but we also got a great guide of the ins and outs of old San Juan. Cesar, who works Mon-Fri, can tell you almost anything you need to know about where to grab a good meal or a cheap drink. Bob, who we meet on the weekend, is a star wars fan and don't get him started on comedies from the late 90s, he starts quoting his favorites with ease. First of all try the local beers while in town. The magna and medalla are great cheap beers that you can find all over. Get a taste for them and you can get a $2 10oz can almost anywhere. They have 2-for-1 well drinks during happy hour (which might never end if you're a nice patron). Suddenly an order of delicious sizzling fajitas went by and we were starving. We ordered a quick appetizer of fries. Then I noticed the fish bowl menu. Personal for $15 and mostly made of rum. Cesar said I could order only if I shared with my guy, which was something I could agree on. Needless to say we were more than content to take a long walk after paying for our relatively inexpensive bar tab. After going to a few bars that Cesar suggested for us, we returned with food on the mind. I got fajitas. It should have been a shared plate but I did not care at that point. They were delicious but I definitely left more than my fair share. Partner in crime ordered a burger which was delicious but smaller than the typical monster burgers served in the states. The next time there we ordered the chips salsa and guac. It was great but make sure you like some kick, the salsa is spicy. Tuesday night's they are host to an acoustic one man band. If it hadn't been pouring I'd have returned later in the evening to experience that (on our third trip back to the bar). read more

I experienced rude employees outside and definitely would not recommend this place based on that. We got frozen yogurt next door and all the tables at FrozenYo were taken, so we sat at Brickhaus as they had ZERO customers, two employees were just sitting outside talking, and there were still plenty of empty seats. We were told to move. Yes, we were technically sitting in Brickhaus' seats, but they weren't being used by their customers and we obviously would have moved if they had a customer, but they didn't.
