Apple Healthcare run a small chain of pharmacies across Scotland, with one other in Edinburgh located in Musselburgh. I went in today, partly to get out of the horrendous rain, but partly to have a look at their shower gel. Pharmacies quite often stock a small range of toiletries, and this one is no exception. Their prices compare very favourably to the supermarkets, and are certainly lower than I found when I was in Sainsbury's the other day. Apart from the toiletries, you'll find everything a pharmacy should offer, with prescription and over-the-counter medicines available. They also offer some consultation services, including a stop smoking service. A small pharmacy that offers a lot to the local community.

The make up selection is more limited and there are no posh brands. You'll also (randomly) find umbrellas, magazines and jewellery in here! What's best about this store is its location. It's right next to all the main bus stops at Shandwick Place, so a quick dive in for toothpaste, sun screen or moisturiser is easy done.

I'd been helping doing some building work at my church, and had felt like I had some kind of repetitive strain injury or something. So, I went in seeking some advice and a support. Both of these were provided. The assistant I spoke to was able to advise me on the sort of support that I would require, as well as suggesting that I should perhaps take things a bit easier in future! Apart from that, it's stocked full of the standard chemists' bits and bobs. Although I've only been here once, I was impressed with the service I received, and would use it again - something that is likely as I now live not far away.

So - no issues, always get medicines, etc that I need, whether it is prescription or just over the counter stuff. Staff are helpful and friendly and the pharmacist is always really helpful in recommending things if you are a bit unsure about whether you need to go to the doctors or not. All in all, a good wee local Boot's with good opening hours (I think till 6pm, Mon to Fri).

I'm a creature of simple tastes when it comes to my beauty regime and so far this place has ever let me down. I'm not going to up my rating though because, maybe I'm just spoiled, but where's all the deals?! I work on a limited budget (also I'm a miser...) so I rejoice in deals but this small shop rarely has any, apart from emery boards at the till the odd time. There's also not a huge range when it comes to newer big name brands, you'll get your Nivea and Clearasil but don't expect any of the newer brands that can be found in the bigger shops. They seem to have a particular client base, who like the essentials and they're sticking with it! So, besides me being annoyed I have to pay full price for things, the staff are nice and always helpful.
