My 8yo daughter was struggling with sensory issues (unable to tolerate seams, underwear, or close fitting clothes) and a friend suggested I contact Pauline at Helping Hand. The exercises have made a huge difference to what she can wear, though there are still issues, and Pauline also noticed that she was having trouble focusing. The optician was initially dubious but more detailed investigation showed glasses were needed. Pauline is a delight to work with, and clearly loves what she does as well as being good at it! We are currently working with children who have diagnosis of Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Irlen Syndrome, ADD, ADHD and Sen The symptoms are all too obvious, but the causes less so. All information entering and leaving the brain is processed in the cerebellar-vestibular system. If this system is not working efficiently due to developmental delay then it can cause or aggravate any or all of the problems mentioned on this page. The individual programmes we provide work at a very early point developmentally. They work by securing the foundations on which all other development is built. Very simply by revisiting some of the very early developmental stages these programmes can improve the efficiency of the cerebellum. This in turn reduces the degree to which sensory information is allowed to overwhelm the system and let's kids get on with doing. Because it works at such a fundamental level it can help lots of children and adults who have very different presenting problems and/or diagnosis.
History
Established in 2013.
I am a therapist with almost 20 years experience of working with children and famiies as a Social worker in both residential and home settings. I practice the INPP method of reflex integration and stimulation in Edinburgh and South Lanarkshire. I am a certified INPP practitioner and an INPP licentiate. I am qualified to provide Johansen auditory stimulation. In my work with Children and families I often had cause to wonder why some people were affected by negative experience to a greater or lesser extent than others. The answer at least for some is retained relfexes. The experience my son had in our local school led me to look into what was available outwith the eductation system to help our children when the education system was not equiped to do so. INPP was a life changing intervention for him and for our family. I trained so that I could offer that kind of service to others.
Meet the Business Owner: Pauline Shannon p.
Pauline has a background in working with children who are experiencing difficulties at home and in school. After a break to raise her own family she has undertaken further education in the field of child developement and education including a Waldorf teacher training course, Johansen IAS practitioner course. She is currently undertaking INPP training and is commited to on going training. Her interest in the difficulties experienced by children and adults in learning and coping with life, led her to understand that there are often developmental or processing issues which are in effect barriers to learning and coping. This led her to explore the interesting areas of Neuro Developmental Delay and auditory processing (listening) difficulties.
