Settling in after moving from my prior home of 21 years has had its moments. Yet tonight when I…read morewent to Chalk Hill Ranch to spend time with my beloved horse, I am reminded of why I moved here. Because my horse and his daily experience is such a high priority for me, I first had to ensure that I found a proper home for him and then I could find my own home. Finding Chalk Hill Ranch was one of the best experiences I have had in the 17 years With my horse. Tonight he carried me back onto the trails for the first time. We had many years riding the trails in the Berkeley Hills and tonight was very special. He and I both experienced great peace in the beauty of the natural environment- the creek, the trees, the birds. And my heart was reminded that this is why I moved. We found a sacred ranch with beautiful people and loving care. We are so grateful.

I have been beyond pleased with my decision to move my horse to Chalk Hill Ranch. There are many…read moredifferent options for your horse (stalls, single horse pastures, group pastures etc.) which is always a nice feature to have at any horse facility. With access to trails, an outdoor arena, lit indoor arena, obstacle course, and a round pin you truly can't ask for much more. It is a peaceful environment and everyone truly cares about the wellbeing of your horse. It's the type of place where if I can't make it out for a few days I am not nervous. I know if something was amiss with my horse I'd be notified which provides me with a ton of peace of mind.

She puts her heart and soul into making sure horses and humans are safe and loved. My mare recently suffered a bout of laminitis and Leah was there night and day, going above and beyond to keep Flame comfortable. Knowing that Leah was treating Flame as her own was more support than I could have ever hoped for and demonstrated that she is the consummate horse person in it for all the right reasons. The standard of care she provides is excellent: high-quality feed, deep bedding, attention to detail for grain, supplements, meds, blanketing, etc. Large outdoor arena with varied jump standards, covered indoor arena w/ lights and dressage mirrors, and trails through the forest and surrounding hills, provide year-round riding for a variety of disciplines and interests. Stalls with attached runs, large daily turnouts, and pastures where horses can be horses create a stress and drama-free environment for both horse and owner. The property is fenced and requires a gate/security code, owners live on the property, and Leah and her staff truly know horses so that horses, clients, equipment, etc. are always safe and secure.

The work that she has done with my new, young mare has been amazing. My horse, who less than three months ago spooked at everything, paced and couldn't calm down is now a happy girl who is a joy to take on the trails. Silver Oak offers a large indoor arena, outdoor arena, trails, well-organized tack and feed storage, a nice variety of paddock options, many options for turnout, numerous grooming and bathing stations, and more. It's really a great facility!

My son and niece had the best week last week at A-1 Horse Programs at Owen Ranch in Middletown…read more Helen, the ranch owner, and the instructor knew what each kid needed to be successful in their horsemanship journey, whether it was confidence, courage, encouragement, discipline, etc, she was there to provide what each kid needed to succeed. I was so impressed with her innate ability to understand the needs of the kids and provide what was needed at the moment to get the best results. It was really hot while we were there, like triple digits hot! The kids were hot and tired after each day, but they were still excited about camp and eager to go back each morning. Helen and her assistant Sam were good about keeping an eye on the kids and cooling them down frequently with a hose down, which the kids loved, lol. The kids also absolutely adored their horses. Both horses were very sweet and gentle. The kids loved rewarding their horses at the end of each day with an apple. From day one the kids were hands-on learning how to properly care for their horse and prepare it for a ride. On the very first day they learned how to securely tie it to a post when not being ridden and not in a pen, they learned how to harness and lead their horse out of the pen, they learned how to brush their horse before saddling, they learned how to bridle and saddle their horses. They learned how to walk their horses to warm them up before a ride, they learned how to properly hose a hot horse down to cool it down after a ride in hot temps. They did all that and still had some arena time so that they were also able to learn how to properly control their horse. Day 2 they did all their horse prep and care then had some arena time to strengthen riding skills and then they were off for a trail ride that was about an hour long. The rest of the week was about the same with the kids in the saddle a good 2 hours each day. On the 4th day they learned how to wash the horses and the last day was dedicated to a show the kids put on for the parents to show how well they had learned to direct their horses. On his first day my son was slouching in his saddle and saying he couldn't do a lot of what was asked of him. By mid-week his riding posture was greatly improved and Helen had him saying "I can, instead of I can't" She told him if he could control a 1000 lb horse at just 7 years old, he could do anything! I hope he remembers that forever! He was even excited to carry his horse's rather heavy saddle by himself by the end of the week because he knew he could do anything. Thank you Helen for the best week we had all summer, we will be back.

She welcomed us to play with the goats while she saddled the horses. She matched us perfectly with the horses, from my 6'4" husband, my 60+ yr old mother, and my elementary age children. She was great with instruction and safety, and the trail ride, which included a walk through the running water was an hour perfectly spent. She even took photos that she shared with us at the end of the experience. Incredible customer service. Absolutely worth every penny!
