We've taken the boat and have drove up over an hour one way and consider ourselves, " regulars". Over the weekend, we decided to venture up early and get there around 5 o'clock before it got busy, the first thing I noticed was a lot of the staple menu items were missing. The things that we had grown to love were gone off of the menu. I realize Food is now at an all-time high. The Jamaican chicken wings, poblano peppers, and several other appetizers that probably help put them above most other restaurants were no longer on their menu that we always ordered when we came. The drinks, the service are always phenomenal! Everyone is so nice there, what I always find impressive is the owners (the new owners as well) are always working right alongside their staff. My go to item is the coconut shrimp, which is the best I have ever had anywhere! My husband had the steak "Oscar" I ended up getting the smash reds and the brussels sprouts. The brussels sprouts were charred to the point where there was hardly any and dry, I was quite surprised at how very little was left of them under the leafy green, I didn't even eat them And the smash reds were dry and crumbly because of lack of moisture. No! I did not tell my waitress, I didn't want to complain lol (they started getting very busy) I just ended up boxing the food and taking it home (and yet yes, I'm posting a review) lol gheesh We did have to ask for dinner bread, which I thought came with the meal? They should per my suggestion automatically bring that out, If it's already being made in the back, and it's an item that they can provide, especially if people are dining on steaks and seafood, I guess maybe it should be an automatic to bring dinner bread.. I noticed that people next to us ordered prime rib both of them, and they too, had to ask for dinner bread. ( by the way, it was wonderful.)!! The only problem my husband had, was that the butter for the bread and the potato, came in the real tiny little individual packets.... He's a big guy and he could barely open the packets to get the butter out and it was a mess on the table., and he had tons of butter packets all over the place to butter the potato and the bread, etc. I almost wonder if it wouldn't be more cost-efficient just to put butter in a small ramekin like they do the sour cream like any other nice restaurant that you go to? This is only to say that I've noticed some small changes that could be fixed, to improve the dining experience, not to say Channel marker has went down downhill?!? Because it hasn't! We love this place that's why we make it a two hour round-trip to come here, we love the location, the people, and the selection on the menu, was just a little surprised at some of the things that had been taken off that's all. That's why we will return, and that's why we didn't really say anything while we were there as to not cause a problem. I'm not even sure if this review will make a difference. Or if the owners will take note. Everyone wants this restaurant to succeed always, the dining options on Wawasee Lake are outstanding! I include the Channel marker in that lineup! I just don't know if it was an off night in the kitchen, or dinner service was getting off to a rough start, and it got better towards the evening! The cost of our meal was great! What two alcoholic beverages Steak, shrimp, appetizer, and tip It was right around $100 Waterfront dining as well.

It's on the lake, people come in dehydrated, be like every other restaurant and offer cups of water. No need to nickel and dime people, not to mention the insane amount of plastics being used. Heads up their Cole slaw side comes in a condiment cup, it's about 2 bites. Fries are tasting are a good portion size. Love the place, would be all about it if they upped a couple portion sizes and offered water to customers!

Boathouse Restaurant (Winona Lake) - climate controlled patio dinning with relaxing lake front…read moreviews I'm always interested in dinning & relaxing at a restaurant with good lake front views. The Boathouse Restaurant in Winona Lake has good food and a nice view of...Winona Lake. You can find them about 45 minutes west (driving highway 30) of Fort Wayne near Grace College (see map). The restaurant is set right on the lake. It is also nestled by some cute shops (The Village at Winona) for pre or post dinner browsing. The Boathouse Restaurant's lake views come in a covered patio (see picture). You are right on the lake. All diners can see the water from their table. The patio is enclosed much like a four season room. You can catch the breeze off the water when the windows are open. Or you can shut the windows and pull the shades if the temperature and sun light isn't to your liking. I'm sure this would still be a great view in the cooler fall and spring seasons. The Boathouse is a large restaurant. However, I would encourage reservations via their web site. You can reserve the patio, bar or main dinning areas. The facility is nicely decorated in that boat theme. Lots of attractive hardwoods and lake colors. We found the restaurant to be very comfortable and relaxing. The menu is very large - something for everyone (see menus). Chicken, steak, pasta, salads, wraps, bowls, burgers, seafood - they have it. Prices are reasonable (steak $30+, chicken $23+, burgers $16+). We have been here a couple times. Each time the food was delicious and the service was what you would expect. Here is a run down on the items we ordered: -Table Bread: multigrain bread, served warm and soft, easily pulled apart; nice soft creamy butter accompaniment -Side Salad: simple salad, smaller in size; very fresh with a few side veggies (cucumbers, tomatoes, onion and shredded Parmesan cheese; crunchy croutons; homemade 1000 Island dressing was thick with a smooth taste -Burrito Bowl: my wife loved the fresh lettuce and peppers; chicken was nicely grilled, moist and slightly seasoned; rice was perfectly cooked with a firm consistency -Tenderloin (special menu item): outstanding! Very moist and tender, slightly thicker steak; thin batter with a slight crisp and hint of oil; grilled onions were a nice but unusual add; bun was slightly grilled, buttered and soft -Macaroni salad: mayo base that tended to be a bit heavy; nicely cooked noodles; added small pieces of celery, onion and green pepper; nice adder to the sandwich If you like lake views and relaxing dinning...make the drive to the Boathouse Restaurant. Also make sure you get there before 6p so you can enjoy the shopping village that is near the restaurant. And...take a long walk down the channel to see the big lake.

Pasta Diablo - $23 - Shrimp, scallops, and clams with linguine in a spicy cajun tomato sauce. This had really good flavor. It's a bit spicy, and the heat will catch up to you. 5/5 stars. Chocolate Cake - $11 - There's a choice between one or two scoops of ice cream, and it costs a dollar more for the second scoop. Even if there wasn't two of us, you need two scoops to go with the cake, because it's a good portion. It's a pretty decent cake. 5/5 stars. Service was good. Ambiance is nice. Great place to get a good meal and to hang out by the lake.

I'm glad they were open a little later than average. I was delighted to eat a smoked brisket burger. That thing must've been 6 inches high. It was a monster. My sweetie loved the fish tacos. They have an amazing wasabi, mayo sauce that goes with them. The middles split a prime rib Mac and cheese. They described it as "real American food" with a smile and a twinkle in their eye. That means it's delicious. It's actually a bacon prime rib, mac & cheese, and they don't even mention the bacon because the prime rib is so good. Very filling. I took a sample and it is probably the best tasting meat augmented mac & cheese I've ever tasted. The smokiness just does something amazing there. I like the background music. I like the barn, Midwest, rustic ambience. It was a delicious experience. I had to share about it online with some Japanese folks because of their recent enthusiasm for American "cheese violence". I asked if that magnificent burger qualifies as "meat violence".

I finally decided to try the Chubby Trout tonight…read more I was greeted by a couple of friendly and smiling faces at the door. I was Seated right away and introduced to my waitress, Taylor, immediately. Taylor deserves special accolades. She was so friendly and caring; she made my dining experience special. Thank you Taylor!! Taylor was awesome; she was friendly, always checking on me and sincerely concerned about my satisfaction. She was willing to do anything to make things right if I wasn't happy with something. First I ordered the Crab Cakes as an appetizer. Then I ordered off the specials menu; a Japanese spiced Branzino dish. The crab cakes were somewhat disappointing. Mostly filler and not much crab taste. Sometimes the taste actually resembled a tuna fish sandwich. The remoulade sauce that came with the crab cakes was really tasty. I wasn't really happy with the branzino dish. The fish was cooked pretty well, but "in my opinion" It had too much seasoning and the seasoning had an off flavor. Could just be my personal tastes. The restaurant has a lot of seating, little nooks and corners and a bar with seating. Plenty of quiet areas and areas to gather as a large group as well. Even though I didn't have great food choices today; I'm pretty sure while I'm in town this weekend, I'll go back and try some different dishes. See you all soon!!
