My kids and I LOVE this place! They either have what I want or they will get it quickly. Competitive pricing too, we have even found them to be less than online ordering on occasion. Unique and fun gifts make it fun to browse. We frequently come here to do homework in the cafe area and enjoy a smoothie or ice cream while we work. Free wifi to boot. I loved this place when it was on Monterey Street - the atmosphere was special and unique: narrow aisles, tall bookshelves packed with books, immediately indulging one in the world of fiction. I was hesitant when they moved away from Monterey Street; however, their current space has really grown on me. Although the atmosphere is not as cool as the original store, this is still a beautiful bookstore. The staff is more than helpful; they're both knowledgeable and engaging - they've done their own reading. If they look for it and don't have it, they'll order it for you. If I could, I would go here more often; however, my wallet limits my patronage as each visit inevitably results in an armload of books. read more

This is a quaint family owned bookstore. I normally don't buy any books when I go to BN, but I felt the urge to support small businesses. So, both kids got a gift each. My daughter spent a lot of time rummaging through their books. Although their selection isn't large, she still had fun. It helps that they have Treat ice cream there as well. Just went there this past Sat to play games with a group. This is a little gem & I hope it'll stay in business for a long time. The small eatery inside provides tasty treats including ice cream at very reasonable prices. I felt guilty for not buying any books or games but will definitely consider patronizing their stuff, not just buying the food & taking advantage of the place by using it to play games. When I need a gift, this is the first place I go. The owners Brad and Cinda are so smart about what's in their store. I can say, "Fast-moving five-year-old" and three seconds later they have a dozen gift ideas that are better than anything I could have come up with. The independent bookstore of America is struggling, but for those that are doing it right, they will be around for a long time. BookSmart, run by Brad and Cinda, is going to be one of those bookstores. Offering a wide selection of genres, as well as merchandise by local artists as well as more mainstream products, BookSmart is a great place to find anyone a gift or find the latest popular title you are looking for. They also offer a cafe with tables, where you can grab your favorite delicious coffee and sit and read your new book amongst friends. The most important thing I'd like to say about Brad and Cinda is that they are pillars of the community. They do so much for Morgan Hill and the community, including donations, fund raising and support, that they really are the definition of "community pillars". Booksmart! How brilliant and lovely, and so much more than a bookstore! I moved to Morgan Hill only two years ago from Cupertino, and was lucky to find it almost immediately. It has an immense collection of books, eyecatchingly displayed, in fact, the entire store looks bright and vibrant, deliciously filled to the brim with fun and cerebral bric-a-brac. It has a unique local and worldwide flavour! It's the heart and pulse of Morgan Hill downtown. It's the world (via its books). Perfect. The customer service is impeccable. The knowledgeable, friendly and helpful staff always impresses me. There are educational toys, in addition to children's books, to entice the kids, and icecream and a cafe to make the entire family stay a while. The place is always buzzing with activity. Art and Spanish classes, tutoring, book signings, mornings with the mayor, and my very favourite Book Lovers Bookclub. I joined it 5 months after moving here, and wished I had heard of it on day 1. I've read books I would have never picked up on my own, and have had the most thought provoking and stimulating discussions with the loveliest people! We don't always agree, and therefore, I improve and expand my mind continually. Owners Cinda and Brad feel like old friends to me now, and all the other members. I've hesitated to write a review so far, because I wasn't sure I'd do it justice, but thought I'd give it a try today, as I hear that Booksmart will have to move from it's present location soon. It fills me with fear...we've got to preserve this rare gem. I truly feel like I belong here in this new town, and a lot of it has got to do with the jewel that is Booksmart. This is a nice little book store in beautiful downtown Morgan Hill. It has a very warm and comfortable atmosphere, helpful staff, and is a great place to find books on a variety of topics or reading interests. I particularly enjoy picking up something to read there and having a snack, or reading while having an enjoyable meal at one of my other favorite haunts downtown. It's also a convenient option when ordering books. They have been able to track down some very hard to find books for me in the past and ordered them for me with a smile. read more

OMG, a real bookstore outside santa cruz. There is a god. Amazing selection for the size, although the aisles are a little tight, and a cute/good little coffee corner to boot. I give this book store 5 stars for excellent customer service.......and I didn't even buy a book from them! My duaghter is going to the Inauguration next week and I thought it would be nice if she wore a sweatshirt with her hometown on it. So you ask......how did I end up at a book store? Initially I went to Walgreens, htey had sweatshirts but all were way too big. Then I went to Make it Mine Embroidery who also sells MH sweatshirts, although the posted hours were 8:30a to 5:00p M-Th, the store was closed at 2:30p!!! Guess they don't need the business. My last attempt to procure a sweatshirt, the MH Chamber of Commerce. Explianed to them what I was looking for and why and was told by the gentleman there that they didn't have a sweatshirts right now becasue they were all in storage. You would think that the Inauguration of the first african american president would warrant a phone call to get a sweatshirt out of storage! Oh, well, guess they don't need the business either. At least the man was kind enough to refer me to Book Smart, thinking that they may have a sweatshirt or two from last years Centennial Parade. Unfortunately, they did not, but this is where the 5 stars come in.......the owner of Book Smart, Cinda, took a moment to make a phone call to the chairwoman of the MH Centennial Parade to see if she would be able to sell me a sweatshirt! Now, thats customer service! In the end, I was able to get a transfer of the MH Centennial Logo to make my own sweatshirt.......it feels good to know that there are still benefits to living in a small town! Next time I am in the market for a book, Book Smart will definatley get my business!!! read more

I love this place. You can go and get free ice cream on your b-day. The selection of books and workbooks are great. They also carry all kinds of Usbourne books, great books. I'm a homeschooling mom and really love all the resources they have. My kids love the educational toys too. Their food is yummy and the staff is so friendly. this place has almost everything... books, ice cream, food, coffee, art supplies, even toys . everyone is very polite. i take my son 4 yr old there when we go for walks they are very nice when he counts his change to pay for his ice cream. they have tables in doors and outside so you can sit and enjoy a book and coffee or catch up with old friends. read more

This is why Morgan Hill is still a small town. Booksmart has struggled to find a home and unlike other businesses in Morgan Hill it has survived. The couple who own and operate this business are caring business owners and make speacial arrangements for their customers. Recently we needed a notary and the owner stayed a little longer than normal to wait for us to arrive to get somethings notarized. Their selection of books is pretty good and you will find something closely related to what you are looking for. They have set up a coffee shop in the place but it is not very inviting nor does it look comfortable. I would not sit or hang out there although they would like you to. Bathrooms are always clean and private. If you need that hard to find book, they will get it for you. They are very good at twhat they do. read more

Just recently moved my business next to BookSmart and had no idea how much they offered there! They have great lunches: my favorite Greek chicken wrap! I love the Yummy Bubble Gum ice cream, soup and speciality sodas! Great place to pick up a Gift Certificate for a gift for that last minute birthday party you child is going too.Huge toy section and a tons of books! My kids love going there! This is a great store. I've been going there for a very long time (maybe twelve years now? I started buying books at this place when I was eight or nine). The people who own the place are really nice, totally willing to special order ANYTHING for you with a pretty phenomenal turn-around time (I've always gotten what I ordered in a week or less.... quite impressive). Most of the staff are really nice, though a few can be snippish and rude. That's my only real complaint, but most of the time I get good service. The owners are fantastic, but there's a few people who work there I'm less than excited to talk to. The selection is fantastic (gluten free cookbooks? check. vampire-repellent mints? check. signed copies of Starhawk's books? check again!) The cafe is nice, with reasonably priced food, including Treat Ice Cream, which is getting harder to find. It used to be all over Morgan Hill. Oh, and the Tomato Cabbage soup is to die for. I've been here lots and lots of times, and each time I'm greeted with a smile and a helpful worker. They have an amazing selection of books and are organized in a way that is easy to find what you're looking for. And if you can't, there's someone at the counter to help. Besides the books they have a great selection of toys and fun nick knacks, jewelry, and gifts. As if that's not enough they have a little eatery where you can get coffee, ice cream, even some lunch. What keeps me coming back though is the friendly staff who always makes me feel like I'm a favorite costumer. I went looking here for a book I could use as a guest book for my wedding and Cinda helped made the great suggestion of using a book of classic love poems. It was perfect and I even had some guest writing in poems of their own. This is a great spot to go gift shopping at. read more
