My favorite shop for art straight from Mexico! My biggest issue is not buying everything i see. I have several garden animals and birds along with a solid collection of magnets and a beautiful apron. There is a variety of things: - cookware and kitchen ceramics - garden art - paper decor and flowers - jewlery - clothing - there is even a small but cool little soccer shop that is separate business but located in the side/back of this shop. They do have an online site but nowhere near as much variety and items as they have in their magical store. I visit whenever I am in town and I love all the items I have collected. Artemex is a cute touristy store represented on their website with the title, "Mexican arts and crafts." It's a Total TOURIST TRAP! Which suckered me in immediately with its bright vibrant colors and welcoming atmosphere. The owner was very curious why I was snapping so many photos. With as little knowledge that I have of Gilroy, I noticed immediately there's so much potential for this shop. With more exposure and recognition within the Gilroy community, "Mexican arts and crafts" fanatics have the opportunity to dash in! I totally fell in loooove with Artemex! The cute souvenirs that I know are staples in Mexico are here!!... In Gilroy! How cool is that!?!!! So many hand-crafted items that are perfect for gifts! Though everything is totally overpriced, I appreciated the intricate details of the beaded necklace, cute Frida coin purse with a sturdy zipper, and a commemorative magnet that resembles a dragon to me. The magnet has another meaning to it to Spanish-speaking people but I wasn't able to gather the story and meaning of it. This is the spot if you're into a tourist-like experience miles away from actually being physically in a Spanish-speaking country. This place is such a hidden gem in downtown Gilroy. The store itself is set up beautifully and offers stunning Mexican folk art pieces in a boutique like setting. There's so much to see but it's not overwhelming and the prices are very reasonable. You can definitely find some great and unique gifts in here. The owner is super friendly and is also an artist herself so definitely be sure to check out her own personal hand made items. We found this cute place downtown. When you walk in you can see that the store is very welcoming. The owner was helping showed me some items. I purchased a cute key holder with hummingbirds The prices are good and I love the botanical vibe. I bought several items for my home. I could have bought more but I will definitely stop in again when I come to the Monterey area. read more

Walking by today to get coffee and noticed the store has expanded. All the pottery stuff has it's own room now. We hadn't been in a year or so. The prices were great and seemed lower? I don't know but I had to stop myself from getting more than I could carry. I ended up with this small bird fountain for $45! Overly priced, stuffy inside, the atmosphere is uncomfortable, and worst OF all the Customer service is HORRIBLE!!! No hello,, no welcome in, no how can i help! All that was said as soon as we walked in is "use hand sanitizer". I brought my service dog in and was told I could only stay in one area of the store....how am I suppose to shop? I simply walked out.....I would not even spend any of my energy here and I hope you don't either. Sadest thing is this place WAS my moms favorite place to shop and she spends big when she does. This place was awesome! My husband and I drove by one weekend while avoiding traffic on the 101 and it was right there on Monterey Rd. We remembered where it was and went back when we had more time. It was fabulous! The lady was so nice in helping us see the items on the wall and was very friendly. The items ranged from clothing (embroidered blouses to hooded ponchos) and they had such an assortment of ceramic art and glassware. Most pieces even matched. Our house is of this decor and it was wonderful to see such a wide selection at such a reasonable price. We go to Olvera St in LA and even Hacienda in Monterey but the prices here were amazing. We ended up walking out purchasing a beautiful colored ceramic pot and matching turtle for a fountain for the front yard and a metal piece for our room and spent under a hundred bucks. All the pieces were straight imports (no cracks, chips, or wear). I would highly recommend this place if you're into hacienda style decor or day of the dead decor. Definitiely better quality than the stuff you find in E. Salinas or Watsonville. Great buying experience! We will be back once we complete our bar to stock it with all the beautiful ceramic wear. My beastie & I drove from San Mateo to check out this store. We usually see their booth at the Redwood City Salsa Festival every year and had heard they opened a store in Gilroy.
