Don't subscribe to The Mercury due to their consent missed deliveries and taking no action to…read morecorrect the problem! Then when you ask to cancel the horrible service, they tell you they won't refund your money! Sweet deal for them! Take your money and give no service. No office you can go to in person. No one returns calls. Hope they go out of business, so all those bastards loose their jobs!

We've all heard the saying "It ain't what it used to be." Sadly, the Mercury ain't what it used to…read morebe. For several reasons. 1. Lag in covering sporting events and late-day news events. Remember when the Phillies played at 7:00 on Monday and you could read the write-up (even if you didn't want to) Tuesday morning? No more. Now, you gotta wait till Wednesday morning. Yep. That's because for some reason they go to press a lot earlier now than they used to. That means games starting at NORMAL time, 7 pm, won't be final yet when they're ready to print the next morning's paper. Does that make any sense? It makes the standings confusing too because they're not going to be up-to-date with the lag. Even with high school football games now they do that--if they play Friday night it won't be in this paper till Sunday morning. 2. Corporate ownership has eroded the local home-town touch. That should be self-explanatory. Digital First Media also owns and operates Norristown's Times Herald and Lansdale's Reporter, among others. Heck, they might as well just consolidate them all into one regional daily newspaper. I wouldn't put that past them, that's probably what they're going to do next. In fact, if you look in the Classifieds in the Mercury, a lot of the ads are from small businesses in Delaware County. Not Montgomery or Berks or Chester--Delaware! Are you kidding me? 3. Subscription policy that's designed to gouge readers instead of giving them what they really want. The other two reviews prior to this one touch on that as well. In fairness, if you read it carefully it does say no credit for vacation stoppages, but that's no excuse not to stop delivery for vacations either. If it isn't bad enough we keep paying more for less (paper keeps getting smaller), they want you to opt out of their "Special Editions" in order to get the full amount of time you're paying for, otherwise it's going to expire sooner. We're going to end up trapped in a vicious cycle where we have to renew sooner than we were expecting, pay more--do it again in a few weeks, pay more--and so on. When I'm up for renewal again this time, prior reviews notwithstanding, I might just call them and say that's it, I'm done. On that note, if you tell them you don't want it, and they keep bringing it and send you a bill, don't pay it. You told them, you don't want it. 4. Last but not least, there's Sound Off. Why in the world do they keep printing that garbage? Every now and then there's a comment in there that is useful and informative but it's overrun by all the garbage. That's all I'm going to say.
