After shopping at Five Below, I headed to my rental car to put away my purchases. This Books-A-Million store next door caught my attention. I had never been to one. I returned to check it out. I love a good bookstore. I am known to spend at least a good hour leafing through books and looking at whatever merchandise it has. This store is a gem. As someone who likes stationery, gift ideas, and collectables, this store has everything. I have a natural inclination to head to the discount book section. You can find everything from fiction to cookbooks. I loved it. Not that I need any more notebooks or planners, but there are some nice ones here. I liked the hedgehog one with spiral binding. I nearly died happy in the Star Wars section. The number of Grogu items felt infinite. I ended up getting a set of Grogu measuring cups and spoons. I had never seen them before and they were lightweight to bring back home. I stood in front of the book holders section for the longest time. You can place these holders on a notebook or book to store your reading glasses, pens, cell phone, and more. They were practical and cool. There were gigantic Squishmallows towards the back of the store. It made me so happy seeing them. I had thought about driving back home with them in the backseat, but it would have been an extremely expensive road trip. I also wanted a pair of typewriter bookends. They looked classy and neat. They were so heavy, though. Instead, i have a photo to remind me of their coolness. I went to pay for my Grogu items at the counter. I had a nice man help me out. There was a problem, though. He couldn't find the barcodes for my measuring cups and spoons. They weren't on the packaging. He consulted with his colleague. Apparently, the tags with barcodes were inside the cups and spoons, within their plastic packaging. Okay, how ridiculous is that move? The man had to cut open both items in their packaging to get to the tags to scan them. Thankfully, these items were for me, so it didn't matter that they were out of their packaging. Perhaps it would matter for a diehard collector who wants items in pristine condition, or a germaphobe who neither wants this man's fingerprints on the merchandise, nor mine. Anyway, all was great once both barcode tags were scanned. I paid for my items with a credit card. All was great. This store has a program called Millionaire's Club. Since this was my first time ever seeing this store, I didn't opt into it. You can get discounts on your orders here. If you do shop here often, it's worth your while. It was great finding this bookstore and spending an hour looking at everything. I loved it. If I'm ever back in this area, I'd return and check out the other stores at Nashville West Shopping Center, too. (286) read more

I was in this location on July 4 weekend. The employees here were extremely friendly, helpful, and kind in helping us locate numerous books. This store operates efficiently and is well stocked. A great experience all around. Large selection at a fair cost. read more

I love bookstores... and I love the people who work there. They're my people. I had a great time nerding out with the workers about a series and they had great recommendations for me! Seriously, no better way to spend a Tuesday night than at a bookstore. read more

I can't say that I am a fan of Books*A*Million, it reminds me of a second rate Barnes & Noble, offering both new and used books on a rather cluttered environment that I simply cannot find aesthetically pleasing. The staff here was extremely friendly and I found a few decent deals, but none were enough to make me grab that tome within my hands and rush to the cash register to make a purchase. read more

Books-A-Million - Bookstores Near Me - Nashville, Tennessee

I've been to this bookstore numerous times times and it's always been a wonderful experience. Today included. Staff greeted me, very friendly and genuinely caring about what they do. I had a book on hold and the gentleman at the counter got it for me right away. We spoke about the book, a fantastic Sci Fi anthology that was just released. Going. to the bookstore, smelling the "book" smells, seeing a vast collection of books and attractive displays reminded me of how much I've enjoyed going to a book store, as opposed to just ordering it online. I used to take my sons to the bookstore often and we'd always leave with arms full of books. Real pleasurable memories for me. If you haven't visited a bookstore lately, I highly recommend it, and this one is great! read more

Stopped in yesterday while shopping with my 8 year old nephew who is really getting into reading. Nice selection of books and other items. So why the low score... the customer service! I asked one worker about a book and she seemed clueless about how to find it. I finally suggested she look it up on the device she had in her hand. She did and said the book was available but didn't know how to determine if where the book was or how many copies were available. Another associate came by and they started joking around and finally the other associate mentions the book is on an aisle table and that the associate was using the wrong app to locate items. I grabbed my book and they went back to joking around. While checking out I noticed the books rang up regular price despite there being a sign saying buy one children's graphic novel get second 1/2 price. The associate at the register didn't know so went to another register to check and return's your say this book series was not included. (The sign did not mention any particular series just kids graphic novels). I volunteered to show her the sign but she said she knew the sign and it didn't include this book series- despite moments before she had to look up the sale. Her only remedy was for me to call customer service. I paid for the books and asked if a manager was available. She then calls for the second associate I encountered on the floor who was joking around. This associate looks at her confused as to why she is wanted (I'm guessing she's not really the "manager"). She says they are running so many different sales over the last few days that they can't keep sales correct and then says well we'll take down the sign if that makes you feel better - umm no honoring the sign is actually good customer service! She then proceeds to ask if I want to purchase the books (as the sales clerk has walked away). Umm I already paid for the books and their bagged but not sure why sales clerk has them still behind counter. Overall very poor customer service! read more

The quality of the books is great and they have an amazing selection! I love whenever I go here and I would definitely recommend it. However, sometimes the customer service is a little rough but people will always help you find something. read more

Shopping at Books-A-Million is one of my ZEN experiences !!! I love going into this huge Book store and getting lost. If I won the lottery, I think I would spend a great deal of the winnings here. I love to read and so do my children. They are also Books-A-Million fans. I belong to the points program and carry my discount card to gain points for future discounts on my purchases. The aisles are large and the staff is very helpful..if you can't find it..they can and will. I love this store and when I enter the doorway, I am immediately transformed into a better mood and would like to stay here all day !!! read more

It is a sad sad day in Nashville when the book store offerings (not counting pre-owned books) are so slim. I miss Davis Kidd dearly and even trustworthy Borders dearly. I know that everyone is into the Kindle and iPad versions but I can't seem to buy into the hype as I like nothing more than the smell and flipping pages of a good book. I live on the East-side an rarely make my way to West Nashville so making a stop at Books-A-Million was on the agenda when I ended up in the area. This location is at the end of large shopping center that includes a Target, World Market, and more. The inventory included common fodder such as a novel on The Kennedy's and a fresh Steve Jobs bio. Throw in Snooki's new fare along with a plethora of magazines and a coffee shop and you have a standard Book-A-Million. I was a tad disappointed on the section for the Arts and Fashion but suspect that there isn't a big customer demographic for this type of product at this location. The staff was pretty non-existent throughout our visit as I don't think that I saw an employee in the store with the exception of the cashier and barista? read more

Books-A-Million - Bookstores Near Me - Nashville, Tennessee

I've been in a few times over the years but after my experience today I'll no longer be a customer. A year ago my boyfriend purchased a few books and signed us up for their "Millionaires Club", which came with a $10 gift card. Apparently that day their computers were down and they were unable to issue the regular gift cards. The salesperson working gave him a written one with the $10 amount written in the blank box on the bottom along with an explanation. Today I went in to see if they had anything I'd like to use my gift card on. I settled on a beautiful leather bound journal. I took it up to the register and when I handed the gift card to the cashier he looked at it and in an irritated tone said, "Yeah I understand the verbiage here, but this would've only been good for 30 days anyway", and then quickly threw it away in front of me. I promptly responded, "I think I'm gonna pass on this then because I only came in to use my gift card". Why would any store give out gift cards that are only good for 30 days? I realize that it had been a year since the gift card was given and it was only for $10 but it is the principal of the matter. Instead of honoring their makeshift gift card given out due to THEIR OWN computer systems being down, the condescending older male employee treated me poorly. He didn't bother to ask anyone else working there for a second opinion, didn't seem to care about fixing the situation at all, and the total lack of customer service didn't sit right with me. We will be cancelling our membership for the Millionaires Club and we will never be back. I hope the $10 you saved by denying the gift card is worth the lifetime loss of a customer. read more

I always come here to pick up some magazines and comics. I always able to find the magazine I have in mind. Sometimes I go to BAM to pick up some presents for my friends' kids. When I'm at BAM, most of the time, I am self serve; however whenever I have question or need some help, I find the staffs to be more than helpful and knowledgeable. Sure, they could make the place to feel less cluttered, but as long as things are well organized and the building is clean, I'm happy. read more

Charming book store. Way of the changes of the business model makes it not so crowded. Service is quite good, but prices are obviously retail and higher than the larger on line stores. Love the coffee place. Nashville West is still a mecca for retail at nights and weekends so hopefully BAM will stick around. Frequent Flyer program is still good as long as you buy enough. Plan to buy the card when you have a big load to get the 20 percent the first time. It would be nice to have more places to sit and read and have coffee. You buy the book anyway, it would be nice to take a chair and get a few chapters in before you have to pick up your kid from whatever the seasons practice/rehearsal/school activity. Otherwise, a pretty nice place to learn. Easy parking with the big lot shared by Nashville West. read more

Ok first off, their phone number on here and when you google it is wrong. When I looked on the corporate website after 15 minutes of a non stop ring, I finally got someone on the first ring. 615-352-5254. Second, when I alerted the man who answered the phone that the phone number was wrong on MULTIPLE search engines he didn't seem to care or thank me for letting him know. I let him know the book I was looking for and he told me they didn't have it and then did not offer to order it for me. I really miss Davis Kidd. Thank goodness for McKay and if I need a new release I guess i just hoof it down to Brentwood to BN. read more

This is your run-of- the-mill chain bookstore. It has no character and high prices. Expect to pay "suggested retail" prices for their products. They will try to sell you a $20 a year membership for a 10% discount on books. It seems pointless when you can just drive a few miles up the road to McKay's and get the same books for less than half of what they charge. They did have the cookbook I was looking for and kept it on hold for 3 days. I decided to splurge since I had a gift card. I don't think I'll be back because there are so many more charming, affordable places in the area. read more

I always get great service from the staff. They are friendly and helpful and have a great attitude. I can usually find the books i want. If not they are quick to order for me if I'm in store. The few times that I've had to wait or had issues it was usually equipment issues, which as a retail chain, is oftentimes out of their hands. The staff has always worked hard to find a workaround and make it work for the customer. Overall, I really like this location for their staff. I feel like the location could use more corporate support. I will say the BAM website could use an overhaul. Trying to find out if a store has a book on your mobile is next to impossible. read more

I remember when hanging out in bookstores was cool. In fact, you could spend a full day at Borders and be totally respectable. In fact kids, one might even be able to find a nice young man in a store and start a courtship. Alas, books are a dying breed, at least in paper form and with personal service. Back in bookstore heyday, Books a Million (BAM) was definitely not on my 'list' of chosen bookstores. I was a pretty die hard Davis Kidd and Borders kind of girl. I sort of figured BAM as a clearing house rather than a full selection of current titles. Once everyone of my other go to bookstores closed, I wound up here and was pleasantly surprised. The vibe is much more Borders than I'd imagine, the Joe's coffee is good (at least according to my mom - not much of a coffee drinker here). Staff is friendly without being too obtrusive. That being said, there are no ubber geeks like you could find at Davis and Kidd who knew everything about every author, but they are happy to look things up, and troll around the store finding what you need. There aren't a lot of quiet places to read which is a drag and they are clearly a store designed for buying, not for reading. That being said, they have a great kids books section, tons of magazines and some good picks for beach reads and back to school titles. Prices aren't super cheap, but are usually 10% below what's listed and their 'nick nack' areas on the end caps and at the check out boosts lots of journals, toys, stationary, glasses and quirky gifts from food to pens. Its a great place for Bible hunting too - an entire dedicated to the good book right beside the teen sleaze books ironically enough. I'd love a little more quite and a little less Bible (its one book people - we need a whole row??) but given the slim pickings of stores, I'll keep going back. Tip: Sign up for their 'Frequent Buyer Program for $20 and get 10% off all purchases and 20% off your first purchase' read more

The store itself is okay. What keeps from coming in here more is being pestered to the point of insanity of purchasing their millionaire club membership. Every single time at check-out, the clerk will go on and on about the this. When I say no, it means no. Just tell me how much I owe and let me leave! read more

Customer service is lacking. While trying to ask a question and talk about an exchange, the staff was condescending to a point where I finally just walked away and left. Possibly a lack of training. More likely that she didn't want to be bothered or have to engage in a conversation. Either way, I won't be back. read more

Very happy with the location of this store, much more convenient than B & N at Vanderbilt. I recently bought several children's books for my toddler granddaughter. The staff was very helpful in suggesting books that would be appropriate for her age group. I had to return one book and the refund was handled quickly and efficiently. read more

This is a great place to wonder around and look for a random book to read. They have a great selection and some nice editions of a wide variety of classics. That being said, if you wan to buy a specific book. Buy from their website or amazon. I wasted 30 minutes looking for two books. Their history sections are not organized by title, author, theme or time period. I reached the point of asking a sales associate and they confirmed they had the book I was looking for, but could only narrow down the areas to search for it to one of the 3 history sections. Very disappointing. read more

Ayn Rand book Atlas Shrugged was what I was looking for at the other bookstore, but they were out. Since I was in the neighborhood of Books-A-Million I went in and checked with the nice guy at the counter who took me right to the book I wanted. The ubiquitous coffeebar that is in most midtenn Books-A-Million also makes the cheap store an option. I like the big magazine section which has some titles not found elsewhere. read more

I'm going to start this review with the coffee shop. Because that's where I've been sitting for 15 minutes waiting on my latte. Every single time I order a drink here it takes a lifetime to get. It seems like the coffee bar is understaffed and under trained. It isn't their fault, but it's frustrating as a customer. Every time I tell myself I won't get a drink here again and the next time I come in, I make the same mistake of trying to get a coffee. I only did it this time because there was no one else in line and I figured it would be simple. As soon as I ordered, a line quickly formed and the gentleman behind me had a coupon. The barista couldn't figure out how to use it. Another employee came to help. She couldn't figure out how to use it. Eventually, the man gave up and left. After this, she then had to still help everyone else in line. 15 minutes later, she was finally able to make my drink. Again, I can't blame the staff. She was friendly and apologized. I was kind to her, but internally annoyed. In the time this took, my boyfriend had wandered the store and come back to find me. He told me the selection wasn't great and we may as well just go. I didn't really believe that there was nothing in the store we would want to pick up, so I still wanted to walk around a bit. He was right though. I really didn't see anything worth springing for. I prefer the Murfreesboro location to this one, but this is the one we live closest to. I'm sure we'll wander back in again on some other rainy day, but I know I won't be ordering a coffee. read more

Books-a-Million in Nashville West is a very good bookstore and holds an abundant selection of books, gifts, magazines, and a decent coffee shop. It isn't the best bookstore you will shop at although it is still a good store for what it offers. read more

The sales associate tricked my 15 year old son into taking a magazine offer, He called another sales associate up to ring up my purchases to keep me out of ear shot, and my sons frustrated look told me the sales associate was coercing my son into buying magazines with his credit card. When I got to our vehicle I looked at my 15 year old sons receipt and saw that his credit / debit card information was sent to a magazine rewards center to charge his card to renewal the magazines after the risk free period, it was a automatic renewal. But he told him he had won a free offer, the boy was a minor, this is just evil. I went back into the store to have this corrected was blown off and laughed at, the same thing happen to my daughter when she asked them take the magazine deal off his account. I and my daughter had bought items that night along with my son, they rang up our purchases separately, and our experience was so horrible we will probably never shop there again. The sales associates just sit up at the front of the store no help was offered, and they seemed to take great pleasure in inflecting pain on their customers. Hire honest caring people, and get rid of these thoughtless sales associates that take advantage of 15 year old minors and trick them into signing magazine contracts without their parents' permission. Telling a child that he had won free magazines??? Get some floor staff that comes out and helps the patrons, not just sit up in a cluster at the registers, and glares at the customers. They all were leaning on the counters, waiting to snare their next victim into some scamming magazine contract or membership contract. What? are you paying them commission to do this garbage, they should be selling the products in the store, and helping your patrons. Not a high quality "Davis-Kidds Booksellers" for sure. read more

After Borders and Davis Kidds closed one after the other, I was super happy when BAM opened up near my house (especially since Barnes and Noble is too far away in Oprymills). They have a great selection of books and serve delicious coffee! A nice place to hang out in the summer time. read more

Quaint abundant bookstore. Great place to spend some time finding that perfect book as well as miscellaneous items that are fun!

This place is so stupid. They put all the pregnancy books on the bottom 2 shelves of the Family section. Luckily, I am early on so having to bend down to look at them wasn't a problem. But I did sit down, right up next to the shelf, so I could look through them to see which book I would purchase. I was there for only 10 mins at most and then I had a very rude employee come up to me and tell me to move and that I cannot sit there. So, they put all the pregnancy books on the bottom shelf, and then yell at pregnant woman to move when they are sitting there trying to pick out a book. Don't shop here. Just go to Amazon. read more

After Davis-Kidd closed, Books a Million decided to head-hunt. My story is that I want in for an interview over-qualified. One person announced to my whole former staff that I was hired - another person said "I didn't have enough experience" (12 years doing the exact job as described). Very unprofessionally handled. Not to mention, my interviewer at the Madison location didn't know a lot about books. I'm glad I dodged this experience. read more
