I love this book store in East Nashville! The space is smaller than I'd like - it can sometimes get crowded real quick if there are a handful of other people in there. But it is truly a gem and very well stocked with a lot of great books from different genres. The staff is always so helpful in checking inventory and ordering books for you. I've also done a pre-order for book releases and had a fantastic experience - 20x better than Amazon. I love supporting local bookstores and this is one of the best.

Spent way too much money in here

I loved this adorable little book shop in East Nashville. We were a little early for our dinner reservations and my daughter suggested we pop in here. We quickly lost track of time as we both tend to do in bookstores, because, well, books! If all my dreams came true, I'd own a shop just like this one-colorful and cozy, with books all the way up to the ceiling, well lit with soft ambient, lighting and quirky book lover gifts, puzzles, advent calendars and tons of stationary. I was sad when it was time to leave, but not before I spent a small fortune here. It was worth every penny.

Books, books, beautiful books!!

Just the cutest spot! This shop is little but packs a wallop. The staff are so kind with recommendations! You can shop in store or they have a great website for ordering books for pick-up. It is so important to support local bookstores - even though it can be tempting to get cheap books online. It is just so much more special to buy them from someone who really loves books!! I appreciate that The Bookshop is so supportive of the Nashville nonprofit community - they host a Second Sunday fundraiser every month that donates 10% of their sales to a local nonprofit. What a generous practice! It makes shopping on those days feel even better because you get to support local and support nonprofits. Thank you, The Bookshop!

Great bookshop in East Nashville. Packed full of many new and interesting titles. Several non book gift items as well.

Such a cute aesthetic bookstore. I love that they are connected to a coffeeshop. Highly recommend for a chill day of browsing books with a delicious beverage.

The woman working was wonderful. The place is very small and at first I was disappointed but once I started looking around I fell in love. It's so well curated I wanted almost every book I touched. Really thoughtful and impressive selection of books. Many gorgeous gift books too. There's a coffee shop next door which is lovely also.

Great book selection, wonderfully organized, bright space- a wonderful place to stretch your brain.

As a lover of indy bookstores, this is a gem. Smallish but so well stocked! Well curated selection of poetry too.

Such a sweet book store! So welcoming and neighbors with a coffee shop! Match made in heaven! They handled my preorder so easily and communicated effectively- can't wait to come back!

Love the aesthetic and has a good selection of classics and trendy books! Next time I want to try the blind book in a bag, that looked exciting. Check this place out!

The shelves are filled with a large selection of books, all organized by genre. There's a section for stationery, puzzles, totes, and other fun things as well! While you're there you may see one of the many shop dogs they have as well! Parnassus is very involved in the community. They host events like author talks and book clubs. They have lots of book signings too. Just a great spot!

I have been here in the past but came over the weekend with my kids. They have a cute kids section where you can sit and read books. The employees were all helpful, kind and patient with my young family. They were having a book reading event the night we were there that looked like it would be a fun time. It's a small locally owned bookstore and the prices reflect that. Not surprising for a small bookstore but it's very progressive. Something to note if bringing in kids.

The daughter being done with her Master's program at Vanderbilt was looking for a place to…read moreoffload/sell her nursing textbooks. She found McKay's online and it seemed to be the best place to do that. Wow -- we were not prepared for the massiveness of this super, super busy place! Being our first time and not knowing how it all worked, it didn't take us long to figure out where to go and what to do. There wasn't much of a line when we started. We placed her books in a bin, then waited to be called by a greeter. Our greeter quickly explained the process, gave the daughter a claim ticket, then we waited. In the 40 minutes it took for her claim number to come up on the screen, we were able to walk through most of the sections and pick out a couple things to buy. I was quite surprised to find so many things beyond books -- DVDs, VHS, vinyl records, CDs, cassette tapes, clothing, Pokémon cards, instruments, game consoles, accessories, Legos, toys, comic books, etc. It was seriously amazing. My daughter decided to take her sale in trade which gave her about 50% more to spend. For the books they didn't buy she was given the option to take them back or donate them there. She chose to donate. The husband loves old movies, art and music -- he will absolutely enjoy McKay's. I can't wait to bring him here! The parking lot is as massive, so I don't think there's ever an issue with that.

I was so excited to get back to McKay's for the first time in years. I was completely taken aback…read moreby the prices of books here now. Many books I found were overpriced for used books. There's no pricing system based on book condition, which would be nice. You may find a book in fair condition and pay the same amount for the same book in excellent condition. Customer service was great as always.

Oh my goodness, how I love this store! It brings me such joy that real brick and mortar bookstores…read morestill exist, even though they are extremely few and far between. I grew up an avid reader, and as a pre-teen I remember begging my parents to take me to the local Barnes & Noble on a Saturday night. Looking back I'm sure they were so relieved that's where I wanted to hang out, so it makes sense now why they took me nearly every time. It's just a special place and feeling to be in a store surrounded by imagination and basically anything you wish to explore. Happy to learn that there is a surviving store in Cool Springs near where I work. I come here on my lunch break about once a month. Even if I don't buy, it's great to walk the aisles and see what is available. The staff is kind, encouraging of everyone to explore. They keep it very clean. Huge parking lot. You won't find me with any negative comments. Please stay open forever!

I have been here on more than one occasion solely for the café, but I do find myself wandering the store browsing for a good book from time to time. Service is beyond friendly, and they are always so helpful! I legit look lost each time I go in, so I ask for directions and they make sure I get to where I am going in the store. Overall, cool to still have Barnes & Noble brick and mortars around, especially this location!
