This place is the greatest! If you're looking for a beautiful, welcoming independent bookstore with a great layout full of so many great options: this is the place for you. I love the vibe here. The booksellers are all SO authentically friendly that I walk away with a smile on my face every visit. Parnassus is so great for the community with all the events they host. I think that's my favorite part! They've also got a bunch of signed books in store, too!

Parnassus books embodies the iconic bookstore image - neatly organized stacks, tall shelves with rolling ladders, and kind staff members. I was greeted warmly when I arrived (even a few minutes before closing!) and easily found what I was looking for. I didn't have time to wander the aisles this time around, but I will definitely do so next time and hopefully find my new favorite read.

This bookstore is in a shared plaza and parking can be limited when busy. Loved the bookstore from the moment I walked in. Each book genre is well marked and I liked the bookclub section. You can definitely find all the latest releases. These are all new books. The service was friendly and lovely. The only issue was finding the correct entry point to get in the check out line and I noticed I wasn't the only one to get in the wrong line.

A great book store worth browsing when you're in Nashville! Loved the local author section, cute children's area, and the great selection of books. Can't wait to stop in again next time we're in town!

Gorgeous independent bookstore! Every employee was friendly and helpful. Such a huge selection in so many genres and lots of bookish items to choose from. The children's section is dim and cozy with a small little kid size entrance. It's so inviting and makes the choices intriguing. There is a good size stage where they hold many author events and seem very organized for special event orders. Ann Patchett has a section of signed books as she is one of the owners. I highly recommend Parnassus books if you live in or are visiting Nashville!

A Nashville gem!! Parnassus Books is so special and we are so lucky to have them here. The book selection is great and anything that you cannot find there can be ordered online. I know that it can be tempting to get very cheap books from online retailers, but it is so important to support local bookstores. I always appreciate that the Parnassus staff is there to provide recommendations and love that they always have a staff recommendations shelf set up. I appreciate that they have so many community offerings as well - author talks, book clubs, story time, and nonprofit shopping nights. It has become a place that I take visitors and everyone loves visiting! I hope that they stay a Nashville institution for a very long time.

You've just flown in to Nashville. What's the first thing you do? If you're a word nerd you head to Parnassus. That is exactly what we did on a recent trip. THIS IS THE BEST BOOK STORE I HAVE EVER VISITED. I think my luggage was overweight on the flight home because of all the books I bought. Of course, every Ann Patchett book in the story is signed by the author but there's a ton of other author signed books for sale (I'm sure b/c of her connections). There are a lot or local authors but I was also able to pick up a first-edition signed copy of Tommy Orange's latest book. I found books and books that I coveted no matter where I looked in the stacks. The staff was great and so helpful. There was an author talk and book signing after closing and they allowed us to stay. I would be a member of every single one of their book clubs if I lived in Nashville. Make this a tourist stop!

I LOVED this book store! This was our first tourist stop in Nashville because of Ann Patchett fan girling! It's beautiful inside with a huge selection of books and gifts. Incredible deals because of so many signed books by lots of different authors. Very nice and very passionate staff. We happened to be there right before an evening book signing/author talk, so we stayed. It was awesome to get to hear from two romance authors and pick up signed copies of their new books! I can't wait to read the armload that I bought. Love love!

So this is a massive bookstore, music store, video store, toy store that specializes in buying used items and reselling them. So if you have an aversion to musty dirty used items, this is not your place. Which I happen to have. However, this is not McKay's fault. It is a great place to offload things you don't need and get a little cash on the side. I have a touch of sensory bias, which is why it's difficult for me to enjoy it. But I totally understand why others do. If you are planning on selling stuff, make sure you get there early. If not, when they open there will be a line not of people wanting to sell stuff just people wanting to get in there to check out anything new that came in the night before. It is always busy so do not expect to come and it not be packed. If that is an issue for you probably not your place. But a big plus is the parking lot is absolutely massive. You will find a parking spot regardless of how busy it is. And to that I give it five stars.

There's no pricing system based on book condition, which would be nice. You may find a book in fair condition and pay the same amount for the same book in excellent condition. Customer service was great as always.

Pricing placement inconsistent. Some are written inside the cover. Some are on stickers stuck to the cover. Leather bound books in antique cases and stacks of old maps facing external windows and exposed to direct sunlight Clerk was loudly speculating on what another customer might have stolen or damaged the second he left after speaking to them. Came up besides me to peer out the windows muttering as she wondered which way he went. Owner loudly speaking at length on the phone about the brilliance of Confederate general Nathan Bedford Forrest, famous ignorant brute. Audible from every part of the store. Children's books were only kept in the furthest sections from the door and counter, on the top two shelves. Shelves and sections poorly marked. I asked the clerk where I could find anything by Robert E. Howard. She said she didn't know where anything was in here and brought me to ask the owner. When I asked where to find anything by Robert Howard, he just sneered at me and asked what kind of author that was. I explained he was a fantasy and historical fiction author and contemporary of Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose works I had been able to find. The owner waved me away and said at the end of the aisle there were a few fantasy books but he usually doesn't keep that kind of thing. We were standing next to a leather bound collection of stories of the Knights of the Round Table. When I got to the directed section, there was a single hardback collection of Harry Potter stacked neatly and a few produce boxes of 1965-1985 pulp science fiction novels, mostly missing their covers, haphazardly stacked on top of each other and bending and warping the books underneath. The shelf next to it was empty. Ends of shelves were crowded with printed out memes taped up in place, some self-congratulatory about being one of the few people in this day and age who still read, some fart jokes, some complaining about President Biden, and some suggesting that there were more white slaves captured and brought from Persia than black slaves brought from Africa. They have a lot of old and rare books, yes, but they don't take care of them, do not preserve collections consistently, do not sort their books into accessible formats, and do not provide a welcoming environment for incoming patrons.
