I missed my interview and attempted to call and talk to someone because I was going to miss it because it was raining and very cold outside. I don't particularly appreciate driving in the rain, and I wasn't going to go anywhere that day because I had issues with driving in the rain, and no one picked up. I went in yesterday and apologized for missing my interview. I was searching for an ESV Study Bible, and when I asked for help, the lady I asked was rude and said to give her just a moment, then never came back with someone who could help me. She was rude by ignoring my request for help but was willing to help others in the store, and when I went to report it to the GM of the store, she snapped at me, saying that she was a manager herself and that she was going to get her GM to let her know that I was there. There was no reason to get the GM at all. Just let me shop in peace. All I wanted to do was get a Bible that I could study from with my church. Well, fast forward to check out. I had helped someone find a Bible because I had to go to a fellow customer for help. After all, no one who worked in the store had experience in different Translations of the Bible, and now I'm not allowed to help fellow Christians find a Bible even when I'm asked for help. They were completely rude to me the entire time I was there. It took me 2 hours to find a Bible that spoke to me. I got home and decided to return the Bible I got today. I am extremely upset by this encounter. The GM of the store said that I "disrespected" them by missing my interview, but they were the ones who didn't answer the phone when I went to decline the interview because it was freezing and raining respectfully. I could not keep the Bible I bought because I couldn't afford it, but I feel like I can't return to the store because I'm always asked for help in the Bible Section as I know the Bible translations and what to find in them. She also said that I was stepping on the customer service employees' toes by helping other Christians in the store find a Bible that spoke to them. I am constantly in there helping other customers to help them out, and they sat there and told me that I couldn't do that anymore but weren't willing to help me when I needed it. They helped others in the store but hovered over my shoulder to ensure I wasn't doing anything wrong. I don't appreciate being ostracized by the workers because I missed my interview. I will not be returning to the store. read more

I have to say, I'm a little underwhelmed with this store. I'm usually pretty good at navigating my way around a bookstore, but their layout of the sections is terribly odd and confusing. I had to make several rounds throughout before I could locate the various sections I was looking for. Yes, I know I could have asked a staff member, but I generally like to avoid bothering anyone unless I really need help and I'm a bit too proud to ever claim that I need help in a bookstore. The store is clean and there were plenty of staff working, but there was a healthy 20-30 minutes before anyone acknowledged me. At no time was I ever asked if I needed help locating any item. I'm not sure how busy their cafe is, but I used to work in a bookstore and never have I seen the cafe employee(s) sitting down and reading. There's usually SOMETHING to do. Then again, if they are truly not busy at all, perhaps that's just the norm. I was a little disappointed at the lack of sale pricing? At competitor stores, it seems like new releases are generally granted at least a 20% discount off of the list price. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I should have gone to the competitor, right? Whatever. I was where I was and it's not that big of a deal to me, but I'm just noting for others that other booksellers likely have better prices. I'll likely return to the store, as the shopping center has a lot of fast-casual dining options that I like, but I'll probably do a bulk of my book shopping elsewhere. read more

I'm surprised to read the other reviews for this store. This Books-A-Million location is pretty average compared with other such locations. If you've been in one BAM, you've been in them all. That said, here are my thoughts on this location: Fine selection, though somewhat clumsily organized. Excellent inventory of gift merchandise for various fandoms. Some of their merchandise if pretty overpriced for what you get, but on the flipside, they mark things down quite often, and always have a well-stocked clearance area. This location has a cafe. Friendly, helpful, and accommodating staff. Two instances to prove the last point: 1) Once when my daughter asked for eggnog (they had eggnog lattes on the menu), the staff sold her a cup of eggnog instead of a latte despite the fact that it was not a menu item. 2) When I wanted to unwrap a plastic-sealed display book to examine the interior before purchasing, the cashier paused, then got permission from his manager, and I was able to confirm that the book had the quality glossy pages I required before buying. The location is conveniently close to the nearby movie theater, making this a nice place for teens to mill around after watching a movie. Also, if you're a teacher, don't forget to enroll in their teacher discount program which is free and provides a 15% discount off all merchandise. read more

Does anyone work at this store? Especially on a Saturday the weekend after Thanksgiving...the answer is no. The name of the store is kinda funny as yes there are some books but it's mostly toys and random trinkets..fun stuff to look at I guess but not to really purchase. We went in there for books and yes they had what we were looking for. However when we walked in, there were no employees in the front of the store greeting customers. There were no employees period. Thankfully I found my books quickly with no needed help but many other customers were looking around for help and not one person to be found. Customers ended up helping each other. It was a group effort. We were ready to purchase the books, so after about 30 minutes of browsing without seeing a single employee, one would assume that they were so busy at the register that they couldn't possibly help customers. Wrong again. No employees at the register either. We waited...we looked around..we saw the same customers wandering looking for assistance..we waited longer. 15 minutes later..customers started leaving, we put our stuff down on the front counter and starting walking out. We had spent about 45 minutes in a store shopping and waiting for assistance, when a girl walks across the store and says "ready to check out?" Yeah we WERE 15 minutes ago..her response "I am on break." If she was the only one working in an giant store like that, then that is terrible management and plus a safety issue. No apology from the girl, just a rude attitude about how she was leaving her break early to help us. No thanks we will shop else where like Target where the books are cheaper and they actually have employees. No sale BAM! read more

First, I like BAM stores or I would have given them 2 stars. But that being said, I have noticed lately that at bookstores like Books A Million, and others, that there is so much solicitation. Like yesterday at checkout: 1. Will you be using your BAM discount card No 2. Would you like to hear about the BAM card No 3. Would you like a free magazine subscription No 4. Would you like to donate a dollar to the Oklahoma tornado fund No 5. Would you complete the survey to get a coupon for when you spend more money at BAM? I have an idea....how about I give them money and they give me the book? Yeesh! I don't need the person to berate me about all of this at checkout. No wonder Amazon is killing these brick and mortar stores. Take it down a notch! read more
