Such a refreshing store to walk into! We were not planning on looking for any books today, but there was a wait at the unplugged game restaurant. While on the waitlist, we wandered into this little bookshop, and I was instantly impressed. They were fantastic titles on display, and the owner is very obviously knowledgeable about books for all ages. She helped each of my kids, find two books, and said she was happy to order any books that we did not have in the store. It was one of the best bookstore experiences I have had in many years! The Little Bookshop was one of our destinations on Independent Bookstore Day, and it was our first time visiting. We were pleased with the selection, even on a super busy Saturday (plus it was a special event day). The staff was very kind and seemed to know a lot about their merchandise. The prices were all for new books, so full price. We usually thrift or buy our books second hand, so we only got one while there- that would be my only qualm, that I think they should have a used section as well! I came to check this place out back about a week after it opened. What a true gem! During my visit, a handful of others came in just to check it out, and we all left thoroughly impressed and won over. Everyone was singing the praises and excitedly vowing to return soon. The owner has such great enthusiasm and is such a warm, welcoming, passionate woman. She is everything you'd want in a bookstore owner. She was so happy to share about her store, help with locating items, and talk about the books she loves. I just found her to be such a sweet, endearing person. She happily shared with me her affinity for gerbil versions of classic books, so you will find plenty of those. The shop itself is bright, well-organized, and full of so many literary treasures. I cannot imagine a more skillfully curated selection of books. You can just feel the passion as you peruse the shelves. There was such a great variety and in the nonfiction section, you will find a very heavy focus on all things global, be it travel or memoirs of people who have endured socio-political struggles or persecution abroad. The travel books were not your ordinary but were all fresh, exciting, and intriguing. There was really just a focus on cultural studies period, which was amazing for me. The history selection was great, with a particularly impressive local history section, including a very intriguing book on the Price Edward County integration resistance. The cookbook section was equally impressive, with a wide array of books on new American or healthy eating, and not the annoying fad diet type, but actual good cooking. The list of treasures to be found here is just far too extensive to even convey. This is the epitome of the ideal local bookshop. This right here is what local looks like. The Little Bookshop is such a true wonderworld for any reader. Go here and you will surely be convinced of the value of the local bookshop over any chain. While the prices may be a bit higher than some faceless online competitors, this right here is worth protecting and worth supporting. I cannot say enough how impressed I was with this place. If you can read, whether you do it often or not, just go. You will find something to pique your curiosity and get you interested in reading again; I assure you. This is the perfect bookstore for when you're shopping for someone and are unsure about what to get them. The owner loves books and if you give her some feedback on books someone likes, she is able to make wonderful suggestions about what else they might want to read. I LOVE this shop and am so excited we have a local bookstore in Midlothian! I've shopped here several times since the store opened last Fall and every experience has been wonderful!! All the staff are very friendly and very knowledgeable about books, both the latest releases and older books. They have wonderful cards on the shelves with reviews from readers, not just from the publishers, which is great. It adds such a personal touch!! I've bought books and gift items here and they've been so helpful in listening to my interests (or those of the gift recipient) and recommending books. So far they are 100% accurate in their selections for me!! And they have a frequent shopper rewards program too! And the best part about that is their computer system tracks it so I don't have to try to keep up with another card, which is inevitably lost somewhere in my wallet!! I don't have little ones at home these days but I hear from others that their story hour is awesome too! Really, you should just go check out The Little Bookshop!!! read more
