Cute store on the main strip of East Hampton. This was also the only store I could really afford to shop in out here, so I made the most of it by perusing the beach read section. I was happy to find a diverse offering of authors and genres, as well as picks that were more tailored to Hampton folks which were fun to look through as well. Staff was friendly and accommodating, and happy to make recommendations based on what you were in the mood for or authors you'd liked previously. Value wise the prices weren't all that bad, and were pretty on par with what you'd find if you were to order online through Amazon. I loved the cute paper bags and free bookmark that comes with your purchase, it was a nice touch. Overall, would definitely recommend stopping in here if you love to read! read more

You'd think discrimination wouldn't exist in 2025 until you walk into this store. one of my friends was having an ice cream cone and prior to even walking in she asked within the group "do you think Im able to eat this inside?" We didn't see a sign outside so we took the chance. As soon as we step inside (this was on March 29th around 1-2pm) the blonde lady in there immediately gave us an attitude and in such condescending tone told us she couldn't have her ice cream inside because they dont "typically" (as she rolled her eyes) let anyone in with food. My friend proceeds to wait outside whilst the rest of us are shopping. A white male walked in a mere few minutes after us with a full cone and she said NOTHING. He was able to finish the entire ice cream cone inside the store. I quickly approached her and her response was "I can't watch everyone." but we immediately knew what she'd done. The store is small and there weren't that many people in there. I am very unhappy with the service at this place and will make sure to write reviews everywhere that I can. read more

As far as book stores go, this shop has a diverse selection of both paperback and hardcover. It's an adorable little shop in this tony town. The employees were friendly without being pushy. It was very busy but not crowded. If you forgot your book, stop by this shop to pick one up for you or the kids. They have a nice selection of kids books, too. Not a place to relax, like how major book sellers have lounges or chairs. But I would definitely come back here to shop small and support a local business. read more

Great bookstore with a great layout and vibe, but what's even better is the customer service. I was looking for a specific book, and emailed them to see if they have it in stock. I received a response in less than an hour letting me know they don't have it, but they will order it and let me know when its in the store. Whats more satisfying than getting face to face interaction and service is the fact that you are supporting a local business. Thanks to Jesse and the rest of the staff for being so helpful in getting me the books I was looking for. Fantastic business with fantastic service! read more

I took a short trip into the Hamptons to run a race with my cousin, who grew up in the area. I saw this bookstore one night and was bummed that they were closed because they had cute children's books in the window. I made a point to go back the next day and check out the store. We were greeted as soon as we entered the store (this didn't happen anywhere else we shopped around here). The store was well stocked and well organized. I was looking for a book to bring home for my daughter, but I would definitely be able to find something for myself if I had more time. We stumbled upon this super cute little book store while on a day trip Saturday March 14th 2020 ~ As we are avid readers and we were wanting to pick up a few books for our trip; we trotted right in!! Only to be greeted with ~ are you actually shopping or just looking greeting from the dude working :/ (this is NOT an over exaggeration) I was taken aback and thought...hmm...this can't be right. Why would an employee of ANY store ask customers if they were actually going to make a purchase as a greeting. My very diplomatic daughter responded with "were looking" and I quickly said "a purchase isn't off the table" ~ however by then the energy was off. As a business owner myself I try to support local shops as much as possible; so we poked around for about 15mins and I really really wanted to buy a few different things ~ but totally felt so unwelcome by both the staff members (whom were just talking amongst themselves; one cleaning the back counter and the other was just behind the register area) that we finally just left. Honestly there was zero engagement on their part. It was deeply disturbing and I just thought to myself ~ WOW ~ apparently they don't want our business. Honestly if the owner of this business actually reads these reviews I hope you take into consideration the unnecessary negativity given by your staff members. I expected a bit better service. Don't crawl up my ______ but don't ignore me and ask me if I'm going to make a purchase right when I walk in the door instead of saying HELLO. I felt like a 3 was applicable rating because the shop was so cute, pricing was more than fair but the service wasn't worth it. Why spend my money where I'm going to be treated so poorly. Just didn't make sense. He didn't care if I bought anything or not and if you have so much business that you're turning people away ~ so be it. But that didn't seem to be the case as the shop was completely empty aside from my daughter & myself. read more

Okay multi location chain book store in East Hampton has a respectable variety of books at "Hamptons" prices. This location is one of my favorites because it's bigger and has more selection. Biggest complaint is the nearly non existent travel section. The staff here are actually helpful. It's no Barnes & Noble but since you won't find those here, this book shop will have to do. read more

Book Hampton is a very charming shop with a diverse and appealing selection, especially impressive given the small space. However, I must say we were treated very rudely. The shopkeepers were clearly not excited to see my 2-year-old son and asked if I needed help "with him". They offered up a book that was more appealing to my friend's 9-month-old and shepherded my son to a corner. They also asked my friend (who was nibbling a muffin) to wipe her hands before touching anything, as though she were also a child (I appreciate the need to protect their inventory but it was just weird). The icing on the cake was when I asked for assistance finding a book and one employee walked right by me without eye contact, grumbling "be with you in a minute" (I would have thought she hadn't heard me without that acknowledgment) and then returned from the back and continued to ignore me until she was directed by another employee to find me the book. I am usually a huge proponent of independent booksellers but at this point I would have walked out if there were anywhere else to buy this book within 10 miles. I am sure Book Hampton is an asset to the neighborhood but I could have done with a little less attitude. read more

Over the last 13 years, I've likely dropped THOUSANDS of dollars at this place. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. My issue is with whoever curates the selection of books at any of their locations... (I was told it was the owner). This may sound crazy, but I vote Republican. I know, I know, WTF am I doing in East Hampton right? Let's move on.... What drives me crazy about this place is how the owner makes available hundreds of copies of The Occupy Wall Street Journal (some extreme leftist "magazine" that looks like it was printed out of one of those cheap printers). It's front and center at the door when you walk in. Meanwhile, they BOTTOM SHELF every NY Times Bestseller that has a 1% of conservatism in between it's covers. It's insulting. Listen, it's not like I wanna go join a rally, or watch a taping of a Glen Beck Show, but I might want to read a few books that discuss a philosophy I support. Do I really have to bend down into a downward dog move to get a copy of Milton Friedman's Capitalism & Freedom? Or how many times are the books just turned around so no one can see the cover? (I've seen this a hundred times here... Bill O'Reilly, they really don't want you here) I'm a local business owner, and not one of my customers knows what political side I'm on, because you end up alienating at least 50% of your customers. It's just not smart. Or nice to your paying customers. All we want, is to read what we want to read. What's the problem? The owner is also known for complaining very loudly about Amazon killing her business. FREE TIP: How about you don't anger 50% of your customers.... Amazon doesn't care about my politics. read more

These stores are really a local treasure. I stopped in last night to browse for a few minutes while my children were in another store. It's been the same experience as long as I can recall. Someone always asks if he or she can help as soon as you walk in. They are always happy to help find a book and will really engage on what you like to read and make interesting and often unexpected recommendations. I bought 3 books last night based on the 'staff picks' they had on display, two of which were completely new to me; this trust in their recommendations has never disappointed. In an era of crowd sourcing and big data analytics this is a rare expression of the book seller's art. If you are a pre-millennial, this will be a pleasant reminder of what buying a book used to be, enjoy. If you came of age after the era of Amazon and generic book superstores, stop in and find out how good customer service can be. read more

This morning I was on a book Hamptons website I was looking at a book called Italian mosaics it's listed on their website for $150 so instead of doing it on the Internet I called the store well they don't have the book however they do advertising on their website that's false advertising and I do not plan on using book Hampton again their false advertising. read more

Old fashioned local bookstore, where the staff actually knows the inventory and can give you helpful suggestions and discuss books! We came here in the winter, and were surprised by a famous celebrity guest reader (who apparently comes very frequently!). Staff managed the high profile guest well, keeping things orderly for photos and book signing. Great customer service and professional. We enjoyed our time browsing here. read more

BookHampton is one of my all time favorite book stores. The have a great inventory, and if they don't have it they can order it which is really nice, if you don't need the book on the spot (it can take a week or so for the book to come in, in my experience) The staff is (shockingly) well read, even the younger summer help! Unlike the previous reviewer, I've never really experienced them being rude, although they are pretty strict with the no food, no beverages rule. And as a mother of 2 small children, I can say whole heartedly that they have been nothing by wonderful with my kids! I do miss the couches and upstairs from the old location, but BookHampton still manages to be cozy and welcoming. In particular the shaved head gentleman (I think the manager) always has great recommendations and I love the young blonde woman who helps the kids. Pay attention to the notecards on the books, a charming touch that makes browsing so enjoyable. Please stay BookHampton! We love you! read more
