My parents live closer to the Barnes & Noble, but we were staying at the Darling, so I told my husband we had to go here and support local when we had an hour to kill. We usually have to be pried out of bookstores after hours perusing, but here: we were in and out in less than 10 minutes, because there was such a small selection for adults. It seemed the bulk of the store was devoted to kids--I hope the kids of Visalia are keeping this place going, because dang. I've found a better selection of books at thrift shops, if I'm being honest. Maybe they do a booming order business or online? But being downtown, I was bummed there was such a slim selection.

I was welcomed when I walked in and asked if I needed assistance, which was nice -- although that friendly greeting hasn't always happened on past visits. I was looking for Louis L'Amour books as a gift for my husband, and they pointed me in the right direction. I also browsed through the kids' section for a bit, though I didn't end up finding anything this time. Overall, it's a 2 story shop with lots to explore. It's unbelievable how much she fits in the space. She hosts book events, usually with a food truck or two and other vendors. I could go on and on about the gift type things they carry. I've also bought gift certificates. Most recently I messaged her and she had it ready for me when I stopped by on my way to the office. They also carry cards so it was perfect! A great example of small business customer service. I highly recommend Bookish and recommend following them on IG for events, specials, etc.

The staff have always been super helpful and friendly, and didn't make me feel unwelcome at all. I loved seeing the other gaming supplies they have, especially the retro consoles and games. It's very small (about 500 sqft, 2 rooms of books) with a jazzercise studio in the back. They have nice antique settees in both rooms. $2 for paperback and $4 for hardcover. The guy in the front was very kind. Since they have a jazzercise studio in the back, I think they should do speakeasy events there for book lovers since they have a nice enclosed parking- Bridgeton High Tea..., twilight dinners...A You marathon... Hunger Games costume party.... crafting with books.. I've never read Twilight, but since I was just in Oregon, I have to read or watch the twilight series now, but they did not have the book. They take donations so if anyone wants to donate twilight, lemme know! I had exactly $6 cash so I got myself a C.I.A. cookbook (Culinary Institute of America) because I collect cookbooks. Anthony Bourdain, Roy Choi (I ate at his restaurant, Best Friend in Las Vegas) & Grant Achatz (I dream of one day eating at his Michelin Starred restaurant, Alinea in Chicago) graduated from C.I.A. I also got a brand new paperback from Target- Love, Naturally. I am a little behind on my reading because life has taken me on a hell of a ride this year.
