The last time I went to France was when I was in middle school over 40 years ago. One thing that always stuck with me was the food. It's what the French are known for. Equally known is the cafe culture and the otherworldly pastries. To say it's hard to find a decent bakery outside of the perimeter is an understatement. Just my opinion, but I am tough on most bakeries because I have been to parts of the world that have the best. This was the first time that my wife and I have been to Bonnins Bakery. We started our perfect Saturday morning here. The place was bustling. The crowd was lively. You could feel the excitement to be next. The displays were so inviting and clearly just from the looks of what they offered and the smells inside the cafe (OMG!) you know immediately that this place is legit. The service was incredible. The selections were authentic. If it's your first time, you need something on a baguette and some sort of croissant selection. Just trust me. There is nothing better in a 20 mile radius. Don't forget the coffee. Absolute perfection. And pretty. The whole experience was sublime. I will spend the next month (or more) of Saturdays here. Don't miss this place!!

Raspberry macaroon

Absolutely phenomenal! Where do I even start, from the French onion soup all the way to the simple macaroon I haven't a single complaint! The area, where you can sit and have your dessert or mails is very cute. The ambience is nice with a little couch for her, just sitting a big table in the corner with a bench style seat, and also a water station with cold water and glasses. The French onion soup had a great tasting broth, which is the most important to me. I've had French onion soup, many places, and typically my favorite is at a Disney Epcot French restaurant, but this was just as good. Me and my granddaughter visited after I had an appointment in Kennesaw, decided to have lunch here. We didn't know what to expect really but upon arrival we were greeted with smiles by the two young ladies at the front counter and they were quick to answer any questions we had. We both had soup. I tried a Valentine special, which was a rather large raspberry macaroon filled with a white cream and fresh raspberries in it was so so good. I couldn't recommend that enough. She loves macaroons and I will say these were some of the best We've had anywhere. We did take a bag at home a couple of croissants and also tried a couple other desserts. Everything as I said it was phenomenal. We visited again this week. It's about a 45-50 minute drive for us but well worth it. Last week I got a loaf of the fresh made sourdough bread. They sliced it for me and I had it for breakfast every morning and it was absolutely great.! This will become a regular for us. I can't wait to take other others in to experience all that they offer.

Strawberry croissant and pain au chocolat from Bonnin's Bakery.

I have visited Bonnin's Bakery three times now and each visit has been excellent! The croissants are absolutely incredible - they have amazing lamination and so many textures. Crisp outside, soft inside, tangy yet sweet homemade strawberry filling...truly the best croissants I have ever had. The chocolate pain is also delicious and the ham and cheese pastries reheat nicely for lunch. The employees are very friendly and helpful and knowledgeable about ingredients (such as hidden tree nuts). The seating area is pleasant with free ice water available. I highly recommend stopping in!

Neat and clean. Service was quick. Food was delicious. Got the strawberry brioche and cinnamon rolls. They weren't overly sweet which was great. I'll definitely be back to try some other stuff.

Trés Bien!

This place is magnifique! The best French pastries I've had in Atlanta. And believe me I have done the leg work. Don't leave without getting a baguette! Their brioche is perfect! They do it all right!

Beignets

Stopped by on my way to my neices track meet. This was a cute little spot. There was a section for sittinf but I picked up my order to go. I picked up some beignets, strawberry croissant, a ham & swiss croissant and a hazelbut latte. Everything we good and seemed fresh. Service was good. The ham & swiss croissant was my favorite. I wasnt too much of a fan of the latte. It was mostly milk and ice and just wasnt my personal favorite. The strawberry croissant was my first time trying. It was very buttery and had a lovely strawberry's filling. The beignets has a really good soft texture but tasted more like a chinese donut than a beignet in my opinion. This is close by and we will be back to try some of their other items.

Wonderful French pastries

We had jambon-beurre (ham and Swiss cheese, butter on baguette) and quiche Lorraine with green salads (the Dijon vinaigrette was delicious). The pastries are beautiful and delicious . This place is a must!

And they were preparing for their weekly stand at the Marietta Square Market that happens every Saturday (little silent plug to let you know where to else to find them). So, let's gooo! THE ATMOSPHERE: It's a nice, kept, and quaint atmosphere. The aroma itself takes you to another pleasant place. Definitely mood lifting. Clean! (I don't know if there's a bathroom...never got passed the cookies! ) THE SERVICE: Again, I had the pleasure of talking to the managing partner. She gave me the history of how she became a partner, how Sugar Shane started, their stand at the market, and how that location was their first in-store. And if I can add...they need to go viral!! These thangs were GOODT! FOOD: Because I came from Asian Fusion, I was full. But couldn't resist. I had the chocolate chip and brown sugar cookie! The signature brown sugar!!! IT WAS BREATH-TAKING/TASTING!! Both cookies were big in size and heavy. Definitely worth the cost and experience. They have so much more on their menu, I'm not doing them justice because I was unable to eat ANOTHER THING! So...take me at my word or don't, but what you definitely need to do is run on over to Sugar Shane's and see for yourself!

For the best in the cake business in the Atlanta area, look no further than Lush Cakery! I…read moretypically never, ever care for wedding cakes... They're usually nothing special. But cakes from this shop are crowd-favorites! Everyone at my wedding raved about the cake, even months later people still brought it up. I highly recommend this business.

Jordan recommended Lush Cakery to my fiancee and me (our planner does not accept kickbacks, but instead passes on any discounts she may get on to us) and that is enough praise for me. My fiancee, through her own research, noticed that Lush Cakery has had a hand in a lot of nice weddings in Atlanta. She absolutely loves the look of Lush's cakes (she describes them as beautiful, fun, and creative). I asked Kat how many weddings she did last year and she told me, if I recall correctly, 185 (all by herself!). She doesn't plan on doing that many per year going forward, but she definitely has the experience and is well known in the Atlanta wedding community. Kat moved into a cute space just off Marietta Square a couple years ago. There's a retail space, open four days a week, and a tasting room, available by appointment only. The shop can also be booked for small events like bridal and baby showers. Kat was waiting for us promptly at our appointment time. My fiancee and I were accompanied by our planner for the tasting. The tasting room was quaint and charming. It reminded my fiancee of an attractive sitting room, like something you would see on HGTV. We got to know Kat and she got to know us. She let us swipe through cake designs on her iPad while talking to us about our wedding, our tastes/visions for our cake, and how our cake would align with our wedding overall. For example, we talked about the season of our wedding, whether it's going to be indoor or outdoor, etc. These kinds of things can affect the ingredients and flavors of our wedding cake. There was a menu at the table with Lush's most popular wedding cake flavors. We tasted the following six flavors: * Salted caramel * Amaretto white chocolate red raspberry * Triple chocolate hazelnut * Grand Marnier strawberries and cream * Cinnamon * Cream cheese pound with lemon curd Kat had the first five flavors in the list above ready to go on a plate for each of us. The last one was requested by my fiancee who was interested in trying the lemon curd after seeing it on the menu. My eyes lit up as I bit into these cakes. What impressed me most about them was actually not their flavor, but their consistency. Every single slice was perfectly fluffy and moist. They were tender and delicate with good crumb. Flavor-wise, they were sweet, but not too sweet. My favorite flavors were the salted caramel and the strawberries and cream. My fiancee's favorite flavors were the amaretto white chocolate red raspberry and the triple chocolate hazelnut. My fiancee thought both the strawberry and cinnamon tasted delicious, but were a little too simple for her tastes. The cream cheese pound cake with lemon curd was outstanding, but we agreed that we liked the lighter, less dense textures of the other cakes for our wedding cake. Everything we tried tasted great, so what it really came down to here was personal preference. We want a classic, elegant looking cake so Kat suggested a traditional three-tier round cake. We'll have it decorated with flowers from our florist, Julie Coffin of Unique Floral Expressions, who is one of the rock stars of the Atlanta wedding industry and whom Kat has worked many weddings with. We chose our cake and icing flavors, along with a fun design extra, and were quoted under $700 for our cake (tax and delivery included). The cake will serve 100. We'll have more than 100 guests, but there will be other dessert options too. Kat's quote is about $200 higher than another quote we recently received, so Lush is on the higher side. However, the other quote did not include an extra design element and the Lush quote also includes a "complimentary" anniversary tier a year after our wedding. A $150 non-refundable deposit is required to secure a date. We received Kat's proposal via email quickly after our meeting. My fiancee had a question and it didn't take long for Kat to respond. All in all, this was a wonderful experience. Now we just have to make a decision! Throughout our wedding planning process so far, this has turned out to be the most difficult decision yet.
