One year ago on a trip from the US I decided to give Bonham Strand a try as it was close to my hotel. My usual tailor in Hong Kong is Y William Yu, which is wonderful. I paid Bonham around US $3,000 for a suit and two shirts. They gave me two fittings, which I thought wasn't really enough, especially since the first cut of the suit was so far off. But they said it would be fine. They said they would send me the finished suit and shirt in the US. A couple weeks later the suit and shirts came, wadded up in a Fed Ex envelope. The suit was terrible. The slacks were so far off they wouldn't even stay up but would fall down to my ankles. The jacket was at best ok, but not the custom work I am used to for this much money. The shirts were three sizes small, and the sleeves were not long enough to cover my wrists. I emailed them, offering to return them for a refund but they refused and they said bring them back and we will fix them. I said I wouldn't be back for a year. They said bring them when you come. So I did. The woman who I met when I went there said they were new owners (though their web site still claims "decades" in the business) and that they would not fix things from the "old" store after six months. She said the "old" owner went crazy or something and they couldn't be responsible, although it's the same name and website. After some back and forth they agreed to replace the shirts and fix the slacks. They did try to fix the slacks with a couple of fittings, to be fair they did a decent job, but the pants were so far off to begin with they are still not what you would expect. Not lined, by the way. They took measurements for shirts and they said they would resend. When they arrived they were still too tight to button the neck and extremely tight around the chest and shoulders. When I contacted them they said I should appreciate the "favor" they did fixing the pants, and they would not fix the shirts. So basically I had a suit worth maybe USD $250.00, and no shirts. This despite the website "unconditional" guarantee of fit and quality. I gave the suit and shirts away to a dress for success program. Don't go to Bonham Strand, go to a reputable shop like Y William Yu. read more
