On the first try to make an appointment through the website there was a note saying they weren't accepting appointments but they would accept walk-ins. When I arrived at the storefront/office I was told they only accepted appointments, not walk-ins ?????? OK, I went home and tried the website again, selecting different dates until it would accept an appointment. Showed up 5 minutes before my appointment. An hour and 20 minutes later people with appointments earlier than me were still waiting. Technicians appeared to be available but no place to service the donors. I overhead a technician saying he needed a break for lunch...that was at 4:15P. Even though they take email-address/mobile number on the website when making the appointment, no one called/txt'd/emailed about running behind schedule. From the looks of the way the office was run, I'd guess this was a 'normal' day...stacking up the donors with multi-hour waits. I left. I'll try to donate through an organization that can match their capacity/throughput with their reservation system.

The managers/staff don't seem to notice or care how donors are affected by the incredibly long wait times when they don't staff enough employees to begin with, to make the process streamlined and efficient. I used to be able to go mid-day and have my vitals checked within 10 minutes... now I'm lucky if it takes less than an hour... I was there at 7:00 am on a Monday in late August, people are back in school for the fall... there was one employee taking vitals who was not at all in a rush and taking her time, while there were five people were in line, and an additional three donors were able to cut the line because they were new. My donation typically takes 30 minutes, but because it now takes so much time just to get into a chair, get set up, donate, and then wait (sometimes) 10-20 minutes to get wrapped up, it's no longer worth what I'm being compensated, $35 for one donation, or $75 for the week. Also, the amount earned for donations continues to decrease; a few months ago, I was earning about $45 for the first donation and about $55-60 for the second, so they are extorting donors. They are extorting us by making billions from our plasma and donors barely earn enough to get by for the week. If you go over 6 months without donating, you have to start the whole process over, by re-watching the donation video, and meeting with the nurse for a full work up again, or you will probably be adding at least another hour to your donation experience, maybe longer depending on what time/season of the year it is and what time of the day. As much as I appreciate and respect the concept of donating plasma to save lives, CSL Plasma has extorted me enough and left me feeling like they don't care about their donors nearly enough, and therefore it's no longer financially, economically or emotionally feasible for me to contribute or participate. When I block the numbers they call from another number which is how spam works of course. I have blocked no less than 50 numbers and still get calls from new numbers! It's never ending and annoying being blown up after asking 25+ times to be removed from their call list. The process of donating blood should also not take as long as it does. At my previous donation center I was in and out within 20 minutes. Their process with an appointment was about 2 hrs.

They handled appointments and a multitude of walk-ins today like a well oiled machine! The staff was professional and donors didn't have to wait long at all considering the volume. The only complaint that I heard was people not being able to book appointments on line at vitalant.com. They explained that once all appointments have been taken, you can no longer book on line but you can still call 303-363-2300 to schedule an appointment at the Parker location. The staff was very conscientious about the CDC Coronavirus protocols and I felt very protected. Due to the overwhelming response for blood donations they recommended scheduling your appointment for about a week from now to even out the volume, especially if you donate platelets since their shelf like is only 5 days.
