    Waiting for my set up

I have been coming here for a little over a month now (8 cycles) and I can honestly say, it gets better with time. My first reaction to this place was a negative one because the employees seemed unprofessional and more interested in laughing and joking with one another. After coming here for weeks, I see MAjOR improvement. Some employees are better than others but it's like that everywhere. I enjoy the attention the pay (majority of the time) to the patients. The 1st time you go, make sure to bring proper paperwork or you will be denied. Be sure to have a LOT of free time because the 1 let process can take up to 8 hours to complete. The second time, you'll need proof of address to be seen. I like the perks and bonuses they have....for iPads, more money etc. Overall, good set up, ok execution, obviously will be back.

Biomat USA/Talecris Plasma Resource is filled with friendly and kind staff always offering you water and pretzels along the donation journey. They consider the safety of donors with utmost importance. It was my first time donating at Talecris in Lakewood. I called ahead of time and they got me prepared with everything I needed: my ID, Social Security card and the instructions that I eat a lot before arriving. Once I got there, I showed them my Identity information and they offered me pretzels and water. Then I went to go see the nurse, James. He was professional and intelligent yet supremely bad-ass! He performed my physical thoroughly. I felt safe having this company donate my plasma. We got along so well that I wasn't even remotely nervous to hand him my cup of warm urine. He even stated "that was fast". I would say James and I had a good relationship. He even let me in on a little secret -- they used to serve Cliff bars instead of pretzels, but too many people had peanut allergies. James directed me back to the receptionist to get paired with someone to draw my plasma, and at that moment, I knew I would miss him for a long time. When I got back to the receptionist, she was in the middle of denying someone who reeked of some kind of herbs. As he stormed off he yelled "since when is that a rule?!" I asked the receptionist "Doesnt it smell like herbs?" and she said "thanks for reminding me." Then looked deep into my eyes and asked if I wanted any more pretzels and water. Once I was paired with my plasma harvester, I noticed her nametag said "Yellow" so I said "Your name is yellow? That's such a beautiful name." She looked at me like this "" and said, "My name is Cortney...I'm just working in the yellow zone." Then she gave me a squeeze ball to help suck the plasma out faster. So once I had filled about a Gatorade bottle-worth of plasma, my lips got really cold and I started sweating profusely. I knew something wasn't right, mainly because I remember my old friend James telling me about this experience he overheard a new donor have. He said that the donor got really cold, then started sweating, then he tried to lift up his arm to try to call for help but couldn't move, and so he passed out, barfed, and soiled himself on the comfy plasma donation seats. Then it hit me: I never accepted the offering of pretzels and water. I was malnourished, but at this point was too late. I tried to lift my arm to call over for help, but I started to lose vision. With all the energy left in my body, I managed to let my head fall to the side and turn to another plasma donater sitting by me. By this time I was essentially blind, so I just shouted "Miss!" to this woman sitting next to me, and she called for help. James came running. Instantly I felt my rectum dilate and I had the urge to vomit, and I thought I was going to be yet another of James' horror stories. But right before I soiled the chair, James told be that they were returning my fluids back to you cooling me down with ice packs. My rectum returned to normal and the vomit slithered back down my esophagus. Once my fluids were fully returned and they unhooked me from the plasma machine, I could finally stand up. I walked over to my bag and drank an old kale shake. I gave the woman next to me who had called James over a Trader Joe's date and peanut bar as a token of my gratitude. My vision was soon restored but I had a terrible headache and couldn't really form sentences. James wanted to makes sure I was ok, so he ran some quick medical tests and he gave me suggestions on how to feel better. Then he offered me the iconic pretzels and water. I stared at him, unsure what to think. Then he added they had some Mountainberry Blast Powerade. I took the Powerade.

I've been coming here since 2014 so I've seen the staff rotate across the years. They've all been…read moreextremely friendly and accommodate as much as possible. I see a lot of people in the reviews state a lot of jargon but the final word is this is a facility and they have to follow state laws and very strict regulations from higher ups (no they cannot break the rules). Even at times I would even disagree and feel a little perturbed. But the phlebotomists and screeners try to help and be as informative as possible. I would just double check with head of staff everything you need for your first time in and get a name to reference back to. Other then that yes the bonuses are great, easy process, cleanest facility I've ever seen. Once you become a regular you'll be treated like one to the whole staff and it will make the processes go much smoother. All of them are greatly trained and I hardly ever feel the stick if you come here twice a week on the regular like I do. Anyways it's always good to help others and get some extra cash so there's honestly no reason for you to not do it if you're able to.

Very disappointing experience…read more I was deferred due to a screening test, which is understandable. What is not understandable is the refusal to even review documentation from a licensed physician confirming that I am negative. I was told they will not consider any outside medical documentation until their internal secondary test comes back, regardless of what a doctor has already confirmed. Even more concerning was the behavior of the manager, Jeff. When I asked reasonable questions to understand the process, I was told I would "continue to be confused" unless I read their SOP. That is not an acceptable way to speak to anyone, especially a donor who is simply asking for clarification. There is a clear lack of professionalism and basic respect in how concerns are handled at this location. Policies may exist for a reason, but dismissing people instead of explaining them reflects poorly on management. If this is how donor concerns are addressed, it raises serious questions about accountability and customer care. I hope someone at a higher level takes a closer look at both the policy enforcement and the conduct of leadership at this center.

I was happy to find that the Red Cross had their own parking lot. I arrived a good half hour early and the instructor wasn't far behind (with the dinner she was trying to eat between commuting from work and the class). We chatted for a small bit about pet sitting and her pet sitter, and then other members of the class showed up. I was dismayed to find that the majority of the class time was spent watching a video that was at least 5 years old (probably 10). Class participants are given a book with the information included in the video, although we did find several parts that conflicted the movie. When it was time to practice administering make-shift muzzles, the instructor pulled out the pet dummies, which were all old - some of them were actually only stuffed animals and not the "breathable" practice dummies made specifically for the course. Many of the dummies didn't work, (i.e. when you breathed into their nose it did not inflate the lung) and had tears in the "fur." Even worse, the instructor didn't know how to make the muzzles. She tried for about 5 minutes to construct the make shift muzzle with gauze for short-nosed pets (cats an pugs, french bulldogs, etc.) and GAVE UP, admitting that she didn't know how to do it. I was really shocked at this. The instructor also mentioned that even though she teaches the class, she does not have pet first aid kits in her home or car. While I understand this (most people don't have either), it was pretty unprofessional to admit it. In May, the class will likely be broken into two sections, one for cats and one for dogs, which new books that include a DVD. While I don't mind the $50 donation I made (mandatory) for the class, I was very unhappy with the experience in general. I do feel like I learned from the class, but felt that the instructor, video, and practice dogs could have been much improved upon.

They had to shut off propane to the entire mobile home park to check everything to make sure it is safe to turn back on. They don't seem to be anywhere near being able to turn it back on and I have had to spend well over my budget just to get a motel room for my family of 4 to be able to take a shower and wash our hair only twice so far. When the female called back, she said it is past the deadline to get financial assistance but she could maybe get me referrals to take a shower at a truck stop (saying some will only charge $15.00 dollars for a shower. I live in colorado springs, colorado, and as far as I know there are not any truck stops anywhere near where I live even if I was compelled to go to a truck stop to take a shower. I am certainly glad I do not make donations to the red cross, I am totally taken back that someone who is supposed to help people would recommend something that could put victims of disasters in potentially more peril. I have stopped at truck stops in the past on a road trip to florida and just that experience would never encourage me to go to one of those to take a shower and she made it sound like a generous offer to pay $15.00 dollars for a shower x 4 people. It only cost a few dollars more than that to get a motel room and you can get a motel room down the road and not have to drive 60 + miles each way! Wow!! Disappointed in an organization that claims to help disaster victims. Sad and disgusting!

I was scheduled with Michelle who clearly reviewed my intake paperwork (which was super easy to do online) and got me started right away. It was the most calming and soothing experience I've had.
