We had a lot of entertaining over the weekend and rolling into Tuesday, I was tired of cooking. We considered our usual carry out or delivery options and mostly things didn't hit with us. Time to reconsider and find something that was more off the beaten path. I remembered that during COVID craziness, Bonefish offered Family Bundles to-go. So looking on their website, they still have them along with curb side pick-up. Let's give it a go! We ordered the bang-bang shrimp taco family bundle. This was billed as enough for 12 tacos on corn tortillas, along with diced tomatoes and shredded romaine lettuce. Your choice of a family sized Caesar salad or Bonefish house salad and dressing choice. Bread with olive oil. And chocolate chip or white chocolate cranberry cookies, or a mix. Other options are offered at an additional charge, notably beverage or side options. The family bundle is well packaged separately, but if single use plastic is something you personally are trying to discourage, this may not be the meal for you. Unless reuse is an option. The shrimp is not dressed and arrives separate such that you sauce it at home to preserve as much crispiness as possible. Placing an order online was remarkably easy, choose from these options in sections going down the page, payment was simple, and the choice for pick up time is either at your discretion or asap, which means approx 40 minutes. Arriving at the restaurant, park in a designated spot, notify of your arrival by phone call, and seconds later our meal was delivered. Everything was fantastic! With tip, this was $70. It would easily feed 4-5 people. We had three and there were plenty of leftovers. The main point of the review update is to highlight Bonefish as a take out option. Something easily overlooked but which offers a pretty filling and tasty dinner that is a refreshing change of pace from the standard take out options one might consider. My husband and I had 7pm reservations but got there around 6:45. We were able to be seated immediately. My husband ordered a beer and it was brought out room temp without a frosted glass so he told them to take it back and give him a cold beer. They did and this time, the frosted glass came as well. The manager came over and said the beer was in the fridge so it should've been cold and we told him it was absolutely not! It was one sip missing, not the whole beer so we were kind of upset that he basically said we were lying. The food was meh overall. The restaurant is nicely dimmed but there are too many tables. Front door not clean... general ambience was just fine but the place is a bit beat. Bar and wait staff were all so polite, attentive and helpful. Drinks were very fresh and the happy hour pour was generous as well. Fresh margs! No premix. Bourbon Old Fashions of various types were fantastic. Wine pour could not be better and if you are ok with the house wine it was more than adequate for the price point. Chris the bartender was fabulously attentive and accommodating. The food while acceptable was more than pricy for what was served. The dinner plate is about the size of a hors d'oeuvre plate. Not very impressive and the sea bass was a very small portion for the $30+ price point. I recognize this is unfortunately becoming an expensive fish but the portion was a turn off on an already very small plate. Not a do again. Same goes for other items that we witnessed. My feeling is that no one is check quality on the dishes before they go out to be served. Just not "smile" when you get it... more of a a frown... like "is this it?" I stopped by for lunch during the rare snow in SC because I knew the place would be empty. I was eagar to try the seasonal lobster bisque. My waitress was great, but the food was "eh". The lobster bisque price was great, I didn't get much of an upcharge for a full bowl side substitution and it had a decent amount of lobster meat but I've had much better lobster bisques. The mahi was again, decent, but not memorable. They were out of green beans and the kitchen subbed broccoli as the seasonal veggie. The ambiance here is very nice and relaxed. The lights are a little dim for me (at night) but still enough to read the menu. Staff is very friendly and even offer recommendations for food, appetizers and drinks. Of the times I've been here, the food has been fantastic! The last time I was here I had the sirloin & shrimp. The sirloin I had cooked medium and it was spot on medium. The shrimp were also cooked perfectly, which is that fine line between chewy and crunchy. Absolute perfection. My wife and I made a reservation for this restaurant one week in advance for Valentine's Day. The reservation was for 7:15 PM. We arrived at 7 o'clock and were told that they were still seating reservations for 6:00 PM and that we were 57th in line. What good does it do to make a reservation in advance if when you get to the restaurant, they won't honor the reservation because they purposely, which was admitted by the hostess, overbooked the restaurant? We had a 6:15 reservation and obviously "reservation" is a concept that they don't understand in this restaurant. At 6:30, we were told that we were 30th in the wait. It was packed for Valentine'sDay but that was exactly the reason we called for a reservation two weeks in advance. This was the absolute worst meal that we have ever eaten at a Bone Fish Grill. We love their Bang Bang shrimp but this order was terrible. It had no batter on it. It was as if the shrimp were cooked in a deep fryer then sauced. Think crispy shrimp not tempura type batter that we are used to eating at Bone Fish. So disappointing. Our server was sub par. No refills on water. We had cocktails (which were delicious) but wanted to drink water with our meal. No follow up on clearing of plates once our bill was delivered and paid. Upset stomach upon returning home. Really not a good experience. Unfortunately, we will not be going back. There are too many good non-chain restaurants in Greenville. It pains me to say that Bonefish is no longer offering their sweet potato dish! I don't even know what to say, but I definitely feel a little whiney about it. And, apparently, that was only the beginning of sorrows. I was also dismayed to see that most side dishes are either carb-laden, or contain sugar. So, Spinach was the only side dish I could eat, so I got a double serving. My "Mahi Mahi" arrived as pictured, grilled, with lemon butter. That did not look like any Mahi I have ever eaten, so I didn't eat it all. The spinach, as pictured, was barely cooked at all. If you enjoy your spinach more like a salad than a cooked side dish, you will enjoy this. Our food was edible, but not very enjoyable. Hubby and I both feel Bonefish may not merit any more visits. Nice atmosphere, the dim lighting makes it a bit more intimate though lots of people socializing like us so maybe a bit loud for a nice romantic time (though there may be another side with booths). I had lunch at Bonefish Grill on Woodruff Rd, Greenville, on 5-29-25, with a group of about a dozen seniors who had made reservations. I cannot recommend this restaurant based on my meal there. I ordered their special, only to find out they didn't have any. Being a fish place, I next ordered the Fish and Chips. Don't order the Fish and Chips. It came with a tiny side of slaw. My meal reminded me of Long John Silvers, only the 3 fish planks were bigger. I bit into one of them and got a mouthful of greasy breading and no fish, unlike LGS where each plank is mostly fish. I discovered over a quarter inch of breading on a tiny sliver of fish. It reminded me of school days long ago and Square Fish Fridays, where we had an eighth inch of fish trapped between a fourth inch of breading on each side. I started peeling off the breading, only to discover almost no fish in any of the three planks. My breading pile was gigantic. When my fork cut into the breading to remove it, I could see the grease oozing around the fork. Disgusting is too kind a word. Service was mediocre but the bill was big. read more
