When I first the restaurant, the vibe was absolutely very traditional. It had cool history props and bobble heads in the restaurant. It's a place of history, I'll give it that. The service was amazing, I was seated and the lady took my order ASAP. The food was amazing, the burger was so juicy. It tasted like an unseasoned steak. We made reservations almost 2 weeks in advance for valentine's day at 6:30. We actually called to see if we could get in earlier that day and we're told no so we stayed with our original time. We got there at 6:20 got seated and the tried to order off the drink menu and we're told "I don't even know why that drink is on there we don't have the stuff to make it" so we got something else we then we tried to order that they were out of the Prime rib which was why we drove over 30 min to get so we again changed and ordered something else mind you they were having a whole dinner special that they were advertising for Valentines day so then we ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms another special mind u only to be told after we ordered they were now out of that. This is at 6:30 and you are out of most of what you were advertising as your big Valentines day dinner? So we just offered to pay for the water and coke we had ordered so we could leave. They did comp my coke and were apologizing but at this point there was Nowhere else we could get into so we ended up calling a few places with no luck so we just went home and ordered door dash. Very poor planning on there part and it was the most Disappointing Valentines day we have had in 30 years of marriage I know that sounds extreme but we have never had that happen at any other dinner we have made reservations that far in advance for and really had no other place we could go by that point so it really sucked. Man.... It's been a while since I had boneheads and boy has it seemed to go downhill. Ordered several items and wasn't happy with anything outside of their fried pickles. Chicken on sandwich was borderline burnt, pork chops had zero flavor, and the brisket from the sampler legit had to have been rancid. I ordered an extra side of brisket that they forgot and I didn't even call to complain because it was so bad. Had to have another person taste it to make sure I wasn't losing my mind. Always delicious and fun place to go to eat. The atmosphere feels like going to grandmas warm and cozy home with a twist. They change the decor seasonally. A favorite menu item is the barbecue sundae. I usually end up with enough extras for another meal or two. read more

BBQ is what Bone Heads does best and my meal was definitely on point! I ordered the Texas Brisket sandwich with sweet potato fries (there's an upcharge for these) and it was very satisfying. Tender brisket topped with coleslaw, crispy onion straws, and bbq sauce on top of two thick pieces of toasted bread. The mixture of flavors was heavenly and the brisket was tender! I also recommend the sweet potato fries with the lightly flavored horseradish sauce - a perfect combo! This meal was so good I was wanting to go back for the same the next day! As far as atmosphere, Bone Heads is definitely a family dining establishment and it's the decor is little outdated. It maybe part of the atmosphere there are striving for it just wanted to let you know. It's definitely not a hip place and may not make the best impression for a first date. Second times a charm... I went to this place about a month ago for the first time and if I was to review it then, It would be totally different reviews. I wanted to give this restaurant a chance to change my mind and they did. Now, this place has been here for years but just like the rest of the paranormal activity believers, I was too skeptical to enter the place. I mean it's rated on the most haunted places in Michigan list and I'd rather NOT be greeted in the restroom, by beloved dear aunt Sally, circa 1973 while I'm trying to do my business. On to the food..I ordered the fried chicken, garlic mash and chicken tortilla soup and a side of Mac and cheese. The fried chicken had gravy and so did the mash. The flavors are superb, chicken extra crispy even underneath the gravy but still super most and cooked to perfection. The garlic mash wasn't over garlicky, perfect taste and consistency with the gravy. The Mac and cheese was just okay in the flavor department but the noodles were cooked great and the cheese sauce with sprinkles of shredded cheese on top gave it a bit of a home cooked flair. THE SOUP... best part of the meal, so many veggies so much soul and flavor I drank the juice. Five stars for me.... Yes yes yes will return!!! read more

We started out with the fried pickle chips, which were crazy crispy. For an entrée, hubby got the BLT with Bone Heads bacon. It was a big sandwich and hubby loved the bacon. The coleslaw on the side was creamy and delicious. Daughter got the pulled chicken salad and declared it "yummy". And I tried the BBQ sundae with garlic mashed potatoes and pulled pork - I would get it again for sure. Bone Heads is housed in an old house, next to the railroad tracks in Willis. The decor is a mashup of homey finishes and skeleton-forward embellishments with a touch of pirate for good measure. The main dining area is open, and good for accommodating larger parties. I prefer the bar area, which has fewer tables for my intimate parties and a long bar with televisions and Keno. On the menu, bar-b-que is not surprisingly the star. I love the melt-in-your-mouth brisket - No knife needed, and the pig wings appetizer. The BBQ salad is my absolute favorite for a mix of freshness and savory, meaty goodness. The menu also features an array of burgers and sandwiches - all monstrous and meaty. The sides are nothing to write home about, typical bar-b-que sides, but the cajun fries are quite good. Visited last night on the way to the Lincoln Sports Center(wow) to see our grandson play baseball. Probably not a true fair rating because we ordered fish(Lent) at a barbecue place. From the tablecloths to the tables to the decor it lives and breathes old, and old school too. The server was attentive, the food was good. I split a catfish appetizer and family platter with 5 other people. Initially we thought it wouldn't be enough but we found ourself struggling to finish. The platter came with sides of baked beans and coleslaw, a rack of ribs, a whole smoked chicken, 1/2 lb of brisket, a lot of fries, as well as cornbread muffins. So we had gone to Thunder Over Michigan on Sunday, had scene the sign and decided to try it. It looks like a barbecue joint off the beaten path - older building with good features and wood inside. Their were two things wrong with my experience - it was a bit warm inside (even with fans going) and my beer wasn't cold enough. Other than that this a place worth going. Service was fine and I appreciated the hustle of our bartender who was also waitressing tables. My girlfriend had the pulled pork sandwich and loved it - I tried the pork and it was pretty damn good. I had the Firehouse Burger and although it wasn't as spicy hot as I'd hoped, it was still on point. Juicy, cooked right and flavorful. I just order 2 salads and 2 meals for my kids. I get there and they didn't hear that I ordered 2 salads. Common mistake and I understand that. Went back in got my salad for no extra cost. Which I appreciate very much. However once I get home my wife's salad had no dressing or meat. I call and see if there is anything they can do.... all they said was I could drive the 20 minutes back up so they can put the chicken on..... I'm a little disappointed in the service. This time I felt compelled to leave a review. I go here because my friend who is an able to drive, loves their broasted chicken. Which is good but not the best I've ever had. I have experienced multiple times, their food is pre-cooked and heated to serve. My meal was served totally room temperature. We were sitting in the bar area and the bartender and our waitress were literally in a deep conversation facing the wall. Not the best position to serve and observe your customers. The service was very poor. The mushrooms were raw even though we had to send them We still did not eat the mushrooms. I asked to not pay for the cold smothered chicken, and was told that's how their mushrooms are served. Although we could not eat the mushrooms, we were charged for them. That was the last straw and my last trip there. Jim built up a lovely place but has allowed the quality of the service and food to diminish terribly.
