Now that Bone-A-Patreat has been sold I can see how on top of everything the original owners were. I kept wondering why my account for 12 years could not be found over the last few months and then I was told I had never bought the cat litter before...but I have bought it every visit the last 2 years. I looked for a product and the sales person said they have never had that item. But I think I got it there originally. Then the sales people behind the desk at waukee seem to ask one guy all the questions. He seems overwhelmed. The last time I went in I told them it was so stressful I wasnt sure I would be back. Then I was told that the company-name-and image of original owners was sold and they were having issues with the computer system. So no longer a shop local store. So sad. read more

Came in to get my dog some nice treats for his Birthday. I ordered a cupcake, and 2 of the peanut butter cups for him. Every time he ate one he got sick!! I am extremely displeased, and will not be back. I thought it would be nice to treat him for his bday. Instead he got sick. Would not reccomend buying any treats out of the display case from there!! read more

I wont be going back. It was nice they offered to special order treats for my dog that he LOVED, however the last 3-4 times i went in not only was i met with unwelcoming rules, the employee was unhelpful and verging on rude. she didn't communicate to me she was going in the back to look for the order, so i was about to leave. In a rude way she said she was looking for it. After being gone awhile and the line to checkout upfront grew to 5 people, she still didn't let me know if she found anything. My bigger issue the last four times i stepped 4 steps into the door, was being met with MAAM DO YOU HAVE A MASK! I turn around and leave. I dont need that type of customer service. read more

Incredibly rude and condescending staff at the Uptown Center location. After many years, I will never shop here again. There are many other options out there and usually cheaper too and businesses like this need to understand that good customer service is crucial. I like to support local businesses but when I am treated like dirt then you lose my custom forever. Bone-A-Patreat has been caring about your pets for a long time now. I used to walk to their location in Beaverdale long ago. When I can I still head over any chance I get to pick up food or treats for my dog. They still recognize me from when I would walk in with my husky way back. This is a big deal to me. If you know me and my dog then you are paying attention and care about the people who walk into your store. They carry all great brands of dog food and treats. My favorite thing about this store is that every year on my dogs birthday I get her a doggie cake. Hey have the little cakes already made and I can take it right home for her. Once its defrosted she can go to town and I have never heard one complaint. :) I recommend you stop in and check out this great shop that really will care about you and your pets. read more

I simply had to come here today and share what I experienced with Bone-A- Patreat. I am immunodeficient, so this whole COVID-19 situation is scary for me, and I am doing my best to social distance. I was floored when I heard what the folks at Bone-A-Patreat are doing during this time. They are delivering orders of dog food, free of charge, to those people who cannot leave their homes during this time, instead of having them come in and risk exposure. It's things like this that show the dedication to their customers that will have me as a repeat customer for as long as I live in the area. Aside from their phenomenal customer service, their food is fantastic for your dogs, their treat section is diverse and keeps dogs guessing and their toy area- let me just tell you. My dog, Sadie probably has a good 20 toys from in there and enjoys them all. Bone-A-Patreat will always have an amazing selection of products, but will also be here treating their customers like good neighbors. AMAZING. Teagan and the super sweet bald dude helped us out! We want to spoil our cats when we get home. No dental or health stuff just yummy TREATS. And they helped so much I am forever thankful for these wonderful people. We got 3 recommended treats and a little treat dispenser toy. Adorable! Great staff great selection great prices! Very accommodating, helpful and congenial. Special order or keep product on hand i need (on a monthly basis). Really like their Rewards Program. They still deliver to my car from the store. I appreciate the absolute ease they make every visit. I would HIGHLY recommend any of their locations. Heads up: some locations seem to cater to dogs and others to cats (they sell everything. I liked this place at first because it was cute and they carried a treat for my exotic animal I couldn't find anywhere else. I'm not sure if the management changed or something but my recent experiences haven't been great. The staff has been super rude and even straight up catty to me. I was looking at different treats where a young girl was stocking them. I guess I made the mistake of taking an item off the rack to look at the ingredients because she immediately glared at me, sighed, and straightened the items on the rack as if I messed them all up. Very pretentious and anal retentive. They kept asking if I needed help and acted like I was stealing because like I said i have an exotic pet so i dont stick to one section of the store and try to find what i need. Usually they ask for the phone number to look up my account but this time they asked my full name and address which made me super uncomfortable. I first found myself at B.A.P when my cat was having health issues and I wanted to look into modifying his diet before ordering the expensive tests and possibly invasive treatments the vet was recommending. April, the owner, was super friendly and helpful, and right-on with her recommendation- the food they recommended fixed him right up when nothing else had worked. I was sure I could find it cheaper online to save $ but nope, B.A.P actually sells it cheaper than anywhere I could find online. Since then I've been back and it's always a pleasure to talk to the owner and staff who are courteous, helpful and knowledgeable about recommending products when I come in with a problem or question. Since living in Des Moines, Bone-A-Patreat has been the place for all my animale needs. I just have had dogs and now one cat so I don't know what else they have for other creatures. I love supporting this small business and I love to see the business growing. I shop here knowing my pets are getting the best food out there. When I bring my Shiba in he usually will find a treat at his eye level and drag it home with us. The staff are consistent with great service and it's been basically the same people working there since I started going which tells me April treats her people right. If you've never shopped here before and are used to shopping at big box retailers, you may be in for some sticker shock. Great place to get toys, natural foods, pet supplies and just about anything you could need for your pets. Also, they are cheaper on many of the items than the big box stores! Back in April I was in Des Moines visiting relatives looking for a pet food store that sold quality cat food. I literally stumbled upon on Bone-A-Patreat. My cat, George, has been suffering from some liver issues due to my feeding him poor quality cat food for years. I had been working with an animal intuitive from the Twin Cities and we had decided that George needed to eat only Rabbit and or Chicken proteins to alleviate this problem. The intuitive was following Chinese veterinary guidelines. The problem was is after months of this diet, George was going backwards in terms of his health (which was characterized by overgrooming). I was simply looking for additional wet chicken food when I bumped into April and explained what was going on with George. She immediately, and politely, told me that from what she knew of the Yin and Yang of animal proteins that a cat with this kind of trouble should actually be eating "cold" animal protein and that chicken and rabbit (what had been recommended to me by the intuitive) are "hot" proteins and might be exacerbating his condition. She then produced a chart of animal proteins on a continuum of hot to neutral to cold. Well, I was confused as to what to do. I was receiving contradictory information and was not sure what to trust. April then told me it was too bad the holistic vet who visits the store on some Saturday mornings was not there that day (it was Saturday afternoon anyway) for me to consult. I thought, yeah, that would have been nice. About five minutes later, April walked over to me and hands me the phone and tells me the holistic vet is on the phone and would I like to speak to her. Of course I did and the vet did indeed endorse switching George to "cold" or "neutral" animal proteins, a decision that has improved George's condition greatly. So what I want to say is this. I now live in Spirit Lake, Ia, and I cannot find quality cat food here nor would I ever have access to this kind of alternative verterninary consultation available to me. In addition, I lived in the Twin Cities for 32 years and never, and I mean never, have received service like this in any pet store, boutique or big box. This experience was the best customer service I have ever had, regardless of the situation. April, I thank you, and most of all, George thanks you.
