Ok, I've had a lot of issues with roofing companies. They take forever to show up, when they're done the problem isn't fixed and it comes right back when it rains. They say they have a warranty and then ghost me when I try to get them to fix their failing work. I finally came across a company that will come out and do the work and the roof doesn't leak when they're done. Thank goodness! Michael is excellent at doing what he says he'll do. Also, when it's raining these companies are in so much demand they can't possibly get to everybody in a timely manner. When I was new, Michael came out on the weekend in between jobs and took care of my leak so I didn't have to worry about my wood floor being ruined at my business. Now I'm a repeat customer and he's there whenever I need him with a price that is very reasonable. This company will stay on my radar when ever I need a roof repaired or replaced! read more

Our experience with Bonded Roofing is 5 stars. Michael F. was our point of contact. Roof contracts are fixed price plus any additional wood repairs. Bonded roofing documents each piece of wood repaired and provides in the contract a pricing sheet for each type of wood. The additional repairs were minimal as he initially anticipated, and the repairs were well documented so there was no guessing as to whether the repair was required. We accepted the contract; they started work the next day and completed the work ahead of schedule. We had no problems for them to address. They cleaned up very well each day. Michael returned to do a final inspection with us before payment. We would gladly recommend this company. (Our home is a 1912 California bungalow with a detached 2 car garage). read more

Their rep Michael was very informative throughout the whole process and addressed all my concerns including the possibility of rain one day. Which he assured me that his crew would be tarping the roof once the tear off was complete, and they did which was my biggest concern doing this. They were able to get my roof done in 3 Days! Passed all inspections and went above and beyond to please their customers. The clean up around my house was immaculate, I jumped on the roof with the rep and foreman and walked the roof on the last day and could not find one thing I was worried about. They installed fascia board all around my house as well for a reasonable price. The reason I chose this company was through yelp and I like that they are licensed and insured which was a major factor. They have a GREAT labor and material warranty which would last me 40+yrs. Larry is not honoring our ten-year free labor roof warranty from Gene Layton's company that he acquired. Larry emailed in writing (pictured) that this is not the same company, which begs the question to Yelp management, if it is not the same company, shouldn't this Yelp business page be closed since the owner died, and the new owner claims he doesn't have to honor warranties because it is not the same company? Yelpers: If you read through this company's profile, which was originally hosted and owned by Gene Layton (may he rest in peace), but is now hosted and owned by Larry Mohr of J&J roofing DBA Bonded Roofing--Larry doesn't honor Gene's roof warranty. If you bought your residential roof, like we did, July 2019, while Gene Layton was living, and you need to file a roof warranty claim as Gene Layton's customer, the email I posted from Larry explains it all. We reported the first rain leaks after our new roof installation, Christmas Day 12/25/19, direct to Gene Layton. Gene sent Ed, 12/26/19. When it rains, our roof leaks, and when we reported it to Larry, he also sent Ed. Their website and email has not changed address or name. The employees are the same. The Yelp page is this same one. Purchased our first home in the fall of 2021 and knew a new roof would be the first major fix within a year. Our roof had three layers of materials: the original 1955 wood shake, and two layers of asphalt composite shingles over top. The top layer was so bad, shingles were literally flying off by themselves in the wind. We have no frame of reference for this type of work - length of time, cost -, so did our due diligence in gathering multiple quotes. Larry was without question, the kindest and most honest person we dealt with. The pricing was on par with the other quotes, even with our city's "cool roof technology" requirements, so we knew they were all fair, however, we went with the person we felt most comfortable with, and we are not sorry. Larry's team flew thru demo, had the plywood up the next day, and after inspection, I believe it was less than 3 days for the roof to be completed; 5.5 days total. The roof looks great, but what I'd like to shine a light on here is how clean the crew worked. We just had our home exterior painted, and these painters left an absolute mess every day. They moved in and took over all the space they needed and left everything everywhere without regard that we are still living in the home and using the outdoor space. They blocked our shed with their ladders, paint on our planters...grumble, grumble... The Bonded Roofing crew spent the last 20 minutes or so of each day just cleaning up. Sweeping the area, picking up nails, wood chips, or whatever, even going as far as to use a blower to completely clean the area every single day. They made a concerted effort to leave the area better than they found it, and having just gone thru a not-so-considerate vendor, this really stands out to me a remarkable, and going the extra mile. They also send progress photos! I have a full historical photo library of before, during, and after of our new roof, which was an unexpected surprise. Got multiple quotes on my roof from many contractors. Wasn't happy with any of them. Some lied, some tried to peg me as a sucker by purposely missing scope they could change order in later and others claimed exorbitant covid pricing. I was about to give up. Then I see Bonded doing my neighbors roof, so I figure eh, I'll get one more quote since they're across the street anyway. Bonded came in lowest by a wide margin, their scope was comprehensive and they caught ways I could save that other roofers never mentioned. I am so glad my neighbor hired them and I saw their sign in her yard. I ran their price past another roofer post-award and he confirmed it was a great deal. Larry is the newish owner by the way, so take any old reviews with a grain of salt. As I understand it the company is very different (better) under Larry. My neighbor worked for them under the prior owner so she shared the insider scoop. Roof install went smoothly and quickly, about 4 days but I have a larger home and was doing a full tear off. Larry and his foremen visited multiple times during install to inspect and answer questions. My neighbors are tight knit and our homes the same vintage. In the pictures we have the beginning and end product including replacing wood eaves which owner wish to be included. What I appreciated about Bonded Roofing: 1. Betty is a friendly and very good at follow up. While she may come across as persistent I was grateful she was doing her job and was kind to offer doing work despite us asking to do work 6 months after signing contract 2. Bonded was able to confirm start date and began right away 3. On the first day I met the owner Larry which I find is a great sign for an owner to check on all his roofs whether projects are large or small. 4. The first day was rain and Larry and his crew scrambled to get tarps to cover the wood which was a huge help and really saved us a lot 5. They were able to get the permit and work with the inspector who cleared everything with no problems. 6. The billing was easy and they were fair on price with expected price change that was within range and budget 7. The finish and sealing was clean and they were kind enough to remount the satellite dishes which a lot of companies don't do normally. I was very impressed and have asked them for another quote. Working with Betty and Larry has been great. I understand some people have not had the best experience but I hope to continue to work with Bonded in the future as they have shown to be professional and a breath of fresh air for being a medium/large roofing company. Here are some photos of the damage and the experience. Here's a couple photos of the nails coming through the wood ceiling in the living room. I pointed this out to the guys applying the plywood and then they did it a second time. The other photo is of the oil stain they left on my stone driveway. They did pressure wash it but could never remove the stain. The gutter standing in the back was damaged during the job and it stood there for 3 weeks until they replaced it. I had to call them a few time to get them to come back and fix a few things. They did repair the ceiling inside the house but it had to be painted instead of stained- to cover the numerous patches. The owner and his team did a fantastic job on my 30,000 square feet commercial building. The project was challenging since we needed to coordinate three objectives: redoing the roof, replacing platforms for freezing and cooling units and removing skylights to free up space for solar panels. The crew lead by Ed got moving fast starting from day one. They arrived at the break of morning and hauled into the evening. For two weeks they demoed, repaired, replaced and lastly, reroofed. Bonded Roofing was one of three contractors we had bid on your nine unit condo building in early 2020. On the back side of Covid and after raising the money I went back to the three contractors and asked for them to revisit their bids and make adjustments, it had been over a year. Two of the contractors increased their bids by as much as 10%, Bonded stood by their original bid and said there would be no increase. Their bid came in far below the others now and their work and professionalism refreshing. The job took all week, five days from start to finish. The worksite was kept clean and we all survived the smell of the tar, it meant no more leaks lol. I had one tenant call and advise me that some pebbles had gone down her kitchen stove exhaust during the tear off. I talked to Larry and within twenty minutes his crew had been to the unit and took care of the problem. The quality and durability of the new roof? I will get back to you in ten to fifteen years lol. After the contract was signed and we paid in full, Mike would not return calls, the job was half completed, and it took over a month, several phone calls and emails to get mike and Ed on scene. I called Bonded Roofing in three years ago when I had a minor leak. Super professional & helpful, they repaired the leak and advised that I would not need a complete new roof. They were courteous, 100% honest & I appreciated that. My roof is probably 25 + years old and I recently noticed signs of a small leak in another part of the roof. I called them and they came out to do an inspection. Once again I could have chosen the option of a small repair, there was no pressure to replace the roof. However, I asked Michael Franco for an estimate to do the complete roof, I knew I was getting close to the point where it needed to be done. I thought the estimate was extremely fair and very reasonable, and I signed up to have it done. The job for my small 1,000 sq. ft. started on a Monday morning & finished Friday afternoon. I am very very happy. Every night the guys did an amazing job of cleaning up the job site, everything was super clean, no mess or debris anywhere. Everything was as promised, city permit obtained, regular inspections by Ed ( an employee with 38 years service) , and the crew of "Tuna" and three others worked a full shift every day. I hired Bonded Roofing to tear off my existing roof and install a new one. My roof has been a problem for many years and I know that a 30+ year old wood shake roof not only looks horrible but it is terribly inefficient as well. I was able to get away with not having to replace it for the past 5 or so years because it just doesn't rain hard in California anymore. Last year when the big el nino threat came I was unable to come up with the money so I got some tarps up on the roof which turned out to be unnecessary because this el nino was nothing like the last one in the last nineties. I went to sell my house and this is when I found out that I was not going to be able to sell this to somebody that needed bank financing because the roof just didn't pass. I found out I qualified for a program called the Hero program which allowed me to get my financing in place. The roofing contractors came out and listened to my reasoning for getting a roof which was to just get a good roof on there so I could sell the house. The two quotes that I got were over $25,000 and they wanted to tear off the entire roof and support system and replace all the facia even though that would was in good condition. I was frustrated and then I finally got a hold of Gene from Bonded Roofing. Gene came out and here and actually listened to me and then gave me a quote that came in under $10,000. He said that he would replace the starter board around the roof that had wood rot from being up there for so long and we also identified a few rafter boards that needed replacing. Gene is an old school guy and I am sure he wouldn't mind me saying that he is 70 cause he is lol. Old school is good in contracting because there are some baked in characteristics like integrity and honesty that I was getting from Gene and I was not getting it from the roofing salesman that came and had obviously never picked up a hammer a day in their life. Once we nailed down the terms of the agreement which were quite simple, I got an explanation of what was going to be done and a timeframe. I have had some bad experiences in the past and I did know that it was possible that more wood damage would be found as the old roof was torn off so Gene keyed in on this and put a cap on the dollar amount with regard to replacing wood. I later learned that the wood is not so expensive and when you have a crew of 10 up there doing the work it really doesn't take a whole lot of additional time to replace some of the board when the roof is off. This job was scheduled around Thanksgiving so we started on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving because it rained on Sunday and Monday. His tear off crew showed up here at 6:45 and were ready to go with tools in hand at 7pm as scheduled. I showed them my garden and things around my house that were important to me. I did remove some security cameras and patio sails that made contact with the roof. The guys tarped everything up and went to town. By 10am the roof was off and the next group of guys was up there pulling nails, replacing wood and getting things ready for the radiant barrier plywood which is now what you have to use in the city of Long Beach. The worked for the rest of the day and the city inspector was due to show up on Wednesday to check the job once the plywood was down. There were no hiccups or issues and the inspector came and signed off and the guys went about laying down the shingles. We had a shingles left to replace but the roof was totally able to sit during thanksgiving and there was no rain in the forecast. On Friday the guys came back and installed the rest of the shingles. They put up the flashing and really put a lot of time in effort installing flashing around the pipes that stick up out of the roof as well as the chimney. I also had new vents cut into the roof to increase airflow in the attic. This was the first time that I could feel the radiant barrier plywood working. Regardless of the temperature outside, when the sun beats down on the roof for 5 hours it gets warm in the garage and this was the first time the garage remained cool all day. The job was finished on Friday and the inspector came to do the final sign off yesterday on Tuesday. When it came time to settle up with Gene he actually charged me $200 less than we originally agreed and that was awesome. I now have a great roof that is efficient and a transferrable warranty that I can give to the buyer of the house when I go to put it back on the market. Our roof had been leaking a little last year, so I knew we needed work to be done. I wanted to wait until after the first rain before my review. Not one leak. So here you have it. I called the office. I asked for Gene, I was told he was not in the office. Gene called me back the next day. I told him about the leaking when I realized this is the original roof from when we bought our house, in 1978. Bonded Roofing put that roof on. Gene came out the next day and went on the roof. He came down with pictures of our roof. No doubt we needed a new roof. We discussed what we needed and the price. Which was very fair. It was a great experience from start to finish. Typically, for most home improvement work, you need to call 6 companies for estimates to get 3 that will actually show up. This was again my experience when working with roofing companies. Bonded was the only one that arrived on time, actually 10 minutes early. I was greeting by Alfredo Barrios from Bonded Roofing. After an inspection he went over the job and lined me out on how Bonded Roofing would provide a new worry-free solution for my Spanish tile and rolled asphalt roof, which was beginning to leak in many places. Price-wise he was in the same ball park as the other companies, but added a couple of extras for the same price with some old-school proven solutions (hot tar mop) which other companies had left out. The job took 4 days and the communication Alfredo provided me was first rate. He is a very like-able guy and you can tell he enjoys working with his customers. Each day the crew cleaned up the grounds, no stray nails or debris and overall are were very neat and orderly in how they worked. They crew even took note of the manner in which the original tiles were laid, mission style, which is when you lay clay tiles on a roof with cement oozing out from just under the front lip of the tile. The rustic look and feel of the home was preserved. I consciously did not ask Bonded to duplicate my Mission style look as i thought it would drive up the price due to the extra time and labor needed to get it right but Bonded Roofing came through. He helped arrange removal of our solar panels, no thanks to the solar company. The crew put in lots of hard work and spent time to clean up at the end of each day. My only critique would be the large number of nails I collected from our bushes with a magnet after they were done. I would recommend they go around their job sites with a magnet in the future.
