No joke, I am writing this review nauseous and emotionally distraught. People say London is supposed to have the best Indian food, and I think they are absolutely insane...
The food was delivered on time, with an appreciated surprise addition of free papadum, a liter of Coca Cola (which was flat as soon as we opened the bottle), and an aloo dish.
Chicken korma:
Should taste like - earthy/cashew infused curry
Tasted like - yellow lentil dahl with an addition of a cup of sugar that was pureed and had no texture
Chicken tikka masala:
Should taste like - onion/tomato/spice based masala
Tasted like - sweet Italian pasta sauce with the addition of sugar that was pureed and had no texture
Bindi bhaji:
Tasted like - VERY oily, even after we requested for them to go easy on oil
Tarka "dall":
Should taste like - yellow lentil dahl infused with cumin and Indian spices
Tasted like - be prepared for a SLAP of burned garlic flavor with the texture of baby food
Vegetable "biriani":
-actually quite good, but had too much potato
Tandoori "ruti":
Should taste like - should taste like a tandoori roti!!!!!!!!!
Tasted like - imagine if naan and pita bread got it on and was heated in the microwave
Raita:
Should taste like - plain fresh yogurt possibly with some cucumber, tomato, onion, cilantro, and cumin
Tasted like - looked like YELLOW custard (WHAT?!?!), made of absolutely stale yogurt, tasted like syrup
First of all, the fact that dahl ("dall"), biryani ("biriani"), and roti ("ruti") were all spelled incorrectly on the menu should have been a red flag...This is NOT INDIAN style cuisine, this is BANGLADESH style food.
After we all gave each dish a fair chance, we decided to add some salt to "doctor it up", with the hopes of counteracting the extreme sweetness, but that was also a failure.
Once we finished yelling at each other for ordering from this restaurant (there were no previous reviews on Yelp, so we thought we'd give it a chance), we decided to give the manager/staff a call to find out what was going on. We asked what region the food was from, and they let us know that it is indeed Bangladeshi food. We made sure to let them know that they should consider advertising this establishment as a Bangladeshi restaurant, rather than Indian. The person we spoke with was apologetic and asked if we would like any other dishes, but we were so disgusted that we did not accept their offer.
I sincerely wish this restaurant and the staff all the best in their food making endeavors. I hope that they take our comments as an opportunity to alter their recipes for the better. Good luck! read more
