Nothing fancy for me, just a clean up and trim to try and hide or minimize my grey hair that my kids give me. Always good chatter on the latest topics whether it be movies or a concert (she is probably the only person that goes to more shows than me) a good shampoo and scalp massage ain't too shabby to wrap up the visit! The shop is kind of small, but not like you are all up in each others conversations. Parking is mostly metered and I can get in an out pretty cheap, but don't start over booking her now that you read my review, no really. read more

Today was my second time with Valerie and it was as amazing (or maybe even better) than the first time earlier in the year. She is now in her own salon suite downtown and I felt at home right when I walked in! It is a small space, but perfect for a client and Valerie to work together. Also let me just add that the decoration and design of the space has such a unique charm to it, I love every single corner! Having a more intimate setting is also wonderful for great conversations and a sense of peacefulness. As everyone have already talked about in this review, Valerie is AMAZINGLY talented. I literally called her my hair fairy and squealed when I saw the final results. I came in with a general idea of what I wanted and she really took her time to listen to my needs. Both times that I have seen her she has made recommendations based on what I wanted and how it fits with my lifestyle and the quality of my hair. My focus was to bring my hair back to life and keep it healthy and I love how she honored that throughout the process and with recommendations of hair care and products afterwards. I also feel that it is important to mention that Valerie is also great at making you feel comfortable overall and respects what you want to do with your time in the salon. I personally had a lot of fun talking to her for hours, but she is also very mindful if you prefer to read a book or keep to yourself instead. I will definitely be going returning and staying loyal to her as my hair fairy! read more

Had to review again, because I just can't get over how happy and grateful I am to have found my go-to, local hair stylist!! Valerie is just the sweetest and so incredibly attentive. She really listens to what you want and does a beautiful job. I didn't realize she wasn't feeling too well today until the end of my session and I felt so bad that I had her come in!! :( But that did not stop her from being committed and making sure she still produced her best! And I so appreciated that. I got a cut and color and I absolutely loved it, as always, when done by Valerie. As mentioned in my previous review, I have been disappointed by SO many stylists. Thus, I tend to have very high standards and am very picky with those who do my hair (especially Asian hair!!) But I highly reccommend Valerie to anyone and everyone! She is perfect!! read more

Valerie does an amazing job every single time I see her. I love her input on my far fetched ideas (She gave me a warning but I didn't listen). I can trust her to do whatever she wants, because I know I will love it. She knows me well enough to do my hair in a way that it works for me. She didn't judge my copper tones that had taken over my over-processed hair. She got to work immediately. She updated my long layers, massaged my head with sulfate free shampoo, and conditioned my hair back to life. Not only did she provide the best bayalage color, she also customized the color to my exact specifications. All the while, she makes sure you're super comfy with a glass of wine and provides the best girlfriend conversations. As previously stated, Valerie is highly skilled in hair coloring and gives the best advice on preserving your new color. With her level of expertise, her pricing for hair coloring and trims are very reasonable. In addition, to ensure your color stays on fleek for many occassions, she offers a touch up on color for $35! Her salon is inside Phenix Salon and towards the end of the hall. You'll see her clever logo (Hairdo or Dye) and black/white polka dotted walls. Ariana was so awesome. I'm a simple person who needs a simple trim with layers. She listened (which for some people seems to be hard) and my hair looks exactly how it should. Yesterday I made my first visit to Bolt salon. The Salon is located in the sweetest area of the Long Beach, east village/art district. Bolt salon is super clean and designed very modern with a super rad gold glitter bathroom floor! Valerie (salon owner and hairstylist) made my hair a beautiful blonde balayage. I walked in with 6 month old out grown highlights that were brassy and copper in color. Valerie worked her magic and I left feeling gorgeous with healthy hair. I recommend Bolt salon and of course Valerie. She was very patient with me, she listened to my hair concerns and needs, and she gave me awesome styling tips. First of all, instead of justifying yourself to look good in front of your clients, why don't you at least admit that you ruined my hair and apologize? it wasn't the color only, who puts red coloring when the client ask for a blonde balayage? My hair ended up looking like a dirty rust orange and really dry and breaking when when I got home. I'm the type of person that does not like to be rude even when people do a bad job but let me tell you after going to another hair salon and seeing that in just 1 session they did it perfect, I see how lousy you guys can be especially that you suggested 2 more sessions to complete your special service that cost almost 600 more to achieve "Salon Perfection". And btw, I didn't mention my baby and my husband in my last review, but since you did (it seems they bothered you that much), let me tell you that by saying "drop your baby he's going to be fine" it's not funny, that's not a joke, and you call him fat in a sarcastic way and they didn't feel welcome at all, you looked pissed they were there in your small salon, that actually it wasn't that small and even if it was small there was like no one there. I've been going to Valerie for the past 2-3 years and I knew from the first visit, she was a keeper. She has a great sense for what works and won't work for your type of hair. I have straight, thick, Asian hair- and to be honest, it's difficult to find a stylist who understands Asian hair- Asian stylists included. I gradually went from a long layered to mid-layered bob and she was able to get the long, shaggy bob I really wanted but wasn't sure was achievable. She looked at the picture and determined that not only was it possible but easy to do. She was right! She walked me through the process so I would know how to do it when I went home and told me to come back if I had any questions or needed another demonstration. I never hesitate to ask for her advice. She is so helpful and willing to show me how to style my hair to ensure that I know what to do when it's my turn at the curling iron. She even texted a couple of days after my cut to follow up and answered all my questions. Talk about accessible!
