I dined here with coworker last two weeks and it was impressed me enough to come back this time. I came at lunch time and it wasn't that crowded but it took 10 minutes for the waitress to take my order and looked like she went around the restaurant and took other orders as well at the same time. Another 25 minutes passed before I got my order. I ended up asking for a take out box and the bill because I ran out of time for lunch. I ordered beef chow fun and getting chicken instead when I ate at my office. For the price I paid versus the taste, it wasn't worth it. Next time if I have a urge to eat at this place again it will be pick up order unless I have more time. I definitely will come back to try different foods but this time is a dude for me. read more

I've been going here for over 5yrs and yes the quality has gone down but I love the ahi tuna salad and never had a problem before. I ordered my salad for pick up and once I got home and started to eat the salad I discovered the strand of hair. Initially seeing the hair I recorded myself pulling it out of the fish because I knew it would be a possibility they would say it was my hair, even though I have GREEN dreadlocks. I was a little irritated because I had to leave my house to take it back but Ive worked in several restaurants and I know things happen. Once I got back to Bok Choy the hostess took it back to be remade and I sat at the bar. I saw the owner come up to talk her and they pointed at me but I just continued to wait. She brought me back my salad and I asked would I be getting a refund, the owner came and told me that it was my hair (because I'm black but I have green dreadlocks) even after showing him the video he still said it wasn't there fault and that I was lying. It was completely prejudice and disrespectful to say it was my hair and that I was lying because I'm a black person with natural hair even after showing him the video. I've never been to any restaurant where if there is hair found esp with video evidence where they don't remake it, offer you a refund but then to also accuse someone of lying just to get a refund. Even after the owner walked away with the remade salad in his hand I showed the video to the hostess and she said that she can see that the hair came out of the fish. Please do not go here and get hairy salads or support an owner who can't own up to their mistakes and who will also make insensitive and prejudice remarks to a long time paying customer. I wanted sushi and my first choice restaurant was closed for my late lunch time so I decided to give this place a try. The bartender was nice and was quick to get my drink and miso. Also, he let me order the sushi lunch special even though it was just past the time frame. The miso was good, though it had too much chunk to it for my preferences. The sushi was just OK. The maki rolls I ordered were terrible!. There was no flavor, barely any fish and overkilled with mushy rice. Seriously, the worst maki I have ever had. Not worth the cost. I have been to this restaurant numerous times and highly recommend it. They use soy paper in the sushi, upon request. They have an awesome Pho Bowl. They don't always have it on the menu, but they usually make it for me special. The service has been good every time. read more

First off, the place isn't that cheap. I found this randomly when I failed to make reservations anywhere for Valentine's Day. Of course, I fibbed and told the girlfriend I made sushi reservations. OH CRAP?!?! A quick Google sent us to Wok 'N Fire. The atmosphere feels a little chain-y at first. My girlfriend and I ordered a random bunch of Sushi rolls. I've never had a bad roll here, but we were blown away (and for $17 we should be) by the Winter Dragon roll. Honestly, outside of San Francisco this is my favorite sushi place. Their "hot" entrees are great as well. I've had seven or so dishes and my favorite is the Sesame Chicken which comes with mangoes on it. Also, the double pan friend noodles are terrific as well. Their fried banana desert is incredible, but I've only been hungry enough to order it twice. Expect a $60 - $80 tab for two people if you plan to eat a solid mean. read more

Where's the flavor?--I got the sweet and sour wok-dish with chicken. A handcrafted ginger-ale which was pretty good. And the apple ginger dessert. The presentation was nice but upon further review--it had enough rice to feed a small village, it also came with (what looked like 2 whole cooked) fresh peppers and onions with a few shredded carrots, 5-6 pieces of pineapple and not enough chicken. The flavor was okay. There definitely wasn't enough sauce to cover the Sahara desert's worth of rice on my plate. I've definitely had better, but it tasted fresh which was nice. I'll be honest- for quite some time, Wok n' Fire was my go to place for sushi in the burbs. I never get anything else here in regards to entrees so I can't give much guidance in that direction, but nearly every single sushi roll I have had here is very good. I have probably had nearly every roll on the menu up to this point. If you eat in the bar, you can get half priced apps and sushi depending on the time and day. Service: the service is always good here, even when it gets busy! Appetizers: The coconut shrimp are my favorite, but I also get the miso soup as well. Both are wonderful to snack on while waiting for the sushi to come out. Sushi: Wonderful. If you order a spicy roll, you are going to taste some heat and good flavor, just how I like it! Each roll has a distinct flavor to it, nothing tastes fishy either. The sauces are good, the fish are good, some of the special rolls are exotic. I have not had a bland roll here before. I am highly picky about my sushi, but I find the flavor here to be distinct. While I have had better sushi at other local places, this place definitely keeps up as a spot I don't mind getting sushi at! The rolls are a little small here, so the more people that are involved, the more rolls you are going to need to get. For 2 people we often get 4-5 rolls. The sake is also good, my boyfriend and I will often get a sake flight here when we are looking for a good buzz with our meals. All in all, this is a decent place to go get your sushi fix. Wok 'n Fire is a pan-asian (already a star down) restaurant that puts your money into its fancy decor and club-like music, rather than into your food. Boo. Let's start with entree prices. The prices here are horrendous for what you get. I ordered the kung pao chicken stir-fry, and it was no better than any hole-in-the wall place around here. Here's the catch, the modestly sized plate was priced at 13 bucks. If you want the stir-fry, please visit Mapo Restaurant down on Naperville for bigger portions that you can share family style, and much better food. For drinks we had the Morimoto Soba Ale (a brew by Rogue), which was surprisingly good with plenty of hops. In addition we also had a bottle of Haiku Tokubetsu Junmai, which is definitely one of the safer sakes on the menu. The drink menu pushes the TYKU Junmai (with a half-page of bs tasting notes) for $80. If you want sake take that $80, go up to Mitsuwa Supermarket up in Schaumburg, and buy a Kubota Hekiju. The food was pretty bad as well. the spring rolls skins were under-steamed resulting in a unpleasant taste. My main course was boring, and served with undercooked rice. I know people enjoy the decor of the place, and that can be one reason why it was packed, but I wonder: does the general public actually know the difference between good and bad food? Or does Marketing determine everything? I thought I was gracious, 2 stars. ps. I always see comments on yelp exclaiming the freshness of the fish. I'm not sure how reviewers can actually ascertain the freshness of the fish when it is hacked into pieces and stuff into a roll with _______ (fill in favorite roll ingredients here) and ______ (fill in favorite spicy mayo sauce here). Time to update my review of Wok 'n Fire and it is still 4-star worthy. We have caught the special happy hour deal on a few occasions and it is a solid value. On Mon, Tues, Thurs & Fri from 4:00 to 7:00 PM you can order Maki rolls and apps for 50% off. Additionally, they have 20 ounce Sapporo's for $3. The sushi and sashimi are good quality and it's easy to make a meal out of the apps and rolls. Recently, 3 of us dined and ordered 2 apps, 3 rolls, hot sake and 4 Sapporo's. The bill was just under $46. The only downside is that the happy hour deal is only good in the bar area which is pretty small. Inside was brown and lime green decor, with hints of Asian accents. I think they tried too hard to make it look "cool", but not enough time on their menu. Their non-sushi offerings are slim, and the teriyaki chicken was gross. We asked our waiter for suggestions on what to get, based on other likes/dislikes. He had none. It's the usual big-box atmosphere like what you get at Pei Wei Asian Diner and at PF Chang. But the aromas made the restaurant smell less of a buffet cafeteria and more like some good food was being prepared in the kitchen. Per recommendation from one of my friends, I ordered Schezuan tilapia. Served with brown rice, spinach, and in a Schezuan sauce with red peppers, onions, broccoli, and mushrooms, lunch had a wow factor that left me weak in the knees. Because it was lunch and it was quick, I didn't get around to sampling more from the menu. I shall have to return and perhaps I'll be able to give at least 4 stars. Not the best service when the bartender is also serving as a waiter. We had to flag him down each time we needed something, he hardly ever checked on us. The restaurant is pretty dark and the hostess went around closing the blinds. The sushi was mediocre and don't get the potstickers/dumplings, they were awful. This place is horrible. Just garbage. The staff is clueless and management is ill-equipped to run the operations of a restaurant at the most basic level. They are open to receiving orders but don't have the ability to turn on a tablet to receive them. Our team was waiting over two hours for lunch only to find out BOK CHOY hasn't even started preparing it. The restaurant business isn't for everyone. My suggestion is to close immediately, pack your belongings, and enroll in your local university. I pray that you find a career that suits you because the one your in clearly does not. read more

I was on vacation in the Illinois area and the hotel we were staying at suggested this place for us to eat on our first night. We walked in and the scenery and atmosphere were very pleasant. The asian feel was welcoming and we were soon taken to our seats. After about 15-20 minutes our waiter asked us what we wanted. We ordered and while the place wasn't very crowded we still had to wait 45-50 minutes for our meal. The food itself was quite good however. My main course was shrimp fried rice. The shrimp was well cooked and soft, not very crunchy which does depend on taste. The rice was good but it wasn't any better than your average rice. I also tried of tea which I don't recall the name(I just took a taste of a family member's) and it was perfect. I only take the one star off for the long wait but this place is defintley worth your time. read more

I got the maki roll sampler it was $13.95($7 after discount) it had a 4 piece of : california roll, philidelpia roll, spicy tuna roll, and avacado roll They were all delious, nothing real special to make it stand out but very satisfying to eat. The service was on par- nothing special, but still never left alone for very long time. Underwhelming. If you are used to Asian food without authentic flavors, spices (ie. nothing more than teriyaki, soy, etc.), you just may find yourself satisfied by the cuisine here. I, however, was incredibly underwhelmed. We had the crab cake hand roll appetizer, which was the best thing I tasted all evening. My entree was the kung pao noodles with shrimp, which was one of the most underwhelming renditions of kung pao I've ever had. I was hesitant to order sushi, which is what I really wanted, but I was thinking it'd be underwhelming based on the type of restaurant this is. In hindsight, I may have been better off with the sushi, though it seemed overpriced. Also, the lighting was poor - there were no lights on or above our booth. Very dark. I live a mile from here and never went, mainly from the negative reviews from Yelp and from friends. Then I bought a Groupon and just went today. Wow, I was pleasantly surprised. I had no issues with the service, it was good. The food was amazing. I had the calamari and lettuce chicken wraps for an appetizer. It was the best calamari I've had except that the dipping sauce seemed to be made from ketchup :-/ I got the Jun Roll and Anti Pasto roll, both very good. The maki ingredients sound interesting, but the food itself falls short of excellent. Everything feels warm, loose and bland. We tried: Spicy California roll: Where's the spicy? Mamma's roll: The best of the bunch, but seriously overpriced Mexico roll: Two kinds of tuna, plus jalapeno and cilantro, sounded great. It was just ... bad. Two things Wok 'n Fire does well: hand rolls and dessert. Ask the chef what specialty hand rolls are available. They won't be listed on the menu. I loved this place. When you first walk in you walk into an tent like entry way. I assume there has been an issue with wind because it doesn't seem to belong. The inside was so cute! It had a traditional look and feel. I absolutely loved the decor. My friend and I went for lunch. We arrived at about 11:45 am and were seated immediately. It was pretty empty. The waitress greeted us as soon as we were seated, took our drink orders and asked if we had any questions. I decided on a green tea for my drink. It came out in a cute little tea pot with a small tea glass. Why didn't I take a pic.. sigh. I ordered the Kung Pao with Chicken. It was Firey Fresh and Good! The food arrived fast and the ingredients looked and tasted so fresh! I enjoyed it! During lunch my friend and I fell deep into conversation. By the time we looked up the place was packed with people! This to me says a lot about the flow and acoustics of the place overall. Despite the place being packed, it never felt loud. Finally had the guts to try this place after so many times of just passing by it. Went there for dinner with the family. Impressed by the ambience from the get go. Waiter was attentive but not overly suffocating. Service was fast and sushi was impressive. I ordered Pad Thai and I would say, I have tasted better. Same with my husband's chicken dish. If it wasn't for the great server I'd go one star. Wok n Fire was my favorite and we had their food sometimes twice a week. The appetizer plate was Costco spring rolls, overcooked coconut shrimp, and lousy crab Rangoon. The sushi tasted like the rice had been refrigerated overnight. My friend had double fried noodle stir fry and it looked fresh but all veggies very little meat. Even worse paper plates and tacky flimsy plastic forks. Come on. All this for 80.00. Come on, other restaurants are using real place settings. I'll pass. So disappointed. read more

They said yes. 20 min past when the food was to arrive, called again and said the restaurant never received our order. Left on hold for over 20 min. You then tell this service you have no internet? We first went to this location back in 2012/13 I believe, looking for sushi of course. As of August 2014 we've gone weekly for the happy hour on Tuesdays. Sometimes it is really busy and you may have to wait for a seat but usually if there isn't a table there are seats at the bar though it is a small seating area. The actual dining room is more spacious if you want to order off the regular menu. We usually get one appetizer, two drinks, and 4 traditional maki rolls all for 1/2 price. Bill isn't over $30 (pre-tip) and we're full! Today was especially busy so I wanted to finally leave a review because even though we had to wait for food it was awesome as usual. Jamie is our usual waitress and we were glad to see Jeanna helping her out up there because of the crowd. Thumbs up on their service. Crab cake handrolls were tonight's appetizer. They took a while but were still warm. The crab cakes shaped like small mozzarella sticks atop some warm sushi rice with bean sprouts wrapped in a rice paper and a dollop of spicy mayo. Delicious! I highly recommend their Hong Kong calamari appetizer. It is a tolerable spice level (high end of mild which I prefer), calamari itself isn't deep fried but very good in the sauce with some veggies. Their miso soup isn't on the appetizer menu so is never half price but totally worth it as it is about double the size of most places' serving. We've tried every traditional maki they have except the avocado (it is on top of several rolls anyway). We enjoy them all and think they're all top notch, we just have those we prefer due to fish preferences. Our favorite spicy one is the Crazy roll. We pair it with the Tiger which is topped with avocado to keep our mouths from being on fire. Spider and Philly rolls are both regulars on our order as well. All hot dishes we've had here are good, but we haven't had many yet. Ginger beef wok-tossed is awesome as well as the Bangkok garlic. Grilled Wasabi Salmon is a favorite of the chef specials and not too spicy despite the name (I'm sure you could amp it up by request). Overall we've really come to love this place, obviously. Highly recommend it and we bring any guests who want Asian/Sushi fare. read more

The Tuna was fresh as were the avocados and they were served on a crispy tostada like shell with an amazing sauce. 2.
