Small town charm meets big city cuisine, in a rustic, vintage building. Service was outstanding,…read moreas were the drinks and food. The hardest part was choosing a drink from the aptly named, southern inspired menu. Should I have the Hell in a Handbasket, Mama's Switch, or a That'll do Pig? You can't go wrong. Sized were much larger than expected and priced far below similar type restaurants we have patronized in larger towns. For dinner, I had the filet, medium rare, and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked. That shouldn't make a restaurant stand out, but based on recent experiences, it was a delight. Dessert was a hot bread pudding accompanied by vanilla ice cream. Superb. Stop by this gem of a place if you are in the area. Lots of cute shops nearby, too.

Hands down the best around. Perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside, and seasoned just right. It's one of those meals you start craving again the next day.

From a former fan of the Happy Egg until they implemented a so-called credit card fee (something…read morethey had not done last year) after introducing their new menus early in 2026. In speaking with others in the restaurant business, they say included in the menu price is not only their food costs, but also all their overhead costs - including credit card processing fees - so begs the questions, why do some places add a fee for using a credit card? So I did a bit of research, and here is what I found: NC is moving toward tighter regulations A 2025 bill (House Bill 13) proposes: * A 2% cap on surcharges * Mandatory disclosure at the entrance and point of sale * A ban on surcharges if the business only accepts credit cards It hasn't fully passed yet, but it has momentum. If it becomes law, it will standardize what restaurants can charge and how they must disclose it. Check whether the fee applies to all cards If the restaurant charges the same fee for: * debit cards NOTE: Happy Egg, my server told me, charges 4% to use a Debit Card * credit cards * even prepaid cards ...that's a red flag. Why: Debit card processing is much cheaper. Charging the same fee across the board suggests the fee isn't tied to actual processing costs -- it's just extra revenue layered on top of already‑priced‑in costs. Look for "cash discount" language If the receipt says: * "Non‑cash adjustment" (Happy Egg charges 4% to use a credit card) * "Cash discount applied" ...but the menu prices are already high, it often means: * the "cash discount" is just the real price, * and the card price is inflated on top of it. This is one of the most common double‑dip setups. How to spot when a 6. Watch for restaurants that only recently added a fee If you've been going to a place for years and suddenly see: * a new 3-4% fee * with no change in menu prices ...it's very likely they simply added the fee without adjusting their pricing structure. The simplest rule of thumb If a restaurant: * never lowered menu prices, * adds a credit‑card fee, * and charges the same fee for all cards, you're almost certainly seeing double dipping. restaurant is double dipping

There were a ton of people at this restaurant - the parking lot was massive and we STILL had to park in the grass!! And people have good taste! Like what I said, the food was great! The restaurant is also large. We had to wait about 25 minutes, but that wasn't too bad. We got seated and service was a little slow, but that was ok because of the 'rush hour traffic' going on at the restaurant. Once our server did get to us, she was great! We got the bloomin' onion as an appetizer. YES, they have a bloomin' onion. We love those things, and had to get one. Theirs is pretty good! The sauce is pretty close to Outbacks, and is not too greasy. I was surprised at how tender their Filet Mignon was. It was great! The sweet potato casserole is like a dessert (so good)!! And Mac and cheese is pretty ok as well. They gave us a ticket at the end of our meal for free ice cream for all 6 of us!! (Of course we had to use it since it's free). They have a shop to the left tucked away from the restaurant, with ice cream, shirts, a parrot, and many old timey merchandise! The blueberry cheesecake ice cream had good flavor, and had good texture! Not too icy. If you're in the area, come dine at Cody Creek! You will enjoy your experience.
