We've been getting amazing apples and stone fruit from the Maynard farms at the Williamsburg…read morefarmers market for years. But last fall, we had an experience at the orchard itself that we will never forget. We had the best day walking for hours around the beautiful orchard and picking apples. On the way back to the car with our big bag of fruit we realized that neither of us had the key to the car! It must have dropped at some point in the orchard. We were doomed! There was no way we were going to find a small car key within the fields. We walked around for a while looking and gave up we were about to call for a tow. Then we came upon one of the farmers driving the tractor, and showed him the only picture we had taken that entire day. He looked at it for a few seconds and went off in search of the key. 10 or 15 minutes later, we saw him calling for us in the distance. As we got closer, we saw him laughing and shaking his head - amazingly, he had found the needle in the haystack, and we were saved! That day we also got to meet his daughter and grandson, who were taking a ride on his tractor through the orchard and picking apples of their own. Maynard's apples and stone fruit worlds above any of the others we can find in the area, and we stock up every Saturday. But in addition to the quality of the fruit, the farmers are all so nice and always let you taste what's in season before you purchase. And after this experience, it was clear to us that Maynard farms is truly family and community-oriented organization, and made us even happier to buy our fruit from them every week. Thank you for everything! See you on Saturday ;) Love, Melissa and Sami

The food is fresh and simply tastes better than your usual city grocery store offering. The animals are well cared for and when you walk the grounds you can tell the farm is organized and properly run. My son had a blast watching the sheep grazing on the hill, the flock of geese marching around with the lead goose barking orders, the cute farm dog (boxer) and the hen house complete with a rooster crowing and guarding his peeps! The market has tons of different types of meats so bring a cooler and load up! The grounds are extensive so we didn't get to see the other animals. Meat wise you can taste the difference and although it's pricey you get what you pay for! Awesome stop if your in the area.

My husband took me as a birthday present last year, and it was so good that we had to go back again and I felt compelled to shared why. Victoria Balentine is the owner of the farm and the yoga instructor, and I cannot rave about her enough. She used to be a yoga teacher in NYC and, in addition to goat yoga, she is currently practicing as a wellness healer licensed in acupuncture and other holistic healing medicines. For that reason, she comes from a place of true genuine care and has such a great vibe. She has such a calming presence and she makes sure that everyone was comfortable and had ample goat experience. The goat yoga class itself PHENOMENAL. The goats were incredibly playful and affectionate, and it was so relaxing to do yoga while surrounded by them. Having them around while practicing yoga truly brings out your inner child :) After the yoga class, I took a farm tour with Victoria and her husband, where I learned all about the baby yoga goats as well as their mothers! The goat mothers were so sweet I couldnt tell you if the babies or mothers were cuter! We also met her adorable chickens and saw them laying eggs! She showed us how she milks the goats and makes a variety of amazing cheeses. She also grows all her own food and eats completely seasonally. I was so inspired by the humane and sustainable farming practices that the farm uses that every since then my husband and I have tried to adopt a seasonal diet and eat local whenever possible. Overall, I had such an incredible time at the goat yoga farm and farm tour with cheese tasting that we came back again the next year. This is an experience I highly recommend to everyone! Here are some of the things I loved most about my experience: The goats were so adorable and playful and bring out your inner child The yoga class was relaxing and fun. The goat yoga teacher/farm owner is phenomenal and inspirational The farm tour was so interesting and beautiful The cheese tasting was delicious. The farm is committed to humane and sustainable farming practices. It is what it says it is! Garlic galore! I could just go on…read moreand repeat everything all the past reviewers have said, but I'll let you read them yourselves. Parking on site was $10 on site and thanks to the weather we got a spot close to the entrance. I purchased tickets on line but you could get them at the gate. Now for the festival itself. First off, it took place in the middle of a Nor'easter, so that kept the crowds down... not to say it wasn't busy. there were quite a few of us diehards to braved the elements! The rain wasn't to bad... passing showers and a brief downpour. But the wind! Hold on to your hats (or tents...which many vendors had to do)! Lots of different local farms selling and offering samples of their garlic and garlic products. All the farmers I talked to were friendly, helpful and informative and you could tell they love growing garlic! They explained the different styles, flavor differences and growing tips and despite the weather, all were in good spirits! Now there wasn't just garlic bulbs... there was cheese, pickles, honey, dipping and hot sauces, kim chi, pesto and fudge to name a few... most involving garlic in some way (yes, even the fudge)! Hungry? Garlic chowder, garlic hamburgers, mac and cheese, pizza, empanadas and more! Definitely something for everyone. There were also plenty of vendors selling garlic themed items such as hats, t-shirts, jewelry and more along with arts and crafts vendors. It can be a long day on your feet so wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to leave with all your garlic needs met!

My group arrived probably at the height of the event (Saturday - noonish) and there was a long line at every food vendor. The festival was much larger than expected and we were there for a good 3 hours. There is live music scattered around the venue and lots of samples from the vendors. You can probably go through the festival within an hour when the crowd is more manageable (very early or later in the day).

And I can continue to quote much chapter and verse of this posthumous writing as the writing is near and dear to my heart - the gallantry shown at Fort Christina and more, the true founders of New York and I wish the good Peter Styversant were here today to drop a heap of learning about America on you who don't understand not just NY history, but America! Love it or be gone. Arriving at 5:45, I hadn't inquired as to what time the first tee ball hits the air, turns out it's about 8:00am. So I practiced my sneaky bump and runs, flips and flops and Texas toe downs. And player worth his salt has to know a multitude of great escape shots. So I lead the field being put out as a single with twins and fours amassing behind me and being 2 years removed from the short grass (due to injuries) I was a bit nervy on the 1st tee, nobody knew who I was, everyone else knew each other. Fortunately I ripped a low 3 iron cut stinger and I was off, still walking and carrying my bag, adding layers and subtracting layers as it was nippy in the mountains. I love the classic shallow and square bunkering design originally popular with architecture from the 20's and 30's. The greens rolled true but I couldn't buy a putt, not much break out there and putting off the second collar is doable. The fairways were in the shape to be expected for early season golf, what I should have done was pay closer attention to the unseen creeks that protected some greens and ran out along the sides. But I was the first player and I needed to set a good pace out there. Overall, the course played extremely fair, I can't give the staff enough credit for such fine service for me, attentiveness and extremely friendly.

We weren't entirely sure if he would ever be able to play golf again, so it was an amazing feeling to get out and hit a few balls with him last year. My father is doing much better now (physically at least, not that much better at golf), and so we try and get out whenever possible. This adds up to a couple times a year here when I'm in town, and accordingly, I am very, very bad at golf. Please believe that no one is mistaking Rip Van Winkle for something that belongs on the PGA Tour. When Greene County hasn't gotten enough rain, you may see a few brown spots out there. It's only nine holes, and generally pretty flat. However, it's an accessible, family-run place that I feel lucky to be able to play. It's affordable (kids play free too), and has my kind of casual vibe. I love that if I forgot to pack a collared shirt, they don't hassle me. My dad says the owner John is a great guy, and I like that his teenage son is often riding around tidying up the course. It's a true family biz. They do a good job too; the greens are well-maintained, the mountain backdrop is gorgeous, and you can't be sad about any day you spend trying to knock a little white ball around a beautiful grassy area. I suppose I can be sad about how poorly I do it, but I'm pretty happy here overall.

The male tour guide was underwhelming to say the least. He did admit that it was his first tour. I believe for Church's 200th birthday exhibition, a paying customer would've expected the guide to give an overview on the artist and a description of his paintings.
