Wow! What an experience. Twice!
On my first visit to Dr. Bohman's office, after my exam I was escorted into I guess a business office or whatever and given a hard sell on all of this dental work that supposedly needed to be done. OK, whatever. I wasn't planning on ever going back again anyway, since I didn't feel that the dental hygienist did a very good job cleaning my teeth. I ended up going back to Los Angeles to my usual hygienist. Yes, she is definitely worth the trip if you want clean teeth. :-)
Fast forward a year later. Due to some extreme stressors in my life, I have become a class A teeth grinder. So bad, in fact, but I actually broke a crowned tooth and it fell out of my darn head. So I called Dr. Bohman's office and they set up an appointment for me five days hence. I had to walk around with a gap tooth for five days. Anyway, once I got there, she did an exam and they told me that they would have to make a crown for the tooth and that it was going to cost something like $4150. I asked if they could temporarily cement my crown back in and she said she would do so for $103, but, "there are no guarantees. I can't guarantee you that you'll make it from this dental chair up to the front desk without that tooth falling right back out."
I suspected that it was a scare tactic to get me to say that I would go forward with a very expensive new crown, so I told them I was going to seek a second opinion. I called my former dentist in Los Angeles - Dr. Fruhling, who is the greatest - and they said they would see me the same day. So I drove down to LA and he made me a temporary crown, which only cost $67, and told me that when I was ready to put a permanent one in, if they made it in-house it was going to cost me something like $1150, and if they had to send it out it was going to cost me something like $1650. He also expressed amazement that Dr. Bohman would let me walk around gap toothed for five days. He said that he would always squeeze people in my situation into his schedule because he knew how demoralizing it is to walk around missing a tooth.
So this is a twofold yelp review... You can read between the lines what I think of Dr. Bohman and her office, and seriously, I know it's crazy, but treat yourself to a trip to Los Angeles to see my dentist, who I have always recommended to everybody, Dr. Fruhling. (Once, when my mom was visiting from out of town, she broke her tooth on a tortilla chip and even though his office was closed, he had me bring my mom in, he took care of her, and didn't even charge us.) He and his staff are the greatest and definitely worth the trip! I have referred several people to him in the past when I lived in LA, and they have always loved him. Tell him I sent you! :-) read more
