I called in to get a quote on sharpening a large reamer The gentleman I talk to declined to sharpening the the tool. When I asked if he could refer some one who could help me he said (No i'm going to keep the information for myself) and then he hung up on me. I WILL NEVER REFER ANYONE TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN! I am a student at a wodworking college and I was reffered to brian boggs from a class mate and instructor. Our first exchange was pleasant and I spent $200 dollars at his establishment = 4 rasps- american nicholsons #49 & #50(the 50 was not a nicholson like he had said but it was american and its held up nicely). the price was a little steap but I was in a pinch and needed them for a class at college of the redwoods. Being somewhat pleased with his service, of course, I returned when I needed more files I needed 6 -10" mill flats "smooth" and "2nd" cut files a box of 2extra slim tappers 4" or 6" a box of slim tapers 6" tapers for pannel saw sharpening ?" and whatever else he may have suggested. I am a little prejudice and wanted american files(which are made out of better materials, and cost more) which he did not have in half of the things I was inquiring about. (this is when he became testy) But was well able to orderthem.. I would have even paid a premium so I did not have to order a whole box.. athough I was already talking about ordering 2 full boxes of files anyway right off the bat. In the middle of all of this he exclaimed"you caught me in the middle of lunch, my food is getting cold, you will just need to deal with whatever I send you or call me after I get back in a week" (he didnt need to take my call during his lunch, he has an answering machineand I got last time, if he is unable to send an order out fine its friday at noon..just tell me,and if this is to much work for you to do.. then why are you still working you grumpy old man?) of course I want quality files or else I would go to ace hardware and not order them thru the mail. so I cancled the order and he hung up on me.(really hard I might add I hope he damaged his phone) I am sorry for supporting this small local business trust me, it wont happen again. read more

I couldn't ask for more when it came to finding what I needed here. I assumed I talked to the owner when I placed my order. He was very helpful with my needs. I've search everywhere in the Los Angeles area for a place where I can get my flat files and rotary files sharpened, and BINGO!!!!!, I've found the perfect place. Not only did they get my sharpening needs done, with good pricing and delivery, but I also was able to get new files that are of high quailty and not something you get at Sears or Lowells or a Home Depot. I'd heard about Boggs from people on woodworking and metalworking forums but was unaware they sell new files as well as sharpen used tools until recently. I called them because I not only needed some files, I needed advise on which files would be most useful for my work as I'm trying something new to me. The owner took quite some time to explain what I needed even though he knew I was only placing an order for a couple of files. I not only learned what I set out to learn, but some things I didn't know to ask. My order arrived quickly. I paid less for two really good files and shipping for less than I paid for two really awful ones from the large chain here in Berkeley. They arrived quite quickly. One of the two files was a surprise: I asked for a good used file of a certain type, he sent a perfect condition NOS file of better quality/make than the one I expected, and the total was a few dollars LESS than he'd quoted over the phone. I found both Mr. Boggs and the lady who answered the phone very helpful and friendly. I've read the harsh review and can't really speak to it other than to say my experience was quite different. The second time I called was just after my order arrived - I believe he thought I was calling with a complaint due to the way I phrased my question, yet he still responded in a friendly manner. To be clear, it wasn't a complaint, I just didn't understand something about one of the files. Files, I've come to learn, really do come in a range of quality. The big US manufacturers have been moving their factories overseas and the quality has in some cases dropped hugely. Some of those files I've bought locally have been near useless. NOS, therefor, is a good thing, not a bad thing. I will definitely return for more and will try their sharpening service as well, and I'll recommend them - as I am here. I dropped off 5-6 rasps to be sharpened unsure of what the outcome would be. It didn't take them long to sharpen I think it was three days, I also bought some 1/8th" burrs when dropping off the rasps that were priced right. Well let me that that I'm a fan it was amazing the Nicholson #49 & #50 that I dropped off worked better than when they were new! Next I will be bringing in a couple of Auriou hand stitched rasps to have sharpened. read more

I have been using this service to sharpen my horseshoe rasps for over 20 years. This service is a huge cost saving to my business as a new rasp can cost $20 each and I can them resharpened much less. The rasps can be resharpened about 5 times. This could be one of the best cost saving measures that I have ever chosen. These people are great! I brought in 4 old files for sharpening. The files were rejected but they still put them through the process. They charged me .80. As in 80 cents! That's awesome. I recently purchased several used files from a garage sale and did a web search to see if these files could be sharpened. In my search results I found Boggs Tools, and information on their liquid honing process. I packaged up 15 files and sent them off to be sharpened. I received the files back within 10 days. I was very happy with the results. The price for sharpening was extremely reasonable. All in all I rate the services of Boggs Tools as high as possible. read more
