Boem is a gem. We came on Friday night around 6:30 and were shockingly the only customers. The owner's daughter was our server and was extremely kind and attentive. We both order margaritas and the balance was perfect - not too sweet and I could tell they didn't skimp on the liquor! It was happy hour and their Pollo con Tajadas was half off and did not disappoint! The chicken and plantains were cooked perfectly and the portion was huge! We also got mango ceviche and beef empanadas and both were delicious. I'm looking forward to coming back and hope more people give this place a try!

Very friendly and helpful service. Our language group came here for one of our Meetups and found ourselves alone on a Friday night. Apparently things don't get moving until after 9pm or so. The weekends showcase live music and I'm sad I left early because I heard that one of our members got to sing some songs and now I'm jealous. But at least I was back with the Balkan hospitality for a night. Huge menu, but they don't always have all of the items prepared. No big deal, they have plenty more to choose from. Bring a hearty appetite, because you will most likely have left overs. Their sopska salata was one of the best I've had in Chicagoland. I wasn't as thrilled with my pljeskavica; however, the gulas and corba looked amazing. Cevapi smelled good too. More grilled meats than you could imagine. I can't wait to try the place again. Dessert and wine list is extensive, but they only had palacinke (crepes) that night. Don't come looking for decaf coffee either. Decaf is not in the Balkan vocabulary. Get with the program and grab a cup of Turkish or a nice glass of Vranac red wine.

Hubby and I tried Boem for the first time last night and we were pleasantly suprised. My first thought was that the place was smoky and out of date (which it is) however, the service we received far outweighed the atmosphere. Our waitress was friendly and helpful as she guided us through the cuisine since we were unfamiliar with it. The service is what bumped them up to a 4 star, our waitress was really that great! We ended up both ordering a beef soup, hubby ordered the "pork" sausages cavepa (sp?) and I ordered the stuffed chicken. The beef soup had good flavor, although I gotta admit because they use chicken broth the beef tasted more like chicken than beef but it clearly was beef. It was also huge, you could order that and eat it with the bread on the table and be full. The Cavepas were very good, almost like breakfast sausage but with a middleeastern flavor. I referred to them as "prok" sausage because they say pork on the menu but they are actually beef. The chicken was pretty good, though it needed seasoning it was prepared well and the cheese sauce was great! The fries that came with both entrees were also delicious. Overall it was was a good experience and would definitely go back.

That is not real. They roast a pork and lamb on the front of you. I did not see that since 70's. Everything looks good and nice but: GARDEN? That no town have , what they have in restaurant Boem, unbelievable even for Rome, Paris and London Must see and enjoy. They are open from 11 am to 2 am and shame is, garden must bi close on 10 pm.

The Aji de Gallina (from the menu: "Chicken in walnut sauce. Served with potato, boiled egg and white rice") was incredibly good, although it didn't taste like walnuts to me. Doesn't matter, I'd get it again. Service was great, our server was very nice and attentive. We went at a random time so we were the only people there. Music was not loud or non-existent (thank you). Hoping to go back again soon!

Excellent. The pollo saltado - chicken stir fried with onions and tomatoes. The sauce poured over French fries, so they soak in all the juices. A side of white rice makes for the perfect side. Rotisserie chicken - this was the reason we came, and damn did it deliver. Incredibly moist and full of flavor. The green pepper sauce it comes with pairs perfectly. It's got a little subtle kick to it. The staff was great and super friendly. Food came out quick and was so fresh. Prices are super reasonable, and portions are large. The dining room is large and comfortable but no frills - the focus is on the food, as it should be.

Learned that the stew express meals mentioned on their website are no longer available. Update the website then? The stews with two sides are still available but their pricing has more than doubled and portions are small like lunch specials. I wonder if dining in is why most reviews are five starred. Need to try that way sometime. Ordered two stew meals. Lamb (awesome that they offer this protein) & chicken. Lamb was properly stewed and easy to eat. The chicken was boring in flavor and hardly any gravy was included. Smh. The carryout container has three sections. One for the "main" and two sides. Alas, they fill the main section with a big ass amount of rice. Then fill the side areas with stew and your second option. Stews are in the $22-26 range. They have to reconsider how they're serving. I mean, stew needs its gravy to go with all that rice and the portion should be significantly larger. Due to the niceties of their staff and the flavors, I'd check them out again. Dine-in.

So our server stated that our first-choice food selections were not available (steak jibarito and beef arepa) so instead we then ordered empanadas (one beef, one shrimp) and the chuleta valluna. We noticed that the kitchen was slingin' some massive plates of food, so we decided to split the one entree and the empanadas. Well the server comes along and says they are out of shrimp empanadas. How can a restaurant be out of so many food items when it is barely past 1PM? We decided to do just the single entree and the single empanada. I also ordered a can of Inca Kola (good stuff, though I had to beg for the drink after our food was served), and we did get some ice water. The beef empanada was AOK, not bad. The chuleta valluna features a massive flattened breaded pork chop along with many items (rice, fries, yuca fries, tostones, yellow potato, salad). The menu mentioned this dish would also have sweet plantain, but perhaps the yuca fries were a sub for the sweet plantain. I gotta admit, the food overall is pretty good. The service from the staff was pleasant, but there was always something "off" during our dining experience. When the bill came, we were charged for the shrimp empanada that was not being served, so we had to ask for a corrected bill to deduct the missing empanada. Overall we had extremely mixed feelings about our lunchtime here. Perhaps it was just a super busy day here, but I am feeling overly generous with my three-star review.
