So, I decided to get a Dexa scan so that I could verify whether or not my Hume Bodypod scale was as…read moreaccurate as Hume Health claimed. I'll cut to the chase and tell you it was surprisingly accurate, and within the margin of error, although Dexa is the "gold standard." I won't bore you with the metrics but I will bore you with the experience. First off, the location for the mobile service has ample parking and was conveniently located. The mobile van was clean, the technician - Suhban Khan was very professional and knowledgeable. Like myself, he was also a fitness coach and had solid knowledge not only with Dexa but also the leading body composition measurement devices on the market and smart scales. We had a good chat and I interviewed him briefly for the YouTube channel. If you want to watch, here's the link: https://youtu.be/eJ9x2bf5QHA?si=sytHprsQ9ydwYn-R The scan took about 10 minutes time, with 6 minutes for the scan. You just wear light, loose clothing and lay back, while the scanner passes from your head to your feet. It moves a fraction every 30 seconds. The van was mostly quiet with ambient music - felt very much like any medical setting. Is this a necessary experience for everyone? No. For most people seeking general health I would recommend getting the good habits of proper nutrition, exercise and proper rest before worrying about getting a Dexa but...it will help keep you accountable to your goals and honestly, the subscription service is pretty affordable. I enjoyed my experience and will check in again in a few months.

Did a BodySpec DEXA scan recently and it's always oddly refreshing to get actual data instead of…read morevibes from a bathroom scale. You get a clear breakdown of body fat, lean mass, and bone density in about 10 minutes [!!!]. 2% body fat drop in three months, and a body lean mass like a mountain lion? I'm blushing! But hey, that took a lot of effort and a DEXA scan simply made sure I was on the right path. In this high-cost healthcare world (*cough* USA *cough*), I'm firmly in the "prevent now, panic later never" camp. Spending a little on preventive care beats discovering problems the expensive way considering how healthcare costs are like a SpaceX rocket: up up up up up and then BOOM! No healthcare because you simply can't afford any. BodySpec? Def can afford! Fast, painless, and way more informative than guessing. If you like numbers and hate surprises, it's worth it. https://www.bodyspec.com/r/7rhbr3 Pro tip: look for coupons ;)

This review isn't for the service so much as the cost. $2000 per vaginal pregnancy ultrasound, when…read morethe national average hovers around $500. I moved to SF and found out I was pregnant. I was about 8 weeks and didn't have a doctor here, so my doctor in Chicago referred me to this center for an ultrasound. I called to see if they accepted my insurance, and they said they did. On the first visit, we didn't hear a heart beat, so naturally scheduled a follow-up for the following week, at which time we did hear one. On both visits, we did not see a doctor, just the technician, who performed the vaginal ultrasound and did not give us much information. She said she would give updates to my doctor in Chicago, who then called us with information. We switched insurance right after, due to the move and new job, and I found an OB here. At the same time, I got the bill from UCSF--$2K per ultrasound, for a total of $4K. The ultrasound had a bunch of tacked on costs, like doctor's fee (I'm guessing the tech showed it to a doctor there), facility fee, etc. Insurance said they would only cover half of each, so we're paying $2K out of pocket. To make it worse, USCF doesn't have an automated monthly billing option, so I have to log in every month which reminds me (hence this review--I just made a payment!). When we went to my first OB visit, he was going to perform an ultrasound, but I hesitated and asked how much it would cost. He said even if insurance didn't cover it, the cost would be about $300. (Insurance did cover it). This is mostly FYI for those of you that may be going there for a basic ultrasound or something, to know about the additional fees that get tacked on, which your insurance may decide not to cover. We would have been better off going to a doctor's office or something without insurance and paying out of pocket, rather than a research hospital/facility that has a lot of additional fees.

Horrifyingly poor patient-empathy. I had to schedule an emergency mammogram (which is scary enough,…read moremaybe having breast cancer) and the ladies I spoke to to schedule an appointment were quite bureaucratic and uncaring. They required I fax a detailed and 100% correct order before they would schedule me, and their process took so long that by the time I got the right order in, there were no appointments left this week (it takes 45 minutes for a fax to come through in their system!!!... that's insanely slow. It's 2019 people, how about using email? Or a bit of human connection and heart?) So now after 90 minutes on the phone with them and my dr office, I need to start from scratch elsewhere. Never coming back here - they treat their patients like just a barcode in their computer system

I was billed for services that I had already paid for, so I telephoned the billing department on 03/02/21. I explained the situation to Linda and she could not have been less interested in helping me resolve the issue, but told me that she would "investigate" and get back to me. On 03/11/21, since I never heard a word back from Linda or anyone else with Cal Imaging, I called back for an update. Unfortunately I was again connected with Linda (maybe she's the whole billing dept.?) and she was once again very dismissive and extremely curt with me. When I tried to get an understanding of what her "investigation" revealed, she hung up on me. At the end of the day medicine is about customer service and unfortunately Linda's appalling lack of regard for patients reflects negatively on the entire organization. Because of her, I will never utilize the services of this medical group again. My recommendation to management would be to provide Linda with some much needed customer service training.

We then had to spend time and money resolving the issue with the collections agency. We will never use them again and suggest others avoid them unless you pay cash in full at time of service.
