My previous CP review for West OP (135th and Antioch) was posted a few weeks ago, but I figured I…read morewould leave a review for the 87th street location. Up until 3 weeks ago, I was not going to renew my CP membership. I just was not getting what I needed exercise wise. I also found the instructors were too by the book and I just didn't feel like I belonged. However, after returning back to the 87th Street location changed my mind. Why? Inclusion and Respect: 9.5/10 I signed up for a 9a cardio sculpt class with Sandy. Upon entering, she greeted me so warmly! I was so surprised, but it was such a nice surprise. I instantly felt welcomed and the group I worked out with were personable and a lot of fun! Feel The Burn: 10/10 OMG Sandy is not afraid to go heavier on the tension and warms you up in no time! I instantly felt my muscles activating. The playlist was also fire! It was easy to stay engaged and motivated during her class! Staff Responsiveness: 9.5/10 Sandy is great about giving you feedback while pushing you to the max. She also checks in often with the class to make sure we are good. Her energy is unmatched! Also, emailing the staff here is great! They are pretty quick to respond and they are open to feedback! Class Availability: 8/10 Sandy and Callan are popular instructors, and they often have waitlists for their 1.5 and 2 classes. If you work full-time and have other scheduling obligations, you are going to be waitlisted. Your best bet is to schedule in advance if you can. Hopefully, they hire more instructors to teach the types of classes these two ladies do for more availability! Proof is in the Pudding: 9.5/10 I have been coming to CP consistently since last month and I am already seeing results! If you are looking to tone and sculpt, coming at least 4-5 days a week is your best bet. I started out coming twice a week, but increased to five. Do what you are comfortable with. I also recommend speaking with the class instructor for tips. Health is $$: No rating for this one - more of an opinion, but the unlimited CP membership is pretty pricey, especially when comparing other studios in the metro. It is a privilege to be able to pay for an expensive membership. I acknowledge that. This location offers perks - points and referral bonuses. A single class is $35 and if you like it well enough, it can add up quickly. Do your research into what you want out of Pilates and research various studios around the area. Staff Diversity: 8/10 Rebecca R. is a Black instructor who works at this and the OP West location. I am so happy to see and would love to see more instructors of color. Shoutout to Sandy for making me feel so welcome. It is hard to find a studio that is inclusive of Black and brown individuals. Overall: 9/10 This location is legit. The instructors are top notch: (Callan, Sandy, and Adrienne) It is always clean and the music is always good! I am happy I didn't stop my membership and I am beyond elated that I found Sandy!

I've been a Genesis member for about 3.5 years, and unfortunately, the Ridgeview location in Olathe…read morehas been a consistent disappointment. The only reason I've maintained my membership is because I'm a tennis player and regularly use other Genesis locations like 110th and Merriam. Ridgeview, however, is closest to my home, so I still visit in the mornings - and nearly every visit highlights ongoing issues that have never been resolved. To be fair, the staff is actually one of the bright spots. Most of them are attentive, friendly, and genuinely seem to care about members. The few who were not up to par are no longer there. This makes the situation even more frustrating, because the front-line staff is doing their part, but the overall facility conditions don't reflect their effort. Cleanliness is a major problem. The locker rooms, showers, and steam room are consistently dirty. I've personally seen trash, hair, and even toilet paper scattered across the steam room surfaces. The showers are regularly filthy, and the hot tub is frequently in unacceptable condition - cloudy, green, and foul-smelling. On one occasion, I tested the water myself and found zero chlorine or proper chemical balance, which is frankly unacceptable for a facility that markets itself as "luxury." Even basic amenities like towels are an issue. They are often stained, worn out, and sometimes visibly tattered - not what you expect from a premium-priced club. Equipment is another major problem. On any given day, it feels like only about 60% of the machines are actually functional. Broken cardio equipment, damaged weight machines, and even unsafe conditions - like equipment missing seats but still left on the floor for use - are common. It's not just inconvenient, it's dangerous. What's most frustrating is the lack of response or accountability from leadership. I've emailed staff, spoken with management, and even reached out higher up - and nothing changes. My most recent email detailing the condition of the steam room didn't even receive a response. There was recently a promise posted throughout the gym that new equipment would be installed by the end of Fall 2025. Those signs quietly disappeared in early January, and now the explanation is that they are "waiting on new flooring." This has reportedly been the excuse for years, and at this point it's hard to take seriously. This location is marketed as a premier Genesis club, but it falls well below the standard of other gyms in the Kansas City area. Even other Genesis locations, like the 135th Street club, are significantly better maintained and updated. At the end of the day, you're paying a premium price for what should be a high-end experience - and this location simply does not deliver. If you're considering a gym in the area, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Lifetime Fitness, while more expensive, at least delivers on cleanliness, maintenance, and overall quality.

Think Twice! I can…read moreonly speak from my perspective, not that matters to the management of this money grab operation. I was pressured into "discount--soon to expire pricing" for ill-conceived amenities I told them I did not need. -my bad for agreeing. Shortly after joining, equipment I needed was often broken and left as such for as long as I had been going. The AC broke and a lousy work around was put in that did not address the over heating problem. I often had to go hunting for towels, and nearly no one was cleaning their nasty sweat of of the equipment after use. I stopped going and asked to be let out due to these reasons, but of course all I got was "sorry it's policy that you have to pay an absorbent cancellation fee totaling the same the same amount as if I kept the contract. I'm not sure management has their customer in mind. I saw no one using their so called amenities, not once, I wonder why??? Perhaps it is because it is a f façade, designed to lure in customers and trick them into over paying for service. When my contract was coming to an end, they wouldn't even let me put in early notice to cancel at the end of term. No, I had to wait until a very specific day to give 30-days notice to avoids paying for extra months. Then when I called up there I was promised over the phone I would have the extra month waved, which of course was an empty promise just like everything else this place claims to offer. There are much better options out there. I encourage you to seek them out.

I love club Pilates so far!…read more I have never done Pilates so I decided to give it a try last week since the first class was free and let me tell you that I had no regrets. I had a great experience. Our instructor Amie was very knowledgeable, friendly and helped me a lot to make sure I was doing the workouts correctly since it was my first time doing Pilates.. At the end of our class, we got to meet with the owner as well and he was very welcoming. Lastly, the place was very clean and parking was not an issue at all.

I have been going to CP for a month now, and as someone who has not worked out in over a year,…read moretheir classes are a great introductory to getting back into the groove of things. I am not new to Pilates and have done it before so here is my experience and what you can expect: Location[s]: 9.5/10 CP is a national chain and here in the KC area, there are many locations - including a new spot opening in Olathe on 119th. So far, I have visited the 435 and 87th Street location and the 135th and Quivira spot. I prefer the 135th spot because the member population is more diverse and has a better vibe. The type of workout and vibe you get will vary on the location, so keep that in mind. I appreciate the cleanliness of each location and the friendliness of the staff. Pricing: 6.5/10 For an individual drop-in class it is $35. They have a free intro class where you get a 30 minute preview of a full body workout. They also give you a price breakdown at the end of class. I went ahead and signed up for a 3-month membership because I knew I needed to come at least two to three times per week. This is $259/month for 3 months. Keep in mind that your goals are dependent on what you are needing and you may not have to pay that much a month. Personally, if you are just starting out, you can attend a drop-in class once a week and supplement for other workouts. They also have a "four-pack" that you can buy. Membership Offerings: 6/10 They do not offer yearly memberships any longer and you can do a number of classes per month. 4 classes (once a week) can be about $90. 8 classes (twice a week) can be about $150. Unlimited is as many times as you want for $259/mo. Yes, it is pricey and you can definitely hit up a Planet Fitness or Crunch for way less. Instructor Vs Class Type: 5.5/10 I rated this section a little lower. Why? After a month of attending classes, I will say that some of the instructors either do not fully know the flow of the movements (I have seen some instructors looking at clipboards or seemingly pulling workouts from the thin air) or they do movements that have nothing to do with what is scheduled. For example, if I am taking a CP Suspend 1.5 class, (This intermediate workout involves TRX bands.) then I expect the class to be majority TRX workouts, not 5 minutes on the bands and the rest reformer/mat/Bosu. That is not a TRX class. That is just an elevated flow class. I also have had better luck with the more seasoned instructors because they provide more variety and you never do the same movements or flow each time you take their class. Class Offerings: 5.5/10 The classes are booked on the app and each location has 10 reformers available per class. Depending on the location, a class can start as early as 6am. The Cardio Sculpt and Suspend classes are pretty popular, and fill up quickly. I have a busy schedule working full-time and managing kids activities, so it is more difficult to find a class I want to take without waiting. The times I have waited, I was able to get on the list an hour or two on the day of, but it is like a lottery. I have also been in a full class and only half of the attendees show up. I suggest booking the classes you want to take at least two weeks in advance or take a chance and go to a full class. Chances are, you can grab a reformer if people don't show up. I would also like to see the more popular classes offered more than once a week, more than once a day. I also like the classes that start at the :30 mark instead of top of the hour. Instructor diversity & population: 8/10 There are Black instructors and I appreciate the variety of people who attend. (Young, seasoned, just starting out, advanced..) This makes for a good experience and a good vibe. I can also tell that the instructors help one another out and sub when needed. I would also love a more upbeat playlist for the cardio classes. Overall: 6.8/10 CP is a good place to start your fitness journey, but long term, it is not for me. I will stick with my the 3-month membership, but after that, I will be cancelling and attending another studio where I get more of a challenge from master instructors with better class offerings. Further, CP is quite pricey and for what you pay for a 3-month unlimited membership, it is not worth it. What would make it worth the money is: a) more seasoned, energetic instructors, and b) more class offerings, with more accommodating availability and class types. It also exhausting to try to squeeze two classes in a week when most of them are waitlisted. After some light research, there are independently own studios that have better offerings and are less expensive.

This gym is more interested in selling classes in addition to the membership. You don't have to…read morejoin the classes, but the problem is when the classes take up all the usable space and members are left with little to none. For example, youth swim lessons and water aerobics take up the entire pool area on Saturdays, making it impossible if you would like to swim laps. "Alpha" fitness classes have two areas that take up a significant portion of the upstairs gym, and they run classes constantly. On top of all this, the equipment that is left for members to use (i.e. benches and machines) are old and falling apart. I personally had a pin slip from an adjustable bench when I had it set to incline for bench press. I fell back with it and chipped my tooth. For the money you pay and for the money they add for extra classes and "events", they should really have better stuff for the general membership. It presents as though little regard is given to the overall members.

I expected discretion and proper follow-up. After reporting, I became aware of information that made me question whether confidentiality was maintained. Management attempted to discuss my complaint in public areas in front of another client rather than privately. I was passed between multiple local and corporate staff members with no clear point of contact or consistent updates. I paused my membership on December 24, 2025 and requested cancellation on February 4, 2026. After no response, I submitted a second request and ultimately canceled on February 10. Between my pause on 12/24 and my request on 2/4, I received no follow up. Between my request on 2/4 and cancellation on 2/10, a front desk employee who was unaware of the situation called to encourage me to return. I attempted to schedule an in-person discussion multiple times, but my request was not addressed. This experience caused ongoing stress and has led me to doubt Life Time's care for their members. Bottom line: Don't trust that you're valued as a member or that your voice matters.
