Being new to cupping, I had no idea what to expect and, wow, it was better than I anticipated. Amanda took her time to talk with me when I arrived to get to know me and explain the cupping process. She spent the beginning of the appointment doing a deep tissue massage, focusing on my areas of tension. This included some stretching, which felt amazing. She was very knowledgeable, commenting on reasons for tension/knots in certain areas and even knowing from massaging my neck that I clench my teeth! At the end of the massage came the cupping. Amanda used stationary cups (the traditional ones that stay in place with suction) as well as cups that she moved around, describing it as almost a "reverse massage." This was a "hurts but feels good" situation for me. I really enjoyed it, and felt like the tension in my neck and shoulders was finally relieved. Amanda suggested an epsom salt bath and rest as cupping is intended to detox the body. I took her suggestions and felt so relaxed. The cupping did leave marks but they went away in about a week. Corii led me to the massage room and we went over a series of questions to clarify a few things then got right to work! The environment was so relaxing and serene. Corii allowed me to relax and enjoy but checked in a few times to make sure I was ok. The massage was great and left me feeling so refreshed. My upper and lower back got some extra attention and it was exactly what I needed! Corii was very intuitive and was able to adjust the level of the massage to fit my needs. I let her know all this, and after an intake interview and the appropriate forms for a first visit, she went to work. It was evident to me, and she confirmed when I asked, that she not only is a massage therapist, she is a weightlifter. So she is very strong and was able to really dig in to the many problem areas in my back. At the same time, though, she has an excellent feel in her hands, so she was able to sense what my muscles needed, and no more. She also took direction well if I needed her to ease up in a sore area or to push harder than she had expected she needed to. Excellent massage, as I told her after, the best one I've ever had that didn't involve hot stones. And the equal of an amazing hot stones massage I had 11 years ago. In addition to being a superb, professional and attentive massage therapist, Tia is courteous and friendly. Lots of good cheer. And her facility is organized, well appointed, comfortable, warm and welcoming. The building she's located in, on the second floor, is somewhat rough on the exterior, But I encourage potential customers not to be put off by that. The massage you get, the person who gives it to you, plus the studio, are gold. She's a block and a half from the big court houses near the Capitol.
