FYI-they moved across the street to 3850 Charter Park Drive Body Architecture is great. If I could give ten stars, I would. I've tried crossfit, other personal trainers, insanity workout, other gyms, and no other place gives results like Body Architecture. They switch up the workouts each time so you don't get bored and your body doesn't get used to the exercises. They also have a great Saturday morning class which is the most challenging - great way to start your weekend. They have good schedule variety and even offer yoga 2x per week. I really like the small classes and personal attention. The trainers/instructors are very knowledgeable and if you are ever injured or feeling pain they'll be able to offer alternatives or exercises to correct the problem. I've been losing weight and getting more muscle and tone since starting here and I am seeing speed and strength gains in my hobby activities like cycling and running. Not just for MMA fighters-if you want to get shape come here! read more

I've been seeing Lori for 6 months and am so happy I found her! I came to Lori wanting to get in shape, but I needed to work on basic posture issues first so that I didn't hurt myself in my quest to get fit. She has a strong knowledge of the human body and its muscles and is able to modify a workout to your physical needs and ultimate goals. I'm so psyched about the progress I've made! Updated to say, I'm so thankful Lori has been able to continue my workouts online during the shelter in place. I'm able to do my full routine with limited equipment at home. It's been a life saver! read more

My original intention was to become a fighter. Since training with BAMMA, my intentions grew broader. Each class at BAMMA has its own experience. Even BAMMA doesn't know how much it has improved my life. Through their classes, I gain physical education, socialization, networking, peace of mind. After the strength and conditioning, I have a calmness in order to concentrate on my school work, currently attend college. I have had positive attitude, physical, and mental changes occur. I currently train as part of the fight team. As part of the fight team, I have access to many classes. These classes are boxing, kickboxing, MMA, submission wrestling, strength and conditioning, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (GI and No Gi). All the coaches have a passion; their passion drives you to do the best of your ability and beyond. Thank You, Body Architecture MMA :) read more

I love Body Architecture MMA (BAMMA)... My son & I have been taking classes there since it opened back in 2008-2009? My son takes all sorts of classes at BAMMA, including: Strength & conditioning, MMA, & BJJ. My son & I also have been taking private lessons (1 on 1) each week with one of the MMA instructors for the last 2-3 years. The strength & conditioning classes are brutal. Expect a very intense workout which will leave you exhausted. The workouts are unconventional, and frequently involve flipping a huge tire, swinging 3" thick ropes, or throwing a medicine ball, etc... My favorite one is where two people hold a rope about 2 feet off the ground and you have to sprawl, crawl under the rope, get up, jump over the rope and then repeat 10-20 times. That one is a blast!!!! The strength & conditioning classes are usually taught by either Ricky or Lori, and they are both amazing instructors. The MMA classes are taught by some of the nicest & most knowledgeable instructors around. They are very experienced, and they are extremely patient with the students. All of the instructor's have fought numerous times and have been successful in Strikeforce & other venues. The smaller class size (10 - 20) allows for the instructors to work very closely with all of the students. One thing that has not been mentioned in any of the other reviews is that BAMMA is a Cesar Gracie affiliate school. The BJJ instructor (Samir Chantre - Look him up on YouTube) is a black belt under Cesar Gracie, and is considered to be one of the top BJJ competitors in the WORLD. Yes, the WORLD. This guy is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. The owner, Lori, is the most dedicated person that I know when it comes to training, personal fitness, and MMA. She literally spends all of her free time organizing fights for the fighters, setting up fight night mixers for the students, and helping people achieve their fitness goals. Not to mention her amazing kinesio taping ability. I don't know how she does it, but she is able to fix just about any injury with that stuff. It is unbelievable... Also, Lori goes out of her way to help her students & their families with their personal fitness. For example, she has offered to let my son come in early each day for a personal bootcamp to help him lose some weight before he goes back to school. Talk about over the top service... The bottom line is that if you want to learn MMA/BJJ or just get in shape without dealing with meatheads on steroids, then this is definitely the place for you. Attitudes are not tolerated, and everyone who trains here is very nice & helpful. When you partner up with someone in class, you can be assured that they are not out to hurt you like in other facilities where everyone thinks that they are a pro and are out to prove that they are better than you. read more

I've been a member at B.A. for just about two years and I couldn't be happier with the results. The gym has the feeling of a small family, with everyone knowing each other and their background, while at the same time, being very receptive of new members. Lori preaches team and family and everyone is expected to help out around the gym and help each other meet their goals. I'm enrolled in the advanced MMA class, brazilian jiu-jitsu, yoga, and sparring classes. At various times, Lori has asked me to be an assistant for the basic MMA classes and the conditioning classes. Lori and her trainers can push you right to the brink endurance wise, but you always keep coming back to get better and better. In addition to the various classes, Lori will have nutrition seminars, special classes with UFC and Strikeforce fighters, as well as holiday parties for the whole family. Lori is constantly evolving the programs and classes to meet the goals of the members, while staying cutting edge in terms of training. This gym is one of the few places where the sky is limit. If you want to drop some weight and get in better shape, there are plenty of people willing to help you out and tailor a program and diet. If you want to be a professional fighter, the amateur fight team has an amazing record and Lori is well placed in the industry to help you out if you're good enough. read more

Spend a few weeks training with Lori and it will quickly become clear why she has such a loyal following of clients, some spanning the course of decades. Her boot camp sessions blend her unique background into a class that's a little bit MMA, a little bit HIT and a little bit yoga - in short, you'll never get bored with just one style. Her classes are fun, but more importantly, they're safe. Ever mindful of injury-prevention and proper alignment, Lori is quick to offer a modification or suggestion to improve the exercise you're performing (I've actually yet to find an exercise she can't modify from her encyclopedic knowledge of body mechanics). To be clear, there's no doubt she'll make you work - but she'll respect your limitations. I came to Lori for private training while recovering from a recent surgery, and never once felt that my recovery was in jeopardy. Whether privately or in a group, Lori is an excellent trainer. read more

Thank you Lori for the great online classes! I've been working out in person with you for a long time and you are great at making sure that people are working out properly so they don't aggravate old injuries and they are engaging all of the correct muscles. I wasn't sure how that was going to translate to an online workout - But it works! These classes are a real health saver! read more

I've been working with Lori for over two years. I have specialized workout needs due to prior injuries that a trainer at a big named gym isn't equipped to handle. When I come up against a flare up with prior injury mid workout, the majority of the time Lori can instruct me on stretches to do that alleviate the majority of the pain or she'll modify the workout to avoid the trigger, yet still work the muscle group we're focusing on. Since Covid we've been doing remote sessions, and when things get back to normal, I'll likely keep at least one online session a week. My job is very demanding of my time, so carving out the time to go to a gym, workout and return to work is a lot to ask. Now that we're working out online, I can do my workouts at home or even at the office when I go back. I've been really happy with my progress and ability to avoid further injury. And she does floats which I love a really help relax my shoulders after insane work weeks. read more

I've been going to Body Architecture for about 3 years now. Lori helped me get in shape for my wedding and stay in shape! She is an amazing trainer. Lori is very knowledgeable in various types of workouts i.e Yoga, Pilates and high intensity workout! She modified my workout when I was pregnant so I was able to stay active until I was 8 months pregnant. I recommend Body Architecture to anyone looking for a challenge to anyone who needs modified workout. You'll have lots of fun and feel good doing it! read more

Body Architecture with Lori is the most thoughtful well rounded environment for all types at all ranges of fitness, sports and training. In my years training with Lori there have been so many positive life changing moments it's not just a session it's a journey and you will be amazed at how far you never knew you could go. Feel better and be the best version of you. A warm friendly environment awaits with an instructor who genuinely cares. Thank you Lori!!! read more

Love this place!!! I joined about 9 months ago and couldn't be happier. I love the strength and conditioning classes. They push you to push yourself.. without killing yourself (if that makes any sense). They have a great selection of classes to take - bjj, boxing, kickboxing, yoga, mma, strength & conditioning. All of the instructors are helpful and knowledgeable. The people who workout/train here are super nice too. I love Lori, who runs the place. She knows her stuff when it comes to the fitness world. She cares about the gym, the fight team and the students which I think is really cool. If I ever have any questions about anything or help with something she is right there! This is a great place to come to if you want to get in shape or get active. Also, if you are interested in fighting I recommend checking this place out. They have a fight team with some good fighters. Lots of support from everyone at the gym. I am training for a fitness competition that Lori is helping me with. I love that this gym is so much more than your average gym. Body Architecture is a positive place to be and I'm glad to be a part of it!! read more

So great to find a trainer willing to work online! Lori gave me a great session non zoom! Warm up, stretches, strength work and homework. Special attention to my execution and to the session goals. It was such an excellent alternative in these challenging times! Thank you Lori for being such a great trainer, in person and online! read more

I have been a member of this gym for over 3 years. I have done yoga, MMA, strength and conditioning, personal training and many other activities. All these classes and activities have been the best I have ever been a part of. Mainly because of the people teaching the classes and training people. This is a gym you join to have a close and caring relationship with those helping you reach your fitness goals, whatever that may be. Lori, the owner, is amazing! She truly cares about people and will offer as much help and advice as you need to be successful. The atmosphere is one that even a socially shy person like myself feels welcome and appreciated. You will not find a gym like this at any price, anywhere! Period. read more

I look forward to going each and every time! If you have doubts, just give it a try, you will notice the difference when you walk in the door. read more

Strength and Conditioning at Body Architecture has been my spot for a while now - and more recently started attending yoga there, too. How much do I like it here? Enough to write my first-ever, unsolicited review on yelp! I've done crossfit at a few different places in the southbay, and I look at the S&C program at Body Architecture as probably more similar to circuit training than crossfit. The workouts are hard but interesting/fun/satisfying, plus I'm not getting injured like I was in crossfit. I don't know what it was, but it seems like I'd either strain or pull something every few months, most recently I experienced an upper back injury while doing crossfit which took me out of commission for more than 2 months and required physical therapy. I did enjoy the olympic lifting aspect of crossfit - and we don't do that here - but will take being injury-free over olympic lifting any day of the week! Lori (owner and primary S&C trainer) is very knowledgeable in several different methodologies of training and kinetics. The staff and other gym members are also friendly and encouraging. They adapt the workouts here to your needs and limitations. Highly recommended! read more

This is a good place to train. They have a BJJ black belt who teaches has a ton of experience/ knowledge and place is close by to my house. The class I tried went to had about 8 people in it all very nice guys 5 white belts 3 blues. This seems to be a newer gym that has not been around for a long time. Which is OK. I would say the only down fall is there is not a big variety of weight class me being about 140lbs. Everyone in this class was over 180lb at least besides me and the Instructor. Furthermore there is also not a big variety in Belts. From what some of the other instructors were saying it consist of mostly white belts and a hand full of new blues. (Just did belt promotions and is a newer academy) Lastly they only do Gi class one time a day and twice during the work week. Which makes he hard if you have a specific time you can make it. Thanks for having me. I will try and make it back soon. read more

I originally started going to Body Architecture to get into mma and learn how to fight. But since I walked through the doors I have learned how to fight, how to get into shape, and how to take care of my body. Besides mma classes, they also offer strength and conditioning classes as well as yoga classes. The strength and conditioning classes are fantastic as they help you get into shape and push you to your limits without hurting yourself. The yoga classes are great as they help you increase your muscle strength as well as help protect you against further injuries. All the instructors and trainers are great and really help and push you. Going to Body Architecture has also allowed me to run in a few races where we ran as a team. It was one of the funnest things I had ever done as we trained together and pushed each other to the finish. I have been going to Body Architecture for over three years now and I don't know where I would be if I hadn't gone. Everyone is extremely nice and really supportive in whatever goal you have. The toughest thing to do is to walk through the door, but once you do you will never want to leave. read more

I came to this school a few months ago and wanted to try out their BJJ class. (Just moved here from the NY) I told the instructor I have training just a little in the past but nothing significant. (3months training) I will say black belt instructor was very knowledgeable. When it came time to "roll" I felt that every student had it out for me. I told them it was my 1st time in a long time (2years) and I am out of shape. But seem to go in one ear and out another. I am a smaller guy 145lb and started out with a guy who weighted at least 50 plus pounds more than me and was getting smashed (cross faced and neck cranks) was submitted at least 4 times. The next guy was even bigger! (he told me he weighted 210lb+) I told him I was fairly new and out of shape "so let's go slow" but that did not stop him. ( Arm bars, cross faced multiple times and he felt like throwing in a few neck cranks) As soon as class was finished class no one asked me how it was and they assumed I was signing up right immediately and threw in front of me the price sheet. (I didn't sign up) I ended up going home with a messed up jaw and sore neck for the next couple weeks or so. I wish the instructor would teach their students the common courtesy of taking it easy on new students. I DID NOT END UP GOING BACK. IF YOUR A BEGINNER THIS COULD BE YOU. Here is a YOUTUBE vid I found I wished the Staff watched before I came in. I would have 100% signed up if this is how I felt. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnbHLmyUJhg&feature=player_embedded#! read more

I've been taking Strength & Conditioning here for about 3 years and it definitely transformed my body - muscle tone, stamina, all better than ever. Every class is different so you never plateau. I've been a runner for a few years and this class helped my endurance during 10k trail runs where I've noticed a big difference. The teachers include Ricky, Lori, Tom, all different styles and all good workouts. They care about form, and encourage you to push yourself but not to the point of injury which is REALLY important for this type of training! It is family oriented too, with parents and kids taking some of the classes together. I've seen HUGE transformations here, like someone losing over 100 lbs under Lori's training, someone doing a fitness competition, and several doing races like Mud Run and coming in first in their age groups. I would recommend this school for anyone looking to make a change in their fitness level and overall health. read more

I just had a HORRIBLE experience my first time here attempting to take the Strength and Conditioning class. I purchased a promo through Groupon and decided to check this place out. I signed and brought in the liability release that was provided with the class confirmation. Upon arrival the lady with the black hair wanted me to fill out another release. I completed it but did not fill in address info. She gave it back. I told her I didn't want mailings from them. She told me for the amount I paid it's not asking too much and they need my contact info in case of emergency. EXCUSE ME?!! The amount I paid has NOTHING to do with my address. So I entered my CITY info and gave it to her. She gave it back and said it needs to be complete. I told her that if there is an emergency you use my phone number NOT my address. Then she said "well you don't have to take the class'. I said "you're right" and left. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Business must be really good if they can afford to talk to potential new members like that. read more

I started going to Body Architecture MMA in October of 2011 as a newcomer to San Jose I wanted to find a new fitness "home-base". I could tell right away this was not like any other gym I've been a member of. Being a woman and new to the world of Mixed Martial Arts, I wasn't sure that a MMA studio was for me. However, after speaking with Lori and reevaluating my fitness goals, I decided to give it a try. Everyone at BAMMA seems to go out of their way to make you feel welcome and encourages you to push yourself to meet your fitness goals, whatever they are. I enjoy running and have done several marathons and was looking for a more balanced fitness routine. I've taken the Strength and Conditioning and Yoga classes, I have seen some of the other classes offered and am hoping to branch out into new territory in the near future. While every Strength and Conditioning class pushes me to my limit, I keep coming back for more knowing that each week I am closer to my goals. I am hopeful this is the last gym I'll ever have to join, I feel I am capable of reaching any fitness goal I set for myself as long as I have BAMMA's fitness instructors/trainers to guide me. Whether you are a seriously competetive athlete, or just looking for a friendly, family-oriented, supportive, fulfilling, limitless fitness facility, then this is definitely the place for you! Oh yeah, and I'm happy to say since joining BAMMA, I've learned a lot about MMA and am proud to NOW be a fan! :) read more
