The yoga and tai chi classes at the center have given me exactly what I was looking for. A practice that was simple and effective. The Korean form emphasizes discrete movements and postures rather than the many movements that have to be strung together in the Chinese forms. I love the Chinese forms ,don't get me wrong. But the practice as taught in Body and Brain is easier and I think more powerful and very very effective movements, creating a free and empowered state of mind. read more

Loooooooooooove it!!!! The instructors take time to give you information about your body in totality. I knew that your body can heal itself, and they reminded me that I am in control of it all. The instructors take the time to show you proper body mechanics so that you are engaging your mind and your body. This is more than just a work out it is holistic therapy, duh hence the name. I left feeling complete. There are late night classes which is great for the working stiff such as myself. And they are patient with newcomers such as myself hee hee hee. Teatime after yoga is also a plus. Breathing is so essential. And the philosophy, I learned your belly is your second brain & that it can be stronger than your first brain. I joined this studio over a year ago. I had siged up for a 2 year special price, not only did I sign up so did my mother and my son, all with excitement, the first few classes were great and we felt wonderful, however.... here came the push $$$$$$$$$$$ every time we turned around master would pull us aside compliment us on how well we were doing and ask for more money to help us better, we already had spent over $3000.00 between all of us and were starting to feel bullied everything we had just worked tensed back up and all of us just quit, with no refund, I had gone in to see what could be done instead of getting any kind of help I was told I needed to come to private classes for the money owed.....hell no I was done I lost sleep had anxiety issues and was so mad I was taken by this company.... Don't do it unless you have the money to throw away !!!!! In reading the replies from the Body and Brain representative you can tell that they think they are always right and we who didn't write a rave reviews are idiots for not being brainwashed by this company. read more

Oh how I hope that the power of Yelp will help even one person not join the cult of Dahn Yoga. I began with a free aura reading at the local health fair and a pass for a free one-on-one energy session with the yoga master. She admittedly was able to gauge my physical and mental shortcomings, including insomnia. I slept very well that evening, even though I had just forked over nearly $3000 for a year of unlimited yoga (including a few other extras.) So, now the yoga... I had done a decent amount of traditional yoga over the years and was looking forward to the stretch, the calm, the centering. If this is what you are looking for also, I assure you this is NOT it. But I thought I'd give it a go. There were lots of jumping and tapping and vocal bits. It wasn't yoga per se, but I felt like it was sort of "energy work" and I was more relaxed, less anxious, and sleeping better. Weird things: there was a "cleansing exercise" that was the class cleaning the floor with hand towels. Uhm. I'm paying to clean their floors. Also, at the end of every class, you have to talk about how the jumping and chanting and hitting yourself is helping you. It's very AA-like. Then their was the tea. While tasty, I wonder what the hell was in it that made me so stupid and trusting. Note: don't drink the Kool-Aid (and I mean in THAT way). The money/cult part. So during the private session at the very beginning, I was highly pressured into signing up for the year package even though I couldn't afford it. This included purchasing the uniform. Folks that just bought a monthly pass and no uniform were treated as outsiders. So this is supposedly "all you need" to "change your life" and "show that you care about your health". Then after about two-three months I was invited to go to small-group VIP trainings and then invited to the almighty weekend retreat in Sedona to learn to be a teacher. At the same time being lured into more private one-hour sessions that were $300 each. (The training in Sedona I believe was nearly $20,000). They manipulate you into thinking you don't care about yourself or your health to get your money. It's the hardest sell I've ever seen. In conclusion, it's a damn shame that the instructors are overworked (work 70-80 hours and only paid for 40) and that the number one goal is ONLY MONEY. The practice itself is weird but semi-effective in many ways. Before you join, please google all of the information about them you can. Also look into the Moonie cult - very similar. I managed to get out only a few thousand dollars in and my sanity intact. read more

It is hard to write an honest review for this place without being too harsh... I think that the place had really good intentions and for some people it might be a perfect fit. But for me...not so much. I have taken yoga classes at a lot of different places and they are pretty similar but with varying degrees of difficulty etc. The class I took here was completely different. I barely broke a sweat because we spent so much time doing some silly and pointless exercises like slapping ourselves all over. Seriously. I think that opposed to a fitness and body focus this might some kind of spiritual place. We spent well over 30 minutes in the dark on our backs just meditating on the instructors whimsy. The kicker was at the end when we did "cleaning mediation" which basically was us cleaning the floors with hand towels. Yeah I am not making this up. read more

There are lots of yoga options in Albuquerque, I recommend you find another studio. Master Hong-ik says it is about health, healing, spiritual awareness and peace but I found it to be about money. She uses very HIGH PRESSURE sales techniques to get you to sign up for very expensive workshops and memberships, and once you do, she is unrelenting in trying to get you to sign up for more. What this studio offers isn't worth the price charged and stress of the constant financial pressure to do more. Move on. read more

Body and Brain is definitely different from your standard yoga class. Even though I don't sweat through these classes, they've brought a more energized peaceful feeling, rather than feeling like a floppy piece of spaghetti after class. It places more emphasis on focusing on the chi/qi energy moving through your body and in your core to build immunity, increase flexibility, spritual awareness, and general well being. I recommend getting the consultation assessment intro thing. It helped me understand the exercises on a deeper level. The staff is very attentive and you can tell that they live and breathe this practice and the Tao philosophy. They really care about bringing health to everyone. I've only been coming a couple months, and I've already dropped my cholesterol by 30 points, my thyroid condition has improved, and I no longer get migraines. I'm impressed. read more

I have attended classes at this studio for several years now and I really enjoy it. Every class has stretching, meditation and breathing exercises. They focus on energy. It's become my "go-to" method for getting out of my head. I find the instructors are very knowledgeable. When I first came to the yoga studio I was having symptoms of perimenopause. I had anxiety, depression, mood swings, and hypoglycemia. These symptoms would appear for two weeks out of every month. It felt like an imbalance of the hormones or something. After doing this type of practice for 6 months the symptoms went away. Everything balanced out. Now I know that this was not just a hormone imbalance but an energy imbalance. This yoga helps you balance out your emotions as well as your body. It has been very good for me. I don't think there is anything like it anywhere. I love doing this yoga and it helps me be happier and more peaceful. After class I feel relaxed but energized. I really like this type of Yoga. It is very refreshing to the body as well as the mind. I find the exercises challenging but doable. The focus of each class brings my mind and body together in a way that I have rarely experienced in other exercise classes or gym workouts. I could not be happier over my discovery of Dahn Yoga in Albuquerque. I joined over 3 years ago because my job induced anxiety and stress was out of control. This form of yoga was everything I had hoped for and then some. I was not new to yoga as had been involved in another form, one emphasizing postures, earlier in my life. However in Dahn Yoga, the energy I feel from its unique forms of exercise seems to have impacted every area of my body, even my brain. I've lost nearly 30 pounds, blood pressure is under control, and somehow I am no longer diagnosed with osteopenia. The latter revealed through bone density tests at 5 year intervals. In 2012 that diagnosis was gone. My stress is well managed and my anxiety evaporated. I feel numerous positive changes, and friends and family see it. For me it's been life changing and seemingly has turned back the clock on my health age. It doesn't get any better than that. Hey, how great is that name change...from Dahn Yoga to "Body & Brain Yoga!" After reading my old review, clearly it was all about my body changes and psyche changes. It's so good to see this business now name it's purpose. As an update, I continue to attend this training, and can't imagine ever stopping. This place is amazing. I loved doing Indian-style yoga while I was finishing my dissertation (it probably saved my shoulders from permanent computer-hunching damage), but I had never experienced Korean yoga until I found this place. It's more energy-oriented: all of the stretches are designed to open up acupuncture meridians, and it combines stretching with meditation exercises for maximum effect.
