Please, can I give six stars? Last week an elderly friend of mine was in a terrible muddle. The high temperatures a few days earlier had finally convinced him he needed some air conditioning for himself and his caregiver. A handyman/general contractor had given him an estimate to put in a mini-split AC and was eager to get started. At the same time, there was a half-completed upgrade of wiring and panel waiting for PG&E to do some work. This was by another firm that had installed a new water heater last December. Listening to all this, I was very worried that my friend would sign a low-ball contract, only to discover he was unhappy with the one-room mini-split solution, or that he needed to pay more for additional electrical work, and/or that the addition of AC to the existing system would overload his fuse box. John spent solid hour kindly untangling my friend's needs, explaining what different solutions might be (whole house, 1/2/3-zone mini-split, etc.), and helping us understand how to go forward. (Confusing the issue was the fact that the water heater company is actually a major air-conditioning installer, unbeknownst to me or my friend, so poor John was also trying to figure out why they weren't sorting this out.) It was such a blessing to talk with someone focused on my friend's situation and problem -- and not just trying to sell services or products. He earned his consultation fee and some very good karma. read more

They came out looked at our HVAC unit knew exactly what to do, they had to order parts but in a week just like new we could not be happier. Like to thank John and the Bodnar company. Great Job guys. read more

Earnest, honest, conscientious care from a husband and wife team who care about getting it right. Invaluable guidance, clearly and calmly presented without hyperbole. I recommend Bodnar HVAC every chance I get. read more

John diagnosed the problem quickly, had the replacement parts in his truck and completed the repair quickly.

100% recommend this company. My heater wasn't working properly. I had a company come out for a free estimate and they said I needed a new one and not to use the heater. Bodnar came out and fixed it for a very reasonable price. The technician was on time, efficient, And very nice. There was a slight issue and I had to have him come back, but I just called the company and he returned immediately and fixed the small issue. But way better than having to buy a brand new heater. My parents have been a longtime customer of Bodnar and now I understand why!! read more

Unfortunately, Bodnar called me just one hour before they were scheduled to come to my home and without prior warning cancelled our appointment. I had waited 5 days for this appointment, and it was disappointing to get that phone call. I've decided to use someone else. They were at least polite on the phone while they were quitting at the last minute, so I did not give them only one star (I rated them 2 star). It is unfortunate that I did not get to experience their service first hand. read more

i have used them for years. good, honest local business. they don't handle all brands so check in advance. if they handle your unit they will give you an expert assessment and maintenance experience. read more

I was very happy with John Bodnar and his family owned company. He diagnosed the problem with my AC unit and replaced the faulty part. My AC was up and running quickly and I was very grateful. I knew what the call out fee was going to be up front, so the cost was not a surprise. John was very pleasant and friendly, and I would for sure call him again. For those who complain about the cost of the parts, mark up is part of running a business. It's the convenience of not having to go get it yourself, plus the expertise gained to diagnose a problem comes from years of experience and running a business. read more

John is a passionate practitioner of his craft and was a fresh of breath air to interact with. He is a straight shooter, super smart, a d really cares about doing the right thing. I really appreciated his professionalism and willingness to be helpful and kind. read more

Thanks John for the quick assessment of our Rheem central heating system. You stated not much to check or service as our heating system is fine after quick looks and open conversation. Trust Bodnar and support our local businesses. Much appreciate the transparancy and professionalism. read more

John was such a pleasure work with - he will be the only hvac person I ever call! My furnace stopped working and he came out the same day to check it out. It turned out to be a somewhat unusual problem - the circuit board had an issue and had to be replaced. Despite it being an unusual problem, John had one in his truck and replaced it. The whole thing took under an hour of labor, which made the cost very reasonable. I watched him work and debug the problem - I was super impressed with his speed and knowledge. You can't go wrong with John - highly recommend! read more

John Bodnar has taken care of my heating and air conditioning units for several years. He has a solid work ethic, is dependable and thorough, and I have total confidence in his service. The office communications are excellent as well, and they've been kind and flexible when I've had to reschedule. Thankfully, they are highly conscious of safety protocols for COVID, so you can feel comfortable having John in your home. I highly recommend his services. read more

Could not have had a better experience with John. From the get go he was responsive on the phone and communicative by email. First I asked him to check our existing hvac setup as my previous hvac contractor retired. John was super honest and told me nothing was needed but did offer some recommendations for improvement. After that I asked to alter our hvac and add a duct to our garage. I was concerned about the exact design and how it would fit in the attic as I use it for storage, but we were able to work out everything by phone and photos. On the day of the job, the crew was extremely courteous, prompt and CLEAN. Highly recommend Bodnar! read more

I would have rated Bodnar higher but the technician left my furnace off after the first visit, charged me full price for a second trip to turn it on -- and then the company upped the price for that first visit claiming I was first sent an incorrect [lower] invoice. Raised the price after sending an invoice! Not right. Take care! read more

John was terrific. He was on time, solved the problem quickly, and taught us a few things that will help us down the road. Top notch customer service made this a great experience. read more

Our HVAC issue was complicated. We tried for months to get the company that put the system in....to come and fix it. After several months and mounting frustration, I called Bodnar. From the moment I spoke with the office, i was so pleased and impressed with their friendliness, professionalism and speed. This is what a family business feels like....and why I look for smaller businesses. John is the original HVAC "whisperer." He quickly found the issues and fixed them. As he was doing his diligent review of the entire system, he found a significant issue. A very serious one. Very. They are the only company I will call in future and have my strongest recommendation. read more

We called John to come out and inspect/service our HVAC system on our new house. Since we didn't put in the system we wanted to make sure it was up to snuff. John took great care to check everything out and gave helpful tips for future maintenance for both the furnaces and AC units. He was honest with his assessment and the fact that these high efficiency systems really don't need much if installed properly. John is knowledgeable and communicative. Don't hesitate to call him for help. read more

We called John Bodnar after the furnace he had installed in our home more than a decade ago began to function intermittently and then barely at all. As fate would have it, this occurred on the coldest night in the year to date. He quickly observed a rattle in the furnace mechanism. He disassembled the furnace and then reassembled it. In the process, a heating pipe fell apart in his hands. He discovered a hive of dead bees inside the pipe, preventing its normal function. He cleared the pipe of the debris and reassembled it. He then climbed onto the roof to make sure that no further damage had been done. He explained that the collection of dead insects had been caused by inactivity of the furnace over time. Throughout this time, he showed his experience and expertise in this complex repair. We are very pleased by how quickly he identified the problem and the exceptional skill he showed in solving it, leaving us with a fully functioning furnace. read more

Definitely 5+ stars. From John Bodnar's initial walkthrough to inspection day, John, Kevin and Ted are exactly the quality installers you hope for when shopping for HVAC. Professional, on time, thorough, neat and within budget, we're very happy with the two systems Bodnar installed. And Heather in the office made scheduling and billing very easy... excellent customer service. Their prices are competitive but not inexpensive. They don't cut corners and take pride in their work. A pleasure to work with. read more

Couldn't be more impressed with Bodnar Heating & Air. We had a nightmare of an install with another company. So we called out Bodnar for a second opinion. The company is super informed and knowledgeable about HVAC. Every question was answered professionally with a high degree of expertise. As a person who knows nothing about AC installation a huge factor is trusting the installer. I would highly recommend this company to anyone that appreciates integrity, hard work and peace of mind that you are working with a reputable company. read more

Couldn't be happier than I am with Bodnar Heating & AC. I recently mostly-installed a ductless mini-split system that I ordered online. I say "mostly" because like most homeowners, I don't keep around a tank of nitrogen nor a vacuum pump that I can use to pressure test the piping and to suction all of the air out of the system before releasing the refrigerant charge into the lines. For this, I needed an honest and reliable air conditioning contractor. Most of the names I got from the company that sold me the system didn't even call me back. They were either too busy, too disinterested in this type of work, or just too rude. I got referred to Bodnar by a neighbor and got a quick call back, a quote of $140/hr with a guess that it would take 2.5-3 hours to complete (since I'd already done nearly all of the work), and a time scheduled within the next week. The day of our appointment came, and John was unfortunately detained because of a problem at a previous client he was visiting just to give an estimate: on his way out, he discovered a gas leak and wasn't comfortable just leaving that client with a gas leak. I think that's a really reasonable justification for running late, as justifications go, and I understand that sometimes sh*t happens with schedules. The important thing is that John called me immediately to let me know what was going on, and kept in touch as he had updates on his ETA. Communication is key, and he did a fine job of it. Once John was here, it was in fact just about 3 hours to complete the job; he wanted to redo a couple fittings because they were a flared a little off-center. As someone who likes to see things done the right way, I completely appreciate that. There was also a minor modification needed to a cover on the outdoor unit of the system in order to run the control wires the right way. I found his demeanor friendly and that he was easy to work with. He sent us an invoice with no surprises on it whatsoever-- just a labor charge for three hours of work and the cost of the nitrogen for the pressure test. Now we have a nice temperature-controlled master bedroom, thanks to Bodnar putting the finishing touches on our installation rather than turning up his nose at the work like everybody else. Ductless mini-splits are really fantastic, incredibly efficient, and not all that hard to install if you're handy. And when you get to the end and need the final checks and startup, you should certainly consider Bodnar to help you finish! read more

My air conditioner failed in the heat wave. Another company told me I needed a new compressor - $2000 or they could install a new system - $6500. I decided to get a second opinion. Bodner came out and quickly discovered that the problem was a chewed wire - wretched rats! The problem was quickly repaired and the air conditioner works great. Mr. Bodner was very knowledgeable and explained everything. I would highly recommend them. read more

Cannot recommend John Bodnar. He responded to a service call for an inoperable attic furnace (faulty gas valve). He looked at the furnace & access and refused to do the job citing limited access, despite saying that he had the part. He left us with no heat. I am a 6 foot, 81 yrs old. Frustrated I bought the part on Amazon and installed it in about 30 minutes- not a problem with access. We expected more from John Bodnar HVAC. Find someone else for your repairs. read more

I have to tell you all how impressed I am with Bodnar Heating and Air Conditioning. Specifically, John Bodnar. Out of 30 businesses that I called on a Friday (that was technically a holiday-July 3rd) about my A/C being out on the eve of a hot, long weekend, John was one of three that actually called me back. Even businesses that called themselves "24 hour-emergency services" would not call me back. John was so professional and came exactly when he said he would. He knew exactly what to look for when I told him the circumstances of our A/C going out. I am just so impressed with his diagnosis and expertise. I highly recommend Bodnar and they will certainly have all of my HVAC business in the future. read more

Highly recommend Bodnar Heating. John came to our house at the end of his work day to check out our nonfunctioning furnace. Another company, The Furnace Company, had looked at the furnace earlier in the day and told us we needed a new furnace. Within a few minutes John found a loose wire. He tightened the connection and our furnace started up. He also told us his price to replace the furnace with the same model the other company proposed was half their bid. From now on, we will use Bodnar Heating. read more

John is an HVAC artist! He really knows his stuff and is focused on providing cost-effective great service that solves the actual problem. He takes the time to explain the options, the costs and the difficulty of effecting a range of solutions. It was just what we needed because most of our HVAC equipment was still in good serviceable condition and only some parts were faulty. He helped us figure out exactly what was going on and to assess alternative solutions. We would have spent a lot more replacing everything but John went way out of his way to help us source the right solution at the best price. He's reliable, reasonably priced and extremely diligent about the work. He's what you need. Highest marks! read more

I have this experience with Mr Bodnar, after I called for service my heater. When he came he strongly recommended change whole unit. I refused and just ask for change thermostat what make unit work. Then he installed thermostat. I ever ask for estimate for new units, he will stop later. After 2 weeks I recieve bill for $ 260,00 . $140 for 1 hour labor and $120 for thermostat. This thermostat on web cost $38, and 6 of them cost $ 136,00. I send them copie of both , pic thermostat installed and price of him. I got call from office lady/his wife, I should next time buy my own part. Yes I will, I don't need pay 3 time more for your thermostat , and I will not contact this company for any work. Please be aware from they practices! read more

A family run business that has been around for several generations. I contacted John Bodnar to evaluate my heater, an original unit for my house in the Williows areas of Menlo Park. John was knowledgable, and honest enough to inform me that the unit did not require any service, and he didn't even charge me for the visit. Would definitely consult Bodnar again! read more

Our home just wasn't heating up the way it should be. The furnace is only a couple of years old so we knew it shouldn't have gone out yet. John came out and checked the ducts and did an through inspection of the system. He mentioned that it was highly unlikely, but perhaps a bird had flown in the tiny vent pipe on the side of the house and that could be what was causing the problem. He went outside to check and that is exactly what had happened. We now have full heat again in the house! John was honest and his rates are good. We'll definitely call him next time we need service! read more

Every Summer, my air conditioner needs a service. I've had multiple circuit boards replaced. The unit repeatedly freezes then the melting condensation would reek havoc with the machinery. Its always a hassle. This year, I called John Bodnar. He made a few visits. Although he was able to get the unit to work right away, he was sure that some problem was still lurking. I told him I wanted a new unit since I was tired of the yearly ritual. He insisted the unit was solid. That's pretty darned honest! He discovered that the unit was not draining properly. He was able to fix it for good for a low cost that surprised me. The total bill he charged me was less than I had paid in previous years. A not-so-handy handyman screwed up my AC trying to change the air filter. Then he couldn't figure out how to fix it. John Bodnar spent a lot of time with me on the phone last evening to diagnose the problem and figure out a temporary fix. I would bring him back here in a heartbeat if I needed anything else. read more

I had John come out to verify an inspection that another company had given me. John took apart a portion of my furnace to show me that I DID NOT have a cracked heat exchanger, hence no carbon monoxide was coming into the house as the other guy had claimed. My furnace wasn't working so I called John after calling a large company who said we can see you in two weeks. I am pretty handy so I tried everything I know first. Our furnace failed two days ago and we have spent the past two days calling many different repair companies to see if someone could come fix it. None of them said they could get to us before the end of the week. With temperatures in the 30s, we definitely wanted to get it fixed as soon as possible. We finally got a recommendation to give John Bodnar a call and could not be happier. Despite his busy schedule, he agreed to come by our house the same evening and showed up exactly when he said he would. He quickly identified the source of the problem (a failed capacitor) and had it fixed and tested in less than 30 minutes. John was honest, friendly, polite and extremely knowledgeable. When my daughter asked why he was working so late, he said it was because he knew we were cold and wanted to help. I will definitely give John a call in the future whenever we need help. read more
