I've never practiced yoga before but my daughters and I have been very happy with the experience so far. Phoenix is very sensitive to physical, and intellectual difficulties and adapts the class to our needs, breaking down the instructions so we can keep up and get the most out of our time with her. Our last session was a restorative practice which left us all feeling relaxed and de-stressed. It's a great, healthy way to spend time with my girls and we're so glad we found this studio! The atmosphere is calming and peaceful and fees very reasonable. As I said I'm no expert but I would definitely recommend Phoenix!

It really is special.  I would consider myself somewhat of a "yogi nomad" never really finding that studio that resonated with me...however I've found my home. Seymour & the Valley is blessed to have this offering to it's community. The teachers are loving, personable, knowledgeable,and compassionate. They provide caring instructions accompanied by healing words to guide you through your practice, meditation, self awareness, and spiritual journey. I've taken classes with Phoenix, Charles & Rebecca and each has uniquely elevated my practice. The studio is warm and very inviting with a max capacity of roughly 12 in studio 1 . I felt very comfortable the moment I walked in the door. (Btw please remove your shoes when you walk in.) I very much enjoyed the creativity and personal touch each teacher brings to the mat and appreciate the fine balance of personal attention the teachers offer up. The decor is very simplistic and the bay windows shine in just enough to cover the floor in natural light. The pricing is more than reasonable compared to other studios in Fairfield County and the caliber of teachers far surpass any instructor I've experienced at the Edge, LA Fitness or Planet Fitness. Additionally, I wanted to mention the music. Two thumbs way up on the music selections the teachers are bringing into the classes....eclectic, soothing and up lifting. If your a guy who has been considering yoga to improve your flexibility, mental health or physical strength and is apprehensive to step into a studio for whatever reason....this is the spot for you. Admittedly I am always nervous when going to New Haven because I never know where to park, which door to go in, which floor to go to, etc. However, the Breathing Room website is EXTREMELY helpful and lists all of the parking options and fees (including the lot right next to the building for only $3). I was there for a 3 day workshop and I had a great time. We were in the aerial studio (although the hammocks were hung up and out of the way) and it was really clean, there were tons of props and the windows and brick were so lovely. There are also plenty of bathrooms, changing areas, a couple of large sitting areas, tons of tasteful retail (shirts, yoga pants, jewelry, essential oils, mala beads, etc), a water bottle filling fountain, and hot tea in little cups is always available. There are 3 yoga rooms, all with their own personalities and lots of cubbies for storing things while you're taking classes. Although I didn't get a chance to visit this time around, there's also a float center that I've heard great things about. I haven't taken classes yet with any of the BR instructors, but I have heard only positive things from the students who have that I'm dying to come back to try some of them! The people who work at the reception desk are all very friendly and helpful and the owner Margot is very welcoming and has created an amazing space with great energy. This place is a true gem!

I was a little intimidated at first, but all of the people there have such varied experience - from beginner to advanced. The classes are non-judgmental and the teachers encourage you to do what's comfortable. They have "consent chips" that you can flip over if you're not comfortable with the teacher adjusting your posture. I do think the class descriptions might be a little misleading. Form and Flow was my first class ever and I could hardly keep up. The classes that are for "all experience levels" sometimes require at least a little bit of knowledge of the poses in order to do what you're supposed to do. Other than that, I think it's safe to say that I'm obsessed.

About 15 months ago, I visited the Active Fitness studio to talk to Christina & Drew and share my…read morehopes for our time training together. At the time, I had goal tunnel vision. The sole thing I cared about was rebuilding my atrophied leg, a symptom of extensive knee construction that had turned my quad, hamstring and calve into shadows of their original selves. I couldn't kneel, squat, lunge or even sit for prolonged periods of time without pain. Christina and Drew were thoughtful in their approach (which I now know is just how they operate). I think that they knew my goals would blossom as I felt more control over my knee recovery, and that's exactly what happened. Every week, we saw little gains and I found myself asking bigger questions, not just about my knee but about diet, mental health, routine, self-image, and mindfulness. Now, 15 months later, I feel physically strong. I feel disciplined and capable. I feel like I can trust myself to take good care of my body and brain. And most of all, I feel healthy even though 2020 has been an objectively difficult year for our world. In March, we shifted to Zoom because of coronavirus - I'm so grateful that I had their support during a time when mental and physical health was so important. They helped me transition to quarantine, work from home, home workouts, and a lot more cooking than I've ever done.
