Great aquarium store! Staff are knowledgeable and helpful, store has everything you need for setting up and/or maintaining a tank, and selection of fish and plants is plentiful and changes regularly. If there is something you want, they can order it for you: I wanted an albino bristlenose plecostomus, and they ordered it special and is arrived within a couple of weeks. Fish are slightly more expensive than the big-box stores, but of much better quality and in much better health. I've been coming here for about 3 years and am a completely satisfied customer. I recommend this store in the highest possible terms for anyone who owns or is interested in owning an aquarium! read more

What started out as a great experience ended with me leaving with my feelings hurt. The young man who helped me was very helpful and knowledgeable, and I appreciated his assistance while I was asking questions. However, after I had paid (not a big sale since I was on my lunch break) and on my way out, I stopped to look at the betta fish at the entrance because I was excited about my new fish. I overheard him making fun of me because of how excited I was. I don't think anyone should be made to feel foolish for being excited about their new pet. What he may have thought was funny was actually hurtful, I thought I'd received great customer service. He doesn't have to worry about my excitement because I will not be returning. read more

This is a review for the store owner's way of conducting business, nothing to do with the very nice helpful workers/teenagers. They were great and very patient as I walked around the store asking questions. 2 stars instead of 1 because at least after 30 days the fish are still alive, were not sick, etc. NEW FISH OWNERS BEWARE: Do NOT go here if you want any type of advice at all regarding fish. I came in for a single male betta, some aquatic plants, seachem stability and micropellets, and media / filter to get a 5G tank cycling started before actually buying the betta. He instead sold us 3 betta females encouraging us to start a sorority tank inside a 5G, that it didn't need cycling, and that I was going a bit far to buy so many things for "just one fish." Listen, I get you have to upsell and it was easy to tell I was new to the hobby. But I take things seriously, and once I got home and looked everything up -- I discovered the horrendous reality that the 3 female bettas were most likely going to attack each other and die within 7-10 days. Within 24 hours I had to separate them into tiny glass vases because they started chasing each-other relentlessly, bullying the smallest one, and it was extremely stressful. Maybe it's my fault for being talked into it because I had only done research regarding a single betta. This guy pretty much set me up for failure from the get go. Fast forward one month, I now have a 20G tank (recommended 5G per a single fish), it finally finished its FIRST full ammonia/nitrite/nitrate cycle, and I have a community tank of 8 harlequin rasboras, the 3 female bettas that I still have to monitor, a nitrite snail, and plenty of plants. Funny how if he really did give good advice, I would've come back tenfold for the good price and general cleanliness. But nope! I'm new to the hobby but have already experienced at least three stores other than Bob's that treated me better, had a better understanding of guidance about fish, etc. Extremely appalled by the type of guidance I got here. All about money this guy. read more

Hands down Bob's is the best tropical fish store I've been to. Found Bob's on Yelp and Instagram. Drove 35 minutes from Chino to get there. Came in for a betta. They have a ton of betta's. Several different types and colors to choose from. They get their betta's directly from Thailand and Indonesia. Quality Betta's. Not quantity cheap Betta's. I paid $35 for a male Nemo. The employee who helped me was great. Very knowledgeable. I learned a lot. Learned about the different types of Betta's. Learned about water care and feeding. Chatted with him for awhile. He was really helpful. Thank you! I ended up purchasing a Betta, reverse osmosis water, Betta food, and water treatment. Hopefully this lil guy will last 3-5 years. I'll definitely be back to purchase fish or supplies in the future. It's worth the drive. Great shop! read more

Pros: great clean fish store with variety of salt and freshwater products. Super knowledgeable staff. Cons: LFS(local fish store) never as big as I want them to be. Came on several occasions especially when I was starting out the hobby. Each time I'd come with questions and pick up a few things. Jackson helped me understand how important it is to routinely change your water. How it affects the water chemistry, fish stress, and plant growth. Recently I was inspired by Jackson's Instagram post about his baby dwarf carpet. This time I was helped by another gentleman. He was friendly/approachable and gave me a ton of recommendations. I bought a few tissue plants and planted them. Excited to see them grow. If you've never been. It's worth checking out. read more

This isn't your typical fish store. I know a few comments mention over priced fish and think that the fish isn't anything special. Well, let me give you another perspective. Jasmine, Jackson and I think Juan? Are the main fish enthusiasts at this store. Jasmine is the betta queen. She imports them from Thailand and can be seen constantly caring and changing their water. She also stocks the store with important supplies for bettas care that we do not typically have in the US. If you need help with betta care, talk to her. She gets so excited when talking about fish in general and set up the betta sorority show tank. Although their bettas look like typical pet store bettas, look a bit closer. They are much healthier and have longer fanned fins or better colors. She gets giant bettas which are harder to find. Jackson and Juan have a genuine love for fish and could talk to you for hours about each fish. They source their fish locally and ensure that they stock well cared for fish. Their corydoras and other fish are much bigger than other stores and do not have shipping stress. This store is also one of the few fish stores that carries the ADA brand items from tissue cultured aquatic plants to tanks and stands. Most stores carry UNS, but it's difficult to find stores that carry ADA. Lastly, this fish store is well kept and clean. Most fish stores you will see lots of dead fish, has a fishy odor or tanks that are dirty. This store on the outside looks like a hole in the wall, but when you walk in, it is spacious and clean. read more

I came here to look for some algae eaters for my tank. They have a great assortment of fish in stock and all tanks were clean and many healthy fish. That's a plus for a pet shop. I however ended up going to another fish shop because both workers didn't even ask me if I needed help and many of the fish were babies and would probably not survive in my tank. The unique fresh water fish were the bettas and koi guppies. read more

Great local fish store! Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. They have everything from shrimp to plants and honestly a very unique selection of freshwater fish that you do not see everywhere. They are located on a busy street without street parking. We couldn't find any specific parking lot or garage. There's a plaza next to it, but spots were labeled for specific businesses. We ended up parking pretty far and walking over. We came here for the ADA fishtanks. They didn't have the exact one we wanted. The guy (wish I caught his name), helped us order it, along with all the supplies we needed for it. The guy gave us so many tips and advice for aquascaping. Prices were great, and we can't wait to pick up our tank in a week! read more

Bob's Tropical Fish has a wonderful selection of beautiful fish and supplies. My boyfriend and I went there this past weekend to gather supplies and coral for his new saltwater tank. They had everything he needed and then some. All of the employees went above and beyond with friendly and attentive service. Though we went to Bob's with the purpose of focusing on the saltwater tank, I ended up leaving with a Betta fish of my own. Never have I ever seen the collection of beautiful Betta's that Bob's has. They had the most beautiful blue, gold, white and red variations. Along with the fish, they have beautiful clear glass tanks for your new friend. Bob'e has fair pricing and will go above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need for your fish. read more

Extremely high prices on small tropical fishes that I can buy for half the price & I will not go there again

Parking was a pain in the butt, however, I really enjoyed visiting this store. The owner was informative and helpful. I thought prices were kinda high for a female betta, but they were bigger and prettier than the females available at your local big box stores. I really enjoyed looking at all the tanks with freshwater fish, especially the female betta sorority. I like that the fish tanks are clean and the store employees are knowledgeable and eager to help. My big pet peeve at other LFS is that there are no updated prices. That is not a problem here. The ember tetras looked really red and bright. They even have tissue cultures if you wanna go that route for aquatic plants. read more

Knowledgeable and Trustworthy. My father and I started an 100g planted aquarium setup and had little knowledge going in. From the start, Jackson and Jason were friendly, knowledgeable, and most importantly, trustworthy. Any questions we have regarding, fish, plants, lighting, CO2 or anything else, they give us honest answers that would suit well for what we envision our tank to be. Good selection of fish, plants, and tissue culture plants. Highly recommend! read more

Hands down, my favorite fish store to visit! This place might be small, but their selection of fish and plants are always changing. That's why I love visiting this place. You never know what you'll find on your next visit. Very nice selection of fresh and salt water fish. More into invertebrates? They got those too! They have a nice selection of caridina and neocaridina shrimp as well! Snails more your thing? I've seen them carry some really awesomely colored mystery snails recently, too! They even have a betta sorority on display! I thought this was very impressive. Good selection of tank substrates and maintenance supplies. They even have a small room with all of their fish tanks for sale. Beautiful rimless tanks everywhere. Besides that, the owners are very knowledgeable about the hobby and are always willing to answer any questions you might have. Go check this store out! read more

One of THE BEST LFS in Los Angeles! This store is very clean, organized, and easy to shop. The tanks and the fish are clean and immaculate. Nice small fish store they say parking is in the back near the Chevron station, yeah well no spaces were marked you can park in the wrong spot and get yout car towed away. I parked on the street before the Chevron station and walked around the corner. Tiny aisles clean tanks they have both fresh water and salt water fishes. 03/08/2018 I came in last night right after getting off from work heard it was going to rain on Sunday. Picked up a beautiful Gold Nugget Pleco. This will be my go to LFS for Plecos. 03/24/18 Dropped by just now picked up a small Butterfly Pleco for my tank mates. 03/31/18 This is starting to be a weekly habit. Just went to Bob's Tropical Fish just now picked up a really nice Snowball Pleco. They post their new arrivals on Facebook and Instagram so customers will know what new fishes are in stock.
