I have had multiple experiences with both Guidon and Chris, and both of them have been very professional and helpful.
I first visited their store to purchase the old-fashioned scalloped roller shades that are so popular in historic homes like ours. (1923) Chris spent a lot of time with me, choosing fabric, fringe, etc. I'm in the home improvement business myself, so I felt confident measuring for the blinds, but Chris said "let us come and measure; there's no charge, and if the blinds are wrong and we've measured them, we will replace them. If YOU measure incorrectly, we can't replace them." I took him up on it. He did a good job because the blinds were PERFECT. He also made some suggestions that I didn't think of, like the blinds for the very large front windows should be on a roller chain pull instead of a spring loaded blind. Chris came out and installed the shades himself, and was very careful with our sensitive old house.
Some months later, I decided to add more shades in other rooms. Same process with Chris measuring; they were very busy so he hired a subcontractor to hang the shades. This guy did a great job too.
Finally, I decided it was time to add some flooring in our vintage kitchen - I wanted it to be period-correct and had a color scheme in my head based on old 1920s linoleum ads. I went again for help from Chris. This time Guidon joined in as well. Chris explained to me how my design wasn't going to work due to the shape of my kitchen, breakfast room, and pantry room. It made perfect sense, and he was right. (I had in mind a dark green flooring with black border all around the outside.) Both gentlemen then helped me pick out a real linoleum floor (not vinyl) that they thought would work out. It would look as if it was always in the home, very period correct. They sent me home with giant samples to try, to see which color was best. My husband and I made our selection, and the flooring was ordered. A sub-contractor came to install it and did a fantastic job. After it was complete, Guidon came to visit the job and inspect it. He brought along a big jug of special floor cleaner, and explained that we should ONLY use this, and reminded me that it was REAL linoleum. (No charge for the floor cleaner.)
My husband and I both are extremely happy with the job done by everyone, and the time both Chris and Guidon took in getting everything just right for us. We are going to add a few more vintage style roller shades soon and plan to do business with them. It looks like the store has closed though, and possibly moved....I hope that they are still around! They are the best. read more
