We recently had a lot of metal from old storm shutters that we needed to get rid of. Rather than just dump it, we decided to take it to a recycling center. By taking it to Bob's, we were able to get $100 for our haul, so it was definitely worth the trip there. Plus, they are recycling metal, which prevents things from ending up in a landfill. The process is pretty simple: you pull up in their driveway in front of the center and unload your items onto one of the many carts they have available outside. Different types of metal go on different carts. They then roll the cart onto a scale and weigh it. The cashier records the weights and calculates what it's worth. They will then give you a receipt and cash right away, and you're on your way. The whole process is very quick, and the only wait is if there is someone else dropping off items before you and the time it takes you to unload your items. One thing that could be a little easier is understanding what types of metal they accept and differentiating the type of metal, which have different prices. It's of course simple for most people to know the difference between copper and aluminum, but there are other distinctions like types of alloys, extruded, clean or unclean, etc. Some pictures or examples on the website and a clear description of what clean and unclean mean would be helpful. For most people bringing scrap metal, this is probably something they know, but for the casual visitor it would be helpful to know before going in. Im not one for writing bad reviews, but today was their last chance. This place rips you off....4 out of 5 times I've been short changed by the lady working the counter. Multiple times I've called and asked for a price on specific scrap and upon arriving the price changed. When attempting to talk to the manager, he gave tremendous attitude saying "you dont have to sell here!" and "I've been doing business for 50 yrs" BEFORE I could even ask my question. Worst customer service experience ever! Ps. My question, after having asked him 4 times if he was going to give me a chance to talk, was "why aren't you paying the same price as last week?" I had been bringing my scrap copper and brass to Bob for about 4 years now, maybe more. Bob has been paying me what I deem as close to fair price for my scrap, here and there coming a few pounds short, but hey who am I to judge right. Let Bob make his few extra dollars from unfair scales right? That Stuff I didn't mind all that much... However today; today was different than any of the other days. I had accumulated quite a bit of brass (around 150lbs) and copper 1 & 2, I've been so busy with no time to pay Bob a visit. I arrived at the establishment early morning, 8ish, gave Bob my license as we usually do and began unloading my rather heavy load of metals. It is the same type of brass, the same type of copper I always bring Bob, plumbing brass and copper. As the attendant weight in the brass I heard a female voice sternly ask him "clean or unclean?!!", "unclean" the attendant replied with an almost inaudible tone of voice. Out of the 150lbs of brass I brought to Bob his scales later registered on the receipt ticket 137, 20 plus of copper 1, only 8 were paid and same went for copper 2 which weight in at around 50 or so. As I looked at the receipt and the payout I couldn't figure out what was going on... I felt the pressure from other customers waiting in line, my employee was also waiting on me to get to a job. I kept saying to myself, something is not right, the math does not compute. Wasn't until later that I was out of there and all was said and done in my mind that I realized; I had been taken advantage of. National scrap brass prices are around $1.30 a pound as I write this review, 0.60 cents a pound I was paid for my 150 pounds of brass, that's less than half! Only because that woman whom I've never seen said it was "unclean it had some plastic on it". Well guess what Bob, from now on I will be taking my copper and brass somewhere else, because that's all it takes to loose a customer, that's all it takes for a once green tree to wither and die. I have been going to Bob's recycling with my dad since I was a little kid. The guys are tough and will help you with whatever you bring no matter how heavy(compressors, fan motors, copper pipe, anything aluminum etc). I've made between $50-$250 each time I have gone depending on current metal prices which are always posted on the window and the # of lbs I brought . They recently began requiring a fingerprint along with your license. Yesterday I took some metals I had from my old car to Bob's recycling. I should have been paid at least $30, but more than likely closer to $35; instead I was paid $18. I didn't notice till I got home because I was in a hurry and since I got there at 5:30pm, left about 5:50pm, and they close at 6pm; I was not able to try and resolve this issue with them until today. I was told by the person who answered the phone that I should have resolved this yesterday and that it's too late now. I took 8.29 lbs of copper and only paid for 5 lbs. I took 30.5 lbs of cast aluminum and only paid for 12 lbs. I took 9 lbs of irony aluminum and only paid for 7 lbs. I took 1.23 lbs of insulated copper and only paid for 1 lb. All the weight I provided were weighed at my uncle's hardware store on the stores digital scale, which is inspected and approved by the division of standards. I know that it's only $15 - $20 dollars, while others are being cheated out of hundreds or thousands(by all types of companies), but wrong is wrong. I don't believe this is a simple mistake becuase it was done for every type of metal brought. This is deliberate and who knows how many others they do this to who might not even realize it. I went to Bob's I the single worst experience, customer service was ok ,but they don't let you see your weight on the scale they bring out these carts to put my aluminum on and claim the carts weigh anywhere from 200 to 400 pounds weigh which they deduct from your weigh. I also ask if there was another place to recycle and they said no , but as I'm leaving there is a scarp yard right next door by the name of Florida State . I returned the following week an sold my material to Florida State, what a differences great customer service, scale display is visible they even let me weigh myself. Prices were well above Bob.
