This place is a joke. The prices for a smog check are decent with a coupon, but the service is horrible. I came here needing a smog. Walked in and wasn't acknowledged for a few minutes. Then a man walked over asked what I wanted. After I explained a smog; he said we are at lunch, so it will be 45 minutes to an hour. He said to fill out an application; he wrote the full price on the form for a smog regardless that I had a coupon and walked off. When I got finished with filling out the paperwork. Another man entered the front desk and said it would then be half an hour. I had to remind this guy to adjust the price according to my coupon. I said just call me when it was done. Two hours later, I had not received a call. I called them and no answer at all. I walked down there and the guy was just backing my car into their garage. It looked as if though they hadn't even started it. After about 10 minutes of waiting, someone finally approached the desk. I expressed, that was my car and asked if it was done. The guy said yes. I then asked if it passed smog as I'm paying. The guy replied, "it should." Then quickly reverted to, "yes it passed". Seriously are you fucking kidding me. Jerry said there was 1 car ahead of me, but they could get my car done same day. (I provided the oil filter and oil for my LR3.) Not only did they have it done in a couple of hours, they checked my tire pressure, checked and topped all fluids, checked belts and air filter, all good and all for $25. Best service ever! My service took 30 mins. They also top off fluids and check the air filter. They accept debit & credit cards. I saved $5.00 with the coupon total was $26. Staff was friendly but MIA at times when patrons walked into the office. There is free Wi-FI which can help with the wait. It's refreshing to know that Quality Tune Up Shops of San Leandro really is a quality establishment and that it's not just a name. Sure they look like an abandoned corner when they're closed, but that's just cause they don't waste time painting there shop to look pretty. As far as I'm concerned I couldn't care less what the place looks like, as long as they know there stuff. So what makes them so cool? Well, I've been here for a smog check about four times now and every time they've managed to get me in and out quickly and without any trouble. The guys working here are friendly and polite and while you may not have someone to talk to while they're working on the car, it's because they are out there doing there job. The bottom line is that Quality Tune up can get you out and on your way faster than a lot of other people, they smog for less than $30,( for most cars) and if you live in the area they are conveniently located. I love these guys! They're always so good to me :) There's almost always a coupon available for your standard oil change for $24.88, so make sure to check online before walking in. As long as you show them the coupon on your phone, they'll give you the discount! The turnaround has always been within an hour or so (hour and a half, tops). Cafe Sorriso is down the street as well as TapEx, so at least you have places to chill while you wait! They're always unfailingly polite to me when I've dropped off my car. I used to take my car to a place in Oakland Chinatown for a $30 oil change that my dad recommended. However, now that I know of Quality, I'm going to start coming here instead. The oil change averages about $32, but the money I save in gas, the convenience in location, and the fast turnaround (the place in Oakland keeps me waiting for AT LEAST 2 hours every time) more than makes up for it. Since I was 18 I've been taking my cars to Quality Tune-Up in San Leandro and I'm about to turn...30...*cough cough* What this place is NOT: An auto shop that will rebuild your engine or a place you take your $100k+ Mercedes SLK. Anyways, Bob and his team are great. It's a shop full of honest, straight forward, and very knowledgeable mechanics that cater to everyday people. I've come here for smogs and issues when my cars haven't started/made weird noises. Came in 8 months ago for a smog check on the recommendation of Precision Auto Repair. Passed smog & had a fine experience. Came in yesterday to schedule both an oil change & another smog for today. It was very dead & spoke to Bob about needing to schedule a smog appointment in the afternoon for today(time was of the essence to make it to the DMV so I could drive my car to SoCal on Sunday). He seemed very blase & said it wouldn't be a problem & to just come in, even after I tried to insist on scheduling an appointment. This morning I got the oil change somewhere else because I was given a free oil change coupon(can't beat FREE!!). Then I needed to drive my car all day to help clean the fuel system because it had sat 8 months since the last smog, due to an insurance & DMV error. Finally came in today around 3:30-40 to get the 20 minute smog test done. I sat around for an hour before asking Bob for the keys back because it was now too late for the test & making it to the DMV. I LOVE this Quality Tune Up location. Bob (I think he is the owner) is the best. I have been going to this location since I was a kid with my mom and dad. My dad is a very smart car guy and whenever one of our old cars needed some fixing that he didn't feel like doing, he sent it over to Bob at Quality. My dad knew that he could always trust them. Ever since I got my car at the age of 16 I have taken my car to Quality in San Leandro. I moved to SF and even though there is a QTU in the city, I still go to the San Leandro location. Bob seems to only employ hard working, smart people and it shows. I watch them work and they take their jobs seriously. Even though I am a girl that drives an old car, no one at Quality has ever tried to sell me something I didn't need. I have only been to 2 other oil/tune-up places in my life, and both times they tried to list a wide variety of things that were supposedly wrong with my car and needed to be fixed. I told those places to leave my car alone and took my car to my dad. My dad verified that my car was fine and I didn't need the things those crooks were trying to sell me. Quality Tune Up in San Leandro is appropriately named. They do quality work for a price that won't make you consider just getting a new car. I went here on Saturday 10/22 to get my brake pads replaced. I ended up getting the car back in worse condition. When I drove my car home, my car felt like it was dragging on the street (like the brake was on), but I was using and operating my car as I normally would on a regular day. Not only that, my car smelled like burning plastic. I had to take my car to a different mechanic, who then told me that the brake pads were installed wrong. No one cared at Bob's to check that my car was running smoothly after the work was done? I would think that's what a mechanic would do? Please don't go here. I used to be a regular for oil changes, but that's about all I would go to this place for. If you need real work done on your car please think about going somewhere else. I had to go back and ask for the original parts for my brakes from Bob because the parts for my car were discontinued, and Jerry was only able to give me 1 of the brake parts back. The best auto repair/maintenance shop I've know. Price for a regular oil change is under $30 and they fill your air and all fluids, check car for problems. Smog checks are under $50. Repairs if you bring your own parts was $90 an hour, very reasonable price. Sometimes when you have small car problems they'll fix it on the spot for free or a small fee. For example: (fan belt made screeching noise, they took a look at it, didn't need replacing, just tightening, $20). Definitely the best place to come for a small job. Only bad thing about this place would be the wait time because they're always very busy, even though they've expanded from their old location. Call ahead and see if they're busy! read more

Excellent: was in and out today in less than 30 minutes for my smog check, and it was basically paperless with their DMV electronic communication. $53.20 or whatever, including tax, etc. Makes this as painless as it could be. I've used Quality Tune-Up for years. The service is cordial. I had a mix-up of sorts at the previous oil change regarding my request for tire rotation. The shop was a bit busy, and when I was checking out, nobody was certain if my tires had been actually rotated or not. This time I explained to Bob what happened last time and asked him to assess the wear on my tires, and he recommended rotating ~ which he comped me. I'm really hesitant to write this review because I want to keep this place all to myself. I failed my smog test and my regular mechanic is too booked for me these days. He's also ridiculously expensive. Quality took me in the day of and replaced my failed part without a problem...and for a much lower price. They provide really inexpensive smog checks and also a free retest. If your vehicle fails they have the means to fix it. Consider me a lifetime customer. read more

They've increased their prices a bit but the quality, speed and proper service are what bring me and I'm sure many others back. I was in the area and needed an oil change so I searched on yelp and found this place. Called to inquire about pricing and after being told it would run around $35 we thought we would try it out. Parking lot is tiny!!! We parked in the handicap spot while we check in with them. Following the check in process, we moved it towards their driveway. I gave them four stars not for the service because that was great and so was the pricing. But because we were quoted 40 minutes and it actually took 75 minutes. Use to use this location from everything to simple repairs to oil changes and smog tests. Now have newer vehicles so haven't had to use as much. Took vehicle there months ago to get a quick oil change and they stripped the bolt resulting in an oil leak. Didn't want to fix but they did. Now its time for a new oil change and we took back to dealer and they cannot get it to quit leaking. It is going to be an expensive repair. Will NEVER go back to Quality Tune-Up after this experience. They should have offered to make all the necessary repairs at that time and not taken the short cut temporary fix they did. $53.20!!! That's right! $53.20 for a smog check and that includes the certificate and them electronically submitting it to the DMV for you! We went in there to smog the hunny's big boy truck and thought that there was no way it was going to pass the emissions test. I called and inquired what their fees were and asked about our options if the truck failed to pass. Not only do they test your vehicle for $53.20 (including the certificate) but will retest your vehicle for free (once you have the necessary adjustments made) if you should fail the first time. Most test stations charge you for the certificate and then charge you another fee to transmit it electronically. What a racket! Thank you Quality Tune Up for not nickle and diming me! We waited approximately twenty minutes before they could check our vehicle (we didn't make an appointment) and then about fifteen minutes for them to run the actual test(s). Bob was professional and courteous. He took the time to go over our emissions report, explaining the values and where the hunny's big boy truck fell within the range of those values. Great service. I had originally taken my car to another nearby smog station who failed my inspection. I then took my car to Quality for the repair and they reviewed the failing report, checked to diagnose the problem and could not find any issues with the check engine light as previously described at the other shop as being the cause of the test failure. Quality did a retest and my car passed and the check engine light was working fine. I highly recommend Quality because they are honest and really know their stuff.
